  2. Hi all, I am looking for advice and suggestions for a math program or activities for my 6 yr old who has the develpomental age of a PreK-K student. I DO NOT want anything like Saxon I need something simple and fun that can be just added in easily here and there. Thanks all. Teresa
  3. Have you looked into SSI for yr child that has been a life saver here! Teresa:)
  4. Great to hear! I also agree meds can work for some people they work here as well. Teresa
  5. :iagree: This is what HS is about and it's so easy to get caught up in the rt and wrong way to do it. I think finding his interests and going with them is a great idea. Don't beat yourself up (like you've made this BIG mistake) look at as it's just time for a change I mean we try something it doesn't work we try something else and something else then it just starts to click.;) That's what I do Teresa
  6. I am really interested in MOH and Christian Liberty Press Science. I have looked at MOH and it really looks adaptable for younger kids. The science is pretty cheap as well. Of course this is all good only if your looking at a christian view. :) Teresa
  7. Hi all, I need help finding a curriculum that teaches creation science for my 6 yr old ds. He is very into weather dinos volcanos animals reptiles etc. A reg across the curriculum like the ones in my pre-k - 2 nd books don't cut it for him he needs facts and picture books that I can read and pc videos dvd cd's. My hope is to find something that will get his interest and then maybe just maybe he will color or cut and paste something to do with the topic. Any ideas or help would be great thank you Teresa
  8. Glad to hear it just stick it out because it seems to always get worse before it gets better.;) Teresa
  9. Thank you so much. I am going to give it a try Teresa
  10. OK, Thank you again I am going to order I will check out the return policy. These programs don't sound to difficult for me to teach. The way I am understanding is the TE lays it all out for you I need and like that. Math as been awful here to the ones that should of worked have not but I have only tried a few. Thank you again for all yr time and help you may hear from again in the fall if you don't mind Oh ya what was yr thought on adding some games or cut n paste phonics books for some variety? I don't want to confuse her but she has been working on cutting n pasting in OT so I thought I could give her extra practice and do some academics with it. Do these programs have suggestion for games and such, I would want to make sure whatever we were doing game or otherwise was the same concept she would be learning in the other programs so as not to confuse her. Have you yourself had any luck with games? Teresa
  11. Ottakee, Thank you once again you have been such a BIG HELP with this. HW for my dd is very difficult and so slow do you think doing the Apples and Pears orally or using letter tiles some of the time would still be as beneficial as writing? Also as far as DB is it safe to start DBa if she can read some even if most of it is memorized? Are all these programs broke up into lessons or do you just do as much for yr time lot? I am going to order but have not decided if I want to just order one book 1st or do the pkg deals for the programs. I also wanted to know if it confuses the kids if you had supplements such as games or cut n paste phonics books things like that. I was just wondering for a little variety sometimes. I was also going to ask what you use or have used for math. I know you responded to that thread but I can't find it. I am really thinking of trying MCP math I just need to decide on the rt level to start at. Teresa
  12. Ottakee, If you don't mind then I would like to run by you my plan:001_huh: I will get the ISeeSam books (1st 3 sets) for reading (not sure if it will work for comprehension) Also do either of these programs help kids who only memorize words instead of read them? I really want dd to be able to sound out unfamiliar words instead of only reading the ones she has memorized. I will also get DBa for phonics and Apples and Pears for spelling.:) (when should a person start to combine all 3 of these things together for a school day? I assume these should be taught and worked on daily. Are the ISeeSam books just for reading practice after you know the sounds or do they teach reading? Thanks Teresa
  13. This was written for a boy with Autism so I don't know if it would be of any use but I love it and would like to share it! MY LITTLE MAN My little man cant really throw a ball My little man has a hard time catching one too My little man can’t tie his shoes My little man can have a big melt down My little man cant hop on one foot. My little man may seem a bit weird to other children My little man has a hard time with friends BUT My little man can skip My little man can run like the wind My little man can light up a room with just one smile or giggle My little man can hug and kiss me My little man says he loves me My little man has more love in him then most My little man HAS fealings too <FONT size=3><FONT face="Times New Roman">
  14. Hi, I always post on the special needs forum! Sure people are getting sick of hearing from me (lol):tongue_smilie: MY ONLY thought was this Go with your 1ST gut feeling, the feeling before you started second guessing yourself or others put their 2 cents in. If your God given intuition was something doesn't seem right here and it is a feeling or thought you just can't shake. Then there IS something to check out. I would personally go to a private Nero psychology exam. They won't be swayed one way or the other as far as PS goes. They will give you the facts and ideas t help. If there is nothing going on GREAT! If there is they can help you build a plan of action. This is all my personal experience and opinion.:D Teresa
  15. I also have been asking about scaredy cat for my dd have not heard to much good or bad really. I have been directed to other programs though. Dancing Bears, ISeeSam books. I posted in sp needs look over those posts maybe they will help you.
  16. Ottakee Is the DB a full teaching reading program? I noticed you said it was good for drills. Are ISeeSam books just little books to read not a way of teaching reading. Sorry for the dumb questions but I have looked at the site and just haven't figures it all out. Am I just to have dd read the 1st 2 set of ISeeSam books then start DBa? I am very interested in the program I just want to understand how to implement it. I have some veteran HS's that say 10-15 min a day will not work and my dd will never get anywhere in a yr. Her dc of different sp needs FAS then my dd. She feels we should do phonincs Scaredy cat vowels then more right away to words level if it's not learned then the next yr do saxon phonics intervention and sooner or later they will get it. Just keep them moving. I just feel that something "different" should be tried. Ok done whinning and ranting.
  17. I posted on both forums to get alot of different views.
  18. Scaredy Cat Phonics Reading System vs Dancing Bears I need anyone who has used or heard of these programs to give me ALL opinions what you liked disliked how teacher intensive was it complete in instruction things like that.

  20. I have 4 boys 1 girl my girl is just as much a wiggle worm. She struggles with academics as much if not more then ds 10. I look at it more in a OT stand point maybe it's not just but that is where I started understanding it. I give lots of wiggle time before that can be in the form of play heavy work (farm work is excellent) it seems to get their minds and body organized for work. I asssume it does alot of the samethings brain does. I give scheduled breaks sometimes more. I have learned the hard way that letting them watch tv at that time is BAD NEWS! duh I should of known better but you live and learn. Also for now anyway I have only been working on handwriting at hw time. I have found for my kids that they work so hard at the hw in the other subjects that they don't learn it. Lots of oral discussion I can then write down their ideas then at hw time there can be copywork. I totally think though there is no set way a boy will be compared to a girl all kids boy or girl are different some good hw some not and so on.
  21. You guys I am for sure going to try it! I just need to figure out what level to start with. Are there placement tests or anything like that? As for Miquon I just couldn't get my head wrapped around it but that is just me. I was unable to get it therefor I couldn't teach it very well. I have the teacher manual and a few or more workbooks just sitting here because once again something didn't work. Ahh the joy of homeschooling:tongue_smilie:
  22. Hi all, This is my 1st yr of what I 'm gonna call real home school. I have been floundering for about 3 yrs trying to find my niche. I was always unprepared on the fall and stumbled through the rest of the yr. I have felt completely defeated by the end of last yr! It really sunk in with my DD LD's and I guess I had to grieve and let go of my "perfect" plans for her for now.:crying: I also realized why I have had so much trouble with teaching. I know this is not going to be easy but I am going to go at slow and steady. RELAX just alittle and kinda go with the flow if something isn't working I will try something else. I am now ready to take this crazy scary fun journey head on! :boxing_smiley: ;) For the 1st time I am almost prepared for the school yr. I need all your advice on a simple easy home school planner. I 've looked into the computer programs at this point in my journey that looks way to complicated. I really do want more though then a simple note book I just write in. I like the idea of no dates just days at least for now. I like to check things off and I am alot like you all I hate to have to change everything around when the unexpected come up. I was wondering if there was a simple PC or hs planner out there. Thanks for listening I really appreciate this groupI wish I would of found it sooner.:D
  23. I am not sure what level to start my DD she still finger counts and can't rattle of math facts. She can do single digit addition with fingers most the time. Very difficult time with double digit addition. No concept as of yet for place value. She can identify money but seem to struggle with putting it all together. I asked her for .35 and asked her to give it to me with the least amount of coins. There were pennies nickles dimes and quarters. I think she gave me some dimes nickles and pennies and she had to count each indiv amount out on her fingers sometimes toes. I have tries to find some more info on MCP see if there was a placement test or something haven't found anything yet. Teresa
  24. Thank you all so much for opinions. Can this be a stand alone program or is it just a supplement? We have tried Miquon Math didn't go so great. Are the concepts introduced one after another another like Saxon? If they are is easy to slow it down? As for munipultives does it give suggestions for their use. I am glad to hear it's laid out for me I need that math is not my strong suit! I thought I read that there are remedial activities is that right. Thank you again everyone!
