  1. My dad was an electrician when I was a young child.

My s-dad was a master pipefitter until he retired.

DH is a carpenter/cabinetmaker who has lots of mad skillz in other areas as well.

DS#3 will be an electrician and/or HVAC tech.

When hiring other tradespeople, it is super-helpful to know who's who in the business and have contacts.  If you're looking for someone to do xyz job, ask for a referral from the guy who did a good job on zyx job, even if he is a different trade.

  2. I wore inserts in my shoes as a child to correct this, both feet, probably until age 7?  That was back in the days when shoe stores had actual customer service, and the employees just added the inserts to my new shoes.  I'm sure you'd have to go to a specialist now to get the right thing.

I also took ballet until age 7 or so.  Don't know if that helped, though.

  3. In order to make the nightly meal work we shift our entire meal schedule so it looks something like this:

    Breakfast 10am

    Lunch 2pm

    Snack before/during activities 4-6pm

    Dinner 9-10pm

We have a wonderful time together at dinner. I love that this is a memory my kids will have of connecting at the end of each day and sharing laughter.

  4. i am really curious - what makes this "official" if you can just print it out yourself? Or what makes the HSLDA one offical for that matter? I can't see why anyone would accept that sort of thing as proof of anything?

It's not. It is just as official as the unaccredited diploma you type up and print at home. That's kinda the point... why pay $120 for a useless ID when you can print one yourself?

  5. I'm wearing a sweatshirt and jeans today, plus thin wool socks and hiking boots.  Late September could be chilly, but I'd wait to look at the weather forecasts in September.  You could always swing by Goodwill to pick up some warmer things if you need them.

  6. How about having to *pour out* the water you brought for "safety reasons" that look suspiciously similar to "We feel it is safer for you to buy our $4 wasteful bottle of water on the other side of this gate than to bring your own free water in a waste-free water bottle."

Um... you know you can bring in an empty water bottle and fill it on the secure side?

  7. I never order coffee at Starbucks, and usually avoid them in favor of Dunk in Donuts or even a reputable gas station, just because I don't know what to order that I will actually like. I'm not going to pay an arm for something that tastes yucky. And why can't they just name their sizes small, medium, large, extra-large? Too much drama and confusion... maybe I'm just not sophisticated enough.

  8. I had a situation on eBay where they sent me the wrong battery for my laptop, the listing clearly said that it was the battery I needed,I had to agree to have my credit card charged to get the RMA, and it cost me shipping both ways because THEY made a mistake.

    Sometimes you just can't win.

I'm not a fan of either Amazon or eBay but sometimes you just have to settle for the least of the evils and you wind up getting ripped off anyway.

It sounds like the best solution was just to keep the book for a gift.

I would have appealed that with eBay and/or my c.c. company.
