  1. Can anyone share their routine on using Saxon grammar? I'm trying it independently, but he's missing way too much.
  2. I think it was the old Alt 6 or 7, it was 6 and 7 combined, all of world history in one year using Child's History of the World. I'd love input on it. Alison
  3. Can anyone give me an idea if Sonlight warns you about any books with possibly mature/intense scenes? Are there any books that you thought were inappropriate? I've read a few people had a problem with Mara, but I wasn't sure what the problem was, any help with this? Thank you. Alison
  4. I would like to try sonlight's core G, but I want to use it more independently. Are parents supposed to read the spines, or the kids? Wouldn't it work out okay to just use the spines and readers and skip the read alouds?
  5. MUS is Math-U-See. We stick to the basics for these early years. I have done history, science, and some arts for the younger years, but my priority is the basics. If I get nothing else done but basics then I'm totally okay with that. My kids do get the history and science through reading their books, without a formal curriculum. I typically have planned on doing subjects other than basics, but it hasn't always worked out. Alison
  6. I need a free lands end shipping code if anyone can help. Alison
  7. She's outgrown Lands End kids suits. She Really wants a swim skirt for the bottom.
  8. So I guess it was a permanent ban? Thanks for letting me know. Someone mentioned Amy the other day...The Foil Hat. I just think of these ladies sometimes, but never know the rest of the story. Alison
  9. My 10 year old has outgrown her Lands End kids bathing suits. I love those things. She needs a junior or junior plus size. Anyone have suggestions on where I can find something for her? Alison
  10. I think it's peekaboo I'm thinking of. Her picture was a catwoman face? I used to enjoy her posts.
  11. Thank you. I was really needing to hear something positive about the readers. Do you consider any of them really intense for more sensitive kids? I think I'll go with G and skip portions, then use it with my next kiddos.
  12. I was going to buy core G, prob. pieced together but now I'm not so sure. My son will be in 7th grade soon. He did ancients with SOTW 1 when he was 6, which I doubt he remembers. Then we did some of HOD's CTC ancient program in 5th grade. We did not finish it. Now he's on the tail end of 6th grade and I've been reading Mystery of History 1 out loud for several months. I also have him reading a chapter of SOTW 1 a day. However, history can sometimes be skipped depending on how busy our day is. I was going to do SL core G, but now I'm not sure. Since he's already done some ancient, and we've done some early American, but not anything in between ancient or early american, what would be best? We've also not completed any modern history. I'd love to do Core G, but I'm not sure we could finish it all. Because we are hit and miss, I have concerns that the work load would be too much for us. He's my procrastinator. Is the 2nd part of core G what I really need to fill in the gaps? I'm not sure how much they are getting by my reading aloud MOH...and that is all I have been doing, no mapping, etc. I really want him to be able to understand history from some great books, but I wasn't sure if Sonlight did that from their readers, or if most of the history knowledge was from the spines. Any suggestions? Alison
  13. A couple weeks ago I saw a few of you highly recommending a history textbook. I think there may have been several texts that covered all of history. It was secular, but I think there were no issues in it for Christians. Anyone help me out with what that was?
  14. I am so confused by all of this. It sounds like a very confused company. Can someone tell me what happened with John H.? Why did he quit, and why doesn't anyone like his wife's changes? I am seriously considering buying one of their cores this year.
  15. In the past two weeks I've been on two seperate websites and while clicking on a link at these websites I've had the same P%^n site come up full of pictures. Will mobicip or some other filter stop this? I am really afraid my kids will see this. I had this happen once, years ago, on the pc, but it was a small window. This is a full page coming up like I went there on purpose. Thanks for any advice. Alison
  16. Ok, thank you. Looks like we'll have to play catch up like I originally planned. Have either of you used the algebra? I plan to stick with theMUS series and not switch.
  17. Do you think the pre-algebra is necessary, or is it just review of the other books? If I'm going to make it through pre-algebra in 8th grade, I'll have to do summer math with him. He's 12 and just started Epsilon. Alison
  18. I feel like I've missed something here. I understand the changes to the cores, but can someone elaborate on their prob w/ the company? What did John do, why did they change their catalog, etc. I haven't really looked at the company for about 8 years, since they closed their forums. Now I am considering buying core g, but I'd like to understand what I'm dealing with.
