  1. Oh no! I have that to look forward to next week when mine arrives do I! Stephanie
  2. I am starting RS level B with my 1st grader as soon as it arrives and have just looked at Math Mammoth and it looks brilliant! I have read that RS doesn't have much written work compared to other programs and it seems to me that MM is a perfect complement to reinforce and give the drill needed. I like the fact that it is downloadable too. Thanks to people for suggesting it! Stephanie
  3. As it will be a few weeks before I can get my hands on WWE (being in the UK) how long would you say I should allow for a lesson for workbook 1? Thanks Stephanie
  4. About 36hrs ago but I am in the UK so have to have the time diff into account. I will email them again tomorrow am Stephanie
  5. Funny that I have the same problem! I ordered the Song School Latin bundle and only received the teacher's text. The packing slip had written on it that the workbook was out of stock but nothing to say whether it would be delivered. I'm a little frustrated because I paid for shipping to the UK. They haven't answered my email but perhaps they are busy at the moment? Stephanie
  6. Thanks! That's very useful. What about a suggested read for the Trivium? Is this the one that has been recomended before? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Trivium-Liberal-Logic-Grammar-Rhetoric/dp/0967967503/ref=pd_sim_b?ie=UTF8&qid=1216292999&sr=1-2 Stephanie
  7. Not wishing to ask a stupid question but I've read the WTM but not The Well Educated Mind Are these substantially different? Should I put WEM on my list of must get books? Following on which is the best book on the Trivium? Looking on amazon and there seem to be a few not all readily available? Just trying to get my holiday reading sorted lol! Thanks Stephanie
  8. Thanks, that's a relief! Stephanie
  9. Have you a link to the yahoo group? I'm waiting for amazon to deliver my book Thanks! Stephanie
  10. Please can you tell me whether I am doubling up or have missed anything OPGTR progressing quite nicely, hope to be at about lesson 80 in Sept Sight word readers (include some phonics) plus other readers (Dr Seuss etc progressing to whatever is in the library!) Lots of being read to as well. FLL (once we have reached lesson 80 or so in OPGTR) WWE haven't seen this yet but plan on using workbook 1 Getty and Dubay, currently level B, level C by Sept/Oct All about Spelling level 1 Have I missed any area? Do I need ETC for instance, I thought that I had covered it elsewhere but am not sure! Thanks! Stephanie
  11. That is really helpful. I had this on opne of my books to order but have kept putting it off, I will go and order a copy now! Stephanie
  12. That would help me sooooooo much! Stephanie
  13. Thanks! That is encouraging! Stephanie
  14. I like the fact that this looks really easy to implement, have any of you used level 1 with a 1st grader? We'll be on about lesson 80 of OPGTR when I plan to start in Sept (lots of sight words too as well as phonics). Thanks! Stephanie
  15. We use Getty and Dubay (book B) and I wondered whether there are any downloads where you can write your oen sentences for the child to either copy or trace over? I've seen startwrite, anyone used this, is it worth it or is there anything else? Thanks Stephanie
  16. Also bear in mind how large/small he writes as the line spacing does reduce the higher the level. It can be difficult to write larger than you normally do just to get the letters to fit into the space. So when I was deciding between D and E for my son I checked how large his current handwriting was so that he didn't suddenly have to increase his letter size. Level C body height is 9mm reducing to 6mm later on and level D is 6mm reducing to 5mm Stephanie
  17. I've just looked at this after reading another thread. We are currently doing Singapore "My Pals are Here" 1st grade after having done Early Bird. I do like Singapore but there are no teacher notes and although I am competent myself in maths, teaching it is something else especially as ds is the first I have homeschooled. Looking at Right Start it strikes me as being quite visual and easy for the child to see what is going on, plus it seems to be heavily scripted. I haven't seen this program mentioned much here, is it popular? And do people continue with it beyound the first few grades? Any feedback would be appreciated!!! Stephanie
  18. I'm looking for someone who has already seen WWE workbook 1 (I can't get it until Aug in the UK) so that I can plan how long a lesson should take. Also for FLL, how long would you spend in 1st grade on a lesson? Thanks Stephanie
  19. We did early bird and for some reason it took my son 6 months to recognise 6-10. He could do 1-5 very easily but it took ages to get the others. Once he got it there were no problems! I used Power Maths to supplement which is also singapore-not sure it it is available where you are but it is meant to be a complete kindergarten program but more advanced. I just dipped into it occasionally. Stephanie
  20. How long would you say each wwe lesson would take (for workbook 1) and also starting FLL. I'm trying to plan my first grader's schedule Thanks Stephanie
  21. I don't think he knows what "school" is he just wants to learn stuff as he has done since he was born. He doesn't see it as work which is to be avoided. I just taught ds phonics and numbers through play. I didn't need any lesson plans because it took time for me to know what worked with him and what didn't. I also found that when we doing learning at a young age often the kitchen table wasn't the best place, he wanted to lie on the floor and move about whilst leaning letters and numbers-Jump to the sound of J etc. Also probably being included is important to him so there is no reason why the "work" he does shouldn't be constructive and leading somewhere but I personally wouldn't bother with a lesson plan-although having goals in your head isn't a bad idea! Stephanie
  22. Has anyone done FLL together with Language lessons for the very young? I've not seen LLFTVY before and it looks good! Stephanie
  23. Not wishing to appear a bit dense, but can you give me the links for the vp cards abd songs you mention? Thanks! Stephanie
