  1. It could be hormonal, but when my husband did this he was tested for and diagnosed with sleep apnea. Ask your husband if you snore badly or periodically stop breathing.
  2. I would love to see us "back to one salary families." I am currently in the work force but plan to come home this summer. We worry about the reduction in income but what we gain as a family is more than worth it.
  3. Could it be the antibiotic that is making him ill? I was once on a medication that caused similar symptoms. I thought my illness was worsening when in fact I was allergic to the medicine. I also needed help getting up and moving. He do think he needs to be seen.
  4. $130/month. Thirty-minute sessions/week which includes traditional and Suzuiki combined.
  5. Ok. I'm leaving the boards now. Clearly I didn't read your entire question.
  6. Are you asking because you're interested in bean dishes or are you asking to see what the phrase "rice and beans" mean to different people? Rice and beans has always meant red beans and rice for me. Although we do enjoy lima beans or black eyed peas over rice too. I'm not sure why in my head it doesn't stand for any of these.
  7. I also meant to say that your homeschooling is probably the BEST thing for her right now. She will learn coping mechanisms as she matures but the stress of being at school is NOT worth the anxiety this little one would have to suffer. It's one of the greatest supports she could get, imo.
  8. I feel her pain. The unpredictability of a new teacher (especially a strict one) can be quite unnerving. And I always wanted to melt into a wall and become invisible in social situations so please don't point me out to the crowd! Hmm....maybe I need to research SAD.
  9. Just wanted to say that I WAS your daughter as a child. It was so bad that I remember crying every time my father spoke to me, but he was the chief disciplinarian of the house so I think I was afraid that he was going to fuss at me. I vividly remember hiding behind my mother whenever we were with anyone who was not an immediate family member. And that happened a lot because she was (is) a VERY social person who frequently had us in unfamiliar situations. As I grew older I learned how to make it through the day without breaking down and crying and such, but I carried then and still carry a lot of internal anxiety. I now know that I suffer from sensory processing disorder. Venturing out into the world can be quite scary when you can’t easily and quickly make sense of the smells, sights, sounds and general hustle and bustle of the world. Maybe your daughter’s dance teacher is a hugger. That would have driven me batty. Or maybe there are just too many kids in the class, each bouncing and running and jumping in a multitude of directions, preventing your daughter from relaxing even for a second. And for what it’s worth, I absolutely hated dancing. My mother was an accomplished dancer and she so wanted me to follow in her footsteps, but the stress of lessons proved far too much for me and she allowed me to quit after only one year (can you feel the guilt?). Hugs to you and your daughter. It will get better. She will begin to develop some sort of coping skills even without therapy, but I agree that therapy would be of great benefit.
  10. My DD9 is an incessant talker. She even voices her thoughts. She's a good listener too though, so I feel I have to model that back. Very tiring at times.
  11. My suggestion would be to offer her solids before bfing but continue bfing. Not all children grow at the same rate. My dd (9 yr in 2 weeks) was teeny tiny like your daughter. She was 14 lbs at 6 mo., barely 16 lbs at one yr, and just over 17 lbs at 24 mo. The dr was concerned and didn't want to miss any illnesses/genetic diseases so we did run a battery of tests but she was/is perfectly healthy. Dr. never suggested I wean her. Dd has always made healthy food choices but she just doesn't eat a lot. At nearly 9 yrs old she is now 49 lbs and 49 in. Perfectly fine. Offer her healthy food regularly but let her make the decision on how much to eat. She'll be fine.
  12. My dd has always been super tiny, although I feel like she's starting to catch up with the pack, albeit the bottom end. I don't think she was even on the growth chart at 5 yrs old but she'll be 9 in two weeks and weighs 49 lbs and is 49 inches - size 12 1/2 shoe. Now when I look at her with friends I don't see the contrast nearly as much.
  13. are homeschooling their two young ones, Jaden and Willow. I believe they have from the start, even before the two children began acting.
  14. My mother-in-law makes THE best limas. 1 bag of dried beans soaked 3 stalks of celery cut into large chunks 2 large white onions cut into large chunks 3-4 slices of bacon seasoning to taste Put all in a pot and just cover with water. Simmer until beans are cooked, veggies are soft and liquid is juicy (if you know what I mean), adding water while cooking if necessary. Dd and I make a special trip to Grandmas when she's cooking limas. Yum!
  15. I got a no burger, burger once also. I asked for a plain cheese burger, nothing on it. That's exactly what I got. A piece of cheese on a bun.
  16. I'm hoping someone, maybe a teacher, will know if schools are given the ability to manipulate scores after the test has been graded.
  17. Thanks for your reply. CSI stands for Congnitive Skills Index. The test is the Terra Nova InView test. It's designed to measure school success (what is that?) and reasoning skills. The test company will tell you it is not really an IQ test but can measure cognitive ability. Her non verbal scores were in the upper 70s lower 80s percentiles. Above average but not in the gifted range. Her verbal scores were upper 90s. We've already decided to have her privately tested.
  18. I cross posted this on the general thread. I am a perpetual lurker. So much so that I READ the entire thread for lurkers but did not post. lol! Currently we afterschool but in our hearts my daughter and I would love to homeschool. We talk about it constantly but the truth is, my son just left for college and my family needs my salary. Here is the background. My daughter 8 3/4 and just started 3rd grade. She is very advanced in the verbal areas. Always has been. The district we are in has informal enrichment available through 2nd grade (teacher rec and achievement test scores) and two formal programs (reading and math) which begin in 3rd grade (teacher rec, test scores and cognitive skill index scores (CSI). Fourth through 8th grade is a gifted program with more stringent entrance requirements. The district uses the Terra Nova test. C spent kindergarten in a reading group of one because there were no other children in a school of nearly 300 kindergarteners at her level. In first grade they grouped her with two other girls but she did receive enrichment. Second grade was more of the same. Now in 3rd grade we inquired about the reading enrichment program (we know she didn't qualify for math) only to be told she did not make the cut. When we asked why we were told her CSI was not high enough. What??? Here are the requirements for the program: reading percentile 95 or above (must meet this) CSI 120 or above (must meet this) AND two of the tree below: reading level above 30 writing sample teacher recommendation Ok. So when we questioned where she fell short they responded that she met all of the above except CSI score, where she scored a 114. I knew right then they were lying. I wondered when we got her score report why they did not include her CSI since I always got that score for my son, but I didn't question it because I work with stats in my job and knew that even though her non verbal score was considerably below her verbal score, she still surpassed the 120 requirement on her total score and far surpassed it with her verbal score. In other words, I had already figured out her score for myself. We respectfully questioned the validity of the score and asked them to resend her report with the score included on it. I explained that I work with stats and know that C's score surpassed their requirement and far surpassed it verbally. The enrichment teacher responded that she was given strict guidelines for entrance into this program and if we have a problem with that we should contact the principal. She never addressed the discrepancy. That was Wednesday and the principal has yet to respond. Our entire exchange has been via e-mail. I know that all of her previous teachers recommended her for the program because they have told me. Last May, the enrichment teacher "hinted" at being excited having her again for 3rd grade (formal announcements went out last week) and introduced us to the gifted teacher for 4 through 8 grades when we ran into them at a play C was in. Is it possible for the school to alter her CSI for the score report? I know that test fraud occurs, but the way I understand it I think it's usually changing answer sheets before the tests get scored. My worry is that they have a way to print the score of their choosing on her report. Wanna make it 110? How about 105? kwim? Bottom line is if they send her score report with any score other than the one I believe it should be based on a standard bell curve with a mean of 100 and a SD of 16, we will obtain a lawyer. I think the lack of response from the school is them working frantically behind the scenes to do damage control at this point, but I want to rest assured that they do not have some deceptive way of changing that score. Why would anybody misrepresent a child's score to her parents? What is the legality of that? We live in a high income town with lots of professionals. I guess our family does not fit the profile of the other families with kids in this program. Finally, please pray that we can find a way to bring this child home. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

  20. I get grease stains on occasion also. I'm not sure what they're from but if I rub Ivory soap and water into the stain it pulls the "grease" right out. I can then rewash the item and it's good as new.
