  1. Sam's member here. I like the quality of their branded items. You cannot use manufacturers coupons there.

Shopped at BJs once on a friend's card and was not impressed. They didn't have much of what I wanted, and what they did have cost more. A couple of store brand items I bought there I did not care for.

  2. Reading through the thread on why some marriages stay together despite not liking or loving each other has me wondering if my marriage is so unusual. I've been married 21 years and we've had two arguments. Honestly. He's a terrific guy. I like him as a person and I love him tremendously. And I like his family too!

I was previously married. My second marriage is absolutely nothing like the first.

    Then you are lucky.

  3. The division of labor in our house is such that person A almost always unloads the dishwasher and does dinner dishes, as well as about half the cooking and most of the yard work, while person B does laundry, all the rest of the housework and shopping.

  4. Our income is too high for chip too.

In NH they have a CHIP Medicaid, but also a sliding fee scale for decent insurance for those children who don't qualify for the Medicaid.  You'd have to make a boatload of money to not qualify for their sliding scale insurance rates.  I suppose if you make a boatload of money you can afford the $600 per month for other insurance, or just pay the bills out of your pocket.

  5. But that's how language works. It is passed orally. It's why people are unlikely to say "Gee Willikers, Mister!" and more likely to say "What the heck, man?". Everyone uses modern fillers, it just takes longer for some people to hop on board.

I think a good example is the Winston Cigarette controversy. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winston_tastes_good_like_a_cigarette_should

I imagine, most people here use "like" in this way now. Does that make it trendy, or has it been long enough that it's okay for adults to use "like" to mean "as"?

Well, I mean, they *are* both simile words, right? So, interchangeable? :D

  6. His name is on the mortgage. We couldn't qualify with me on the loan because he has all the income and I have all the student loan debt. Even with an income based repayment plan with $0 payments, the mortgage company included what the full monthly payment would be if it wasn't in an ibrp. So he applied without me and got the loan.

But my name is on all the other legal paperwork (deed, etc.).

  7. When I had an underweight baby I was advised to feed her avocado and also pudding made with cream. After the fact I realized I have too much foremilk and she probably wasn't getting enough of the fatty hindmilk. Can you pump so bit before each feeding to get to the hindmilk faster?

Ultimately she was developing normally, and she was happy. She also has skinny genes. When I had another baby with similar growth patterns I fired the pediatrician who gave me grief and told me to stop nursing and give formula, and found one who thought more holistically.

  8. My sister works for Hospice and this is something we talk about a lot. I know this sounds cold but the amount of money and intervention we spend on people with no hope of survival is insane and cruel. Family doctors don't want to give the bad news so they keep dishing out false hope that "with 12 rounds of chemo Grandma has an extra 6 months". Of course the kids want her around so they convince her to try it and she lives those few extra months in a hospital, in agony. I think we would do well to get a little more comfortable with the reality that no one makes it out alive.

I agree. I'd rather live out my days with palliative care and hospice instead of painful and debilitating procedures that will give me both poor quality of life and prognosis while bankrupting either my family or society. I encourage people to read the book Being Mortal.
