  1. I know, right? I wish a few of them would :glare: I see my introversion mostly helping me homeschool. It makes it easy for me to stay home and teach/learn when I'm not freaking out that I haven't talked to anyone (besides kids) all day. I LOVE being home and having quiet time :) I don't mind getting out, but typically prefer to around people rather than with a group. I prefer things like museums, libraries, movies, and parks where people don't depend on me to interact with them or else they are bored. I do have the same issues as the original poster, I tend to enjoy the research more than the implementation and my kids are very social and tend to freak out if we don't see friends very regularly.
  2. That looks good. Do you recommend using a stylus with it (I would guess)? I'm wondering if I should invest in a stylus for these handwriting apps, or if I should let them use their fingers. I was thinking an app would be like using an actual pen or pencil. Thoughts?
  3. I was pretty young in the 80's, but I still managed to sneak and watch a bunch of MTV at my grandmother's house. I remember liking Fine Young Cannibals (She Drives Me Crazy) and INXS (Wild Wild West). Culture Club (Karma Chameleon and Do You Really Want To Hurt Me.) I also loved Styx (Show Me the Way), but that was 1990. I remember watching a lot of Guns N Roses and Bon Jovi. I've got all that on my iPod. Oh, and George Michael. I thought he was so risque! Was the movie good? I want to see it, but my husband thinks it looks stupid. He only likes a movie if it's action. Maybe I'll go on my own.
  4. Those are excellent ideas. We have some old computer pieces, an old phone, and one of his old bikes. I think we have a broken Vcr, as well.
  5. I read an article that encouraged parents to allow their children to take things apart. It said that this was a good way for them to puzzle things out, even if they couldn't put it back together in working order. I know my youngest would love to do this sort of thing, and might even get most of it back together, but I'm at a loss for what items to look for to offer him. Also, what tools would a child use for this (supervised, of course)? This isn't my area of expertise, I'm not mechanically minded in the least, but he most certainly is. Every time a repairman or trademan of any kind comes to the house he is glued to them. He wants to watch them and ask what they are doing, what their tools do, and such.
  6. I only have three, and I could relate. I tried to imagine them each cloned. I wanted to cry immediately. I have no advice to offer, only a weary nod of my head. I know that I speak the same language they do, I know that they hear me because they look me in the eye and nod or reply when I've said these things, but still they continue to do things over and over. And over. Sigh.
  7. I know what word-for-word means, but I'm having a hard time coming up with an example of meaning-for-meaning. Are you saying that your paraphrase, and leave out little things like "um" and "uh"? Can you clarify that? I find what you do interesting. I couldn't really do it right now because I'm still trying to get the kids to be more independent workers, but possibly (hopefully?) in the near future they might be better at it ;)
  8. He is adorable! I didn't know they were so talented, either. The thread title made me laugh, then when I read the part about his "8 unique noises", I about wet myself. My mom and I call my 13 year old son The Walrus, or Walrus for short, and he makes weird noises with his mouth all the time. I can't wait to show him the video. My younger kids watched it twice in a row :)
  9. Oh, that is so cute!! I'm going to "steal" that idea for my own kids. Love it!
  10. Yes, but not in a while. You reminded me of something else to put on our summer fun list!
  11. Being Human (both versions) Dr Who Once Upon A Time Grimm Big Bang Theory Two and a Half Men (but more with Charlie than Ashton) NCIS How I Met Your Mother (the odd episode, some of it I find too dopey) House
  12. My son is a beginning kindergarten level, very kinesthetic, and I am very much NOT kinesthetic. I have a hard time coming up with ideas for this type of learner and I'm too new to homeschooling to know which curriculum would be of benefit here. He is not yet reading, if that factors in.
