  1. 2. Maybe things with more protein, to stay in their systems longer? Nuts/seeds....almonds, cashews, pistachios, pumpkin seeds Nut butter to go with their apples or crackers Greek yogurt (more protein than regular) Hard-boiled eggs Deli meat/cheese roll-ups Cottage cheese (I can't stand the stuff but it's high in protein & my little ones love it!) Will keep thinking...
  3. I dread the night before our cleaning woman comes, needing to tidy everything up so that she can do deep cleaning... but I am SO grateful when I come home after she's finished and everything is clean at the same time. To us, it is so worth it!!!
  4. Ahhh...so maybe that was it. I could see my boys being temporarily calmed while scarfing down bribery-treats...probably not for long, though.:)
  5. Oh!! I completely missed she has ADHD. I skimmed the article and then got hung up on them giving her a Coke!
  6. I don't see a problem with it, in the slightest. What I found odd, though, was (according to another article I read: http://www.foxnews.com/us/2012/04/17/police-handcuff-georgia-kindergartner-for-tantrum/?test=latestnews) the officers gave her a Coke to calm her down. :confused1: HUH?!?? My children (6, 4, 2) haven't ever had caffeine, but I think it is pretty safe to say that a Coke would NOT ever calm them down!
  7. Oh my goodness.....how awful, tragic, horrific, frustrating, unbelievable, sad.....:crying:
  8. This thread is depressing me!! I've lived abroad a few times in my life (UK, Milan, and Monaco [we lived in Villefranche sur Mer, between Monaco and Nice]) and they were my most favorite times ever. We're constantly brainstorming about how we can move back...but it's a lot more challenging with children, owning homes, the state of the economy, my husband's job, etc. Sigh, maybe someday.... To the original poster, I'd say it depends on whether you're more drawn to big city/small city/rural.... Any language experience you'd like to use or develop? Would you rather Western Europe? or more Central or Eastern? So many great options....
  9. I got off of FB about a year and a half ago and have not regretted it for a second!!!
  10. I've heard really good things about Downton Abbey! Haven't seen it yet myself, but would really like to one of these days...
  11. This is great to hear!! We'll be getting started this summer/fall--I'm very excited. We had parent-teacher conferences last week; they use Spalding at our children's school (er...am I saying that right Ellie ["use Spalding"]? I know there's a correct way to reference it and am not sure I ever do it right!)...anyway, our kg son's teacher primed us a little on next year and we found it so fascinating! (I'll be starting our four/almost five year old as well!)
  12. Am I too late? I enjoyed this thread! Here are a few books that I've loved (the writing and the stories) and have made me laugh out loud: The Princess Bride I love the movie and the book is even better! The Brothers K by David James Duncan. Amazing. Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls
  13. Sorry to be a pain :)...but any opinions on whether I should buy the 4th or 6th edition (or 5th?)?
  14. I am a click away from buying the 4th edition on amazon but keep wondering if I should just get the 6th edition. She must've updated it for some reason, right?
  15. This is encouraging!! I think I'm getting my head on straighter each day. :) Now for ordering the book...
  16. SO helpful--thank you. Will you come homeschool my little one(s)? Pleeease? :tongue_smilie:
  17. Oh, oops, I missed this one. So it looks like yes, also redundant...
  18. Okay, I think I'm gradually piecing this all together. :) How about handwriting? Is that covered? Would a Zaner-Bloser book be unnecessary?
  19. From my searches on here, I think I've gathered that the 4th edition of the WRTR book is the favorite/most user-friendly? Most of the posts were from before the start of the year and when I was looking for the 4th edition on amazon, I noticed that as of January there's also now a 6th edition?! Is the 4th edition still the favorite? Any thoughts on the 6th? Also, having not yet read through the book, I am still a little confused by what it includes and what it leaves out. Will I need to do any other spelling program (AAS? Spell to Write and Read? etc.)? Grammar (would Shurley English be complementary or redundant?)? Phonics instruction (would Saxon Phonics be complementary or redundant?)? or does WRTR cover it all?
  20. Now that I think more specifically about the measurement, I think I've been picturing paper w/ 5/8" lines to be much smaller than it actually is. Thank you for the guidance!
  21. Oh one more question--you mentioned the paper not being too small (or it wouldn't be included), but the kit also includes the notebook for 3rd & up...is the paper for the (slightly) older years?
