  1. Thank you! Do you know where the 'page/day to finish in a year' chart is? Is it on her website or in the Light Blue Series?
  2. I know that CLE does not need a supplement.......but I just love the look of MM! I would want to use the Light Blue Series and just work my way through it. Would you do all of a lesson in CLE and then maybe 2 pages in MM? Would you skip a few problems in CLE? How would you or how do you do it? Thank you!!
  3. :bigear: Just marking this page so that I can find it later!
  4. I am trying to decide on a phonics program for my ds and dd. I used Abeka with my oldest dd, and I am trying to decide whether to use that or something different. I have been trying to decide between Abeka, PP, or OPGTR, but have become very interested in Webster's Speller after reading a lot of your posts. I don't totally understand it. Are your phonics lessons the same as Webster's Speller? Thank you! :001_smile:
  5. :bigear: Just marking this thread so I can find it later. I love the videos by Maria Miller on teaching multiplication!
  6. I will have to check it out! This sounds very interesting!! Especially since you had such great success! Thanks for all your suggestions! Anyone else?
  7. My dd8 is not getting her math facts! She still is not getting her addition and subtraction facts. We have started this year with multiplication facts (0, 1, 2, 5, and 10's). She is struggling with all it! Any suggestions? I've heard that BJU flashcards are triangles that show the fact families. Would that be helpful? We use the flashmaster everyday and CLE flashcards. We have played math war a few times. Nothing seems to be working! Feeling frustrated! I can't tell you how many times I have asked her what 7+5 is and she still has to count in her head.
  8. That sounds interesting! So far, Flashmaster is not working for us.
  9. Your older one could probably handle PLATO Science. Look at it through Homeschool Buyer's Co-op. I just purchased 2 courses for my 7th grader and she *loves* it. She is not one to do work without me nagging her, and she actually asks to do science first thing. That looks very interesting! Can it be used for a 3rd grader?
  10. I love SOTW and was wondering if it would work well with Classical Conversations Cycle 3? I don't need things to line up, I just want to study the same time era? If not, any good suggestions that would be easy to implement?
  11. We just started doing it this way, and it's working great!
  12. Thanks for your advice! I am still using Abeka b/c that is what we started with when we first started homeschooling (this is my 3rd year). I just haven't totally let it go yet. :-) We just started using FLL last year. I guess I could let go of the ARFH, huh? Didn't even think of that. I could make her do her copywork in cursive. That's a great idea! Very good to know that WWE is more age-appropriate. I'm definitely not looking for writing lessons that are too advanced for her age level. I would have to say that writing is my weakest area, so I would need something easy to teach and with good explanations. Would you say that would be WWE? I think R&S is appealing b/c I've heard it is strong in grammar and writing. If I didn't do WWE, that would be one more thing that is not on our list of things to do, KWIM? I just feel like there is so much to get through in a day. :-) Thanks, girls for your advice!
  13. I have ordered R&S 3 to take a look at it. I'm not sure if I will do it, but I may switch from FFL 3 to R&S. I am looking at something that might be a little more independent. For LA right now I am using FLL 3, WWE, AAS, ARFH, Wordly Wise, and an Abeka Language worksheet (1/2 of problems) a day. That's a lot! I was thinking that if I switched from FLL to R&S I could ditch WWE and Abeka. Do I need WWE if I switch to R&S? I wasn't looking to simplify a little bit. Thank you:001_smile:
  14. :bigear: I was also wondering the same thing.
  15. Thank you! I can see how that would be true!
  16. Thanks, Boscopup! DD8 does write well on her own. I have looked at both Rod and Staff and CLE. It's good to know that Rod and Staff could be done somewhat independently. Thanks, Chris in VA! I appreciate your advice!
  17. I have been feeling overwhelmed lately! We just moved in December and I have 4 children. I am only homeschooling our 8dd. Ds5 and dd4 go to preschool and I have a 13-month old at home. Everything that I do is so teacher-intensive! I'm really not willing to give up anything except maybe FLL. I was thinking of making a switch to something a little less teacher-intensive. We do everything in my signature and an Abeka Language 3 worksheet (only 1/2 the problems). It would be nice to teach my dd while my 13-month old is sleeping and leave the independent stuff for when dd is awake. With FLL I am sitting with her the whole time. My thoughts are maybe to switch to CLE LA, but continue with AAS, WWE, and ARFH. We really like CLE Math. I could switch to Abeka LA. Right now we are only doing the worksheets, but I could get the TM and doing the teaching and assign work for her while dd is awake. I've heard great things about R&S, but wasn't sure how teacher-intensive it was. What do you think? What would you do? I'm just having trouble getting it all done. And I am homeschooling one! I will have 2 next year. I have been so overwhelmed lately that I have even thought about quitting! A month or 2 ago I thought I was in this for the long haul. How can I simplify?
  18. Thanks so much for all of your wonderful suggestions!! We pulled out our base 10 blocks and I think she is understanding much better.
  19. How do you guys teach 203-127? My daughter is having trouble understanding borrowing. CLE teaches to make the 3 a 13 and then cross out the 20 and make it a 19. I've never seen it taught that way. Any good resources for teaching subtraction?
