That is funny. I can see how you might think it was our book choices. They have been the standard pre-school books; Imogene's Antlers, Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus, My Uncle Bigfoot, Sylvester and the Magic Pebble and couple more I can't remember.

There really is nothing more to the story.
Thanks Bethany!

I'm oversensitive!
Really, there were no "good" spots to be taken. Is Friday better than Monday?

Julie, you are most likely right. Although, now I feel terrible.

Like I said, it doesn't make much sense. Sign-ups have been available since the beginning of January. And, it isn't as though I signed us up for all the slots right when it came out. I've just done it a week ahead of time. There were no rules about it. Maybe they are only doing it through the month of February? I really don't even know.

We were told not to sign up for any more reading at dd's preschool today! So far, my husband and I have each read to them 2x, ds9 1x, and ds7 1x. I already have ds9 signed up again because he had so much fun doing it and my mother is going to do it as well. I wasn't even going to have the boys do it at all, but one of the teachers mentioned it would be fun!!! I just don't get it.
The teacher mentioned that other families can't plan ahead so well and need last minute opportunities. That just doesn't seem right. I really need to shake my negative feelings about this. Up until this morning I have been really delighted with her preschool!

We do both as well. They are very different. ETC is mostly just a reinforcer of words/spelling/reading comprehension. Phonics Pathways teaches reading words with no written reinforcement (you could add this). Phonics Pathways is much more essential.

Well, I had been doing Evan-Moor mapping books with my son and realized in the grade 4 book they expect you know the states. So, we stopped doing the mapping book and I started doing the states and capitals. I use a U.S. geography book and I have him learn by regions, read the 2 page spread on each state, then trace each state on tracing paper along with the capitals and work on memorizing each region. Not quite sure we will finish in a year. We are taking it slow. I really like SOTW sequence and the extra reading list from the TWTM are very thorough in U.S. history. Plus, we take a lot of rabbit trails from the reading list of the activity guide.

We use the library like crazy and I should be greatful but, I am so, so upset! We have to pay for 2 lost books!!! I have searched my house high and low!
Do you think I should make my 9 yr. old pay for them or chalk it up to first time offense?

FLL 3 will assume that your child knows or has memorized noun, pronoun, adjective, action verb, linking verb, helping verbs, prepositions, article, conjunction, interjection, question, statement, exclamation, contraction, direct quotation, indented paragraph. Or, at least the child has had them before and can easily pick them up.
FLL 3 also begins diagramming sentences.
If your child picks things up quickly it should not be a problem, but you may need to slow down in order for him to work on memorizing some of the list. There is also poem memorization in FLL 1, 2, and 3.

I have drooled over Bravewriter. It is an in depth look at one single book over something like a months time. I have also been eyeing Memoria Press' literature guides. One could easily use the questions from the guides and choose copywork from the text.
That's about as far as any suggestions I have. I hope others reply. Good luck!

We just took a few weeks off of WWE 3. We are 3/4 of the way through. I am making sure he reads the material first and has a better grasp and some familiarity of the story. I have not done that up until now. Hoping that will help him. This will slow us down considerably, which is fine. I am in no rush to begin WWE 4. And, I really don't want to create my own stuff for him. But, I would be sure to use books that he is very familiar with.

We listened to an original Sherlock Holmes and one story scared the pants off my boys - who do not scare easily! We had to stop listening. I would get the kids version until they are older.

The point of copy work is that the student see and re-write work from great literature. It seems to me, whether it is being handwritten or typed should not make a difference. It is also pointing out grammar as well. WWE and WWS are great tools to becoming a writer. I think typing would be just a good.

It is just plain old hard :group hug:.
I also have an oldest ds that is hard to keep on track. It has gotten a little bit better - mostly because he is getting older and able to complete more. But, some days are still just a mess. Four years homeschooling for me and I don't see an easier road in sight. I am constantly tweaking our schedule.
The day to day can be a constant struggle, but it is the years ahead and the progress I see over the long stretch that keep me going.

I've had one mammogram and it was awful. Sorry you've had a couple and need another. It is scary to wait and see. :grouphug:

My ds 9 fidgets, zones out, draws pictures on his sheet and loves to annoy his siblings. And if he happens to have a rare golden day, then ds 7 takes it over! I raise my voice quite a bit and I have high expectations as to what we will accomplish in a day.
-
My ds 9 is timed for 2 reading sessions that total 80 minutes. He might actually double that with his own reading most days.

We are all just very selfish beings. Most have a hard time stepping into others shoes. Just let the comment role right on by.

My dh read them all when he was a kid. I had never heard of it. My ds is way into it. We are looking forward to seeing as soon as we can. Maybe Christmas day.

Looks so good! Thanks for the link and the inspiration!

and have any success? My ds9 has some executive function issues and a psych suggested this program.
He is doing WWE 3 and I'm just not sure if it is too much to add to this program. But, I do sense he needs a more concrete and systematic approach to writing.
Any thought? Thanks.

No more reading at dd's preschool for our family

I see all the points of view much better now.
And, let me just re-state that I was not going to let the kids read, but one of the teachers suggested it! They each read very well and very appropriate books for each of them. Very simple books with great visuals.
This is the second month that it has been available for Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. A friend who also sends her daughter there is assuming it is continuing into next month.
