  1. He's not taking the class, but I was thinking about it. I am disappointed that the class is no longer showing on the site. I liked the fact that it was AOPS and Singapore as well.
  2. When we were looking for the meaning of this song, I found this video helpful. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKzwZnyvLcE
  3. We use Lively Latin and really like it. My only complaint about it is that the pages can sometimes be too busy. I would prefer a cleaner layout. Other than that, the videos are helpful, the audio is great to be sure pronunciation is correct. We started using Quizlet for the vocabulary instead of the games on the site though.
  4. I homeschool one only. He's involved in several activities outside the house, and has a lot of varied peer interactions. We plan to homeschool until college. We'll continue accessing resources (classes, activities, etc) outside our house as needed. :)
  5. I think it was nice because the acronym made it easy to remember and thus follow through with. It made it seem simple and easy where writing at this stage can sometimes feel overwhelming and complicated. It was also really great to see the samples as it helped me to visualize a plan in my mind.
  6. We have only used the workbook version, but from what I've heard, Wordly Wise online is independent.
  7. I just posted about something like this. I am using the last suggestion on that thread and it's working very well. When I put the lines for him to copy in cursive RIGHT ABOVE where he is to write and ask him to match it, he's doing it and writing much smaller. I also used another suggestion to talk to him about cursive as an art form and as a means of communicating with others (meaning others need to be able to read it). I'll post an example to that thread later. The key was to put the example in curse right above where he is to write so that he can match the size. http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/543275-my-sons-cursive-is-too-fat-and-scrawly/
  8. Oh! It's sad that you removed your CORN method. I thought it was great and plan to use it.
  9. It seems that there must be more reasons why you switched? What do you like about Latin Prep over Lively Latin?
  10. We had troubles connecting to it today as well. It looks like it's back now.
  11. Check out this thread. There are links to textbooks that could be used as a spine. http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/472872-mcgraw-hill-science-textbook-workbook-lab-book-free-grade-1-6/ We also really liked Evan Moore daily science for a decent overview, "get it done" type of science. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1596739282/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=1596739282&linkCode=as2&tag=whispesprin0e-20&linkId=3W6HHLWGQTWNYF5M
  12. Mine was cured by wearing Okabashi at all times in the house, and out of the house (luckily it was spring/summer when I got them). I bought 2 pair so one pair stayed clean for house only. I suffered for about 8 months trying all sorts of different things before I discovered them . I was cured within a month or two of wearing them exclusively. If I'm not careful and wear other shoes for long walks, I can feel that dull ache again. If I do, the Okabashis go back on immediately. These are the ones I bought because I don't like a strap between my toes. They are mens, but they look just fine for women too I think. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004NWM6VW/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B004NWM6VW&linkCode=as2&tag=whispesprin0e-20&linkId=3IGQNYLLT27BUE5R
  13. Yes, and yes with the red stripped smock dress and all. I really enjoyed it.
  14. I really like that explanation. I'll try that. :) Thank you!
  15. Hmm, ok. I appreciate the input. I guess most of his work looks like the first one so I start to think it will never get better. The second one does show that he can do better if he really puts his mind to it so at least there is that. Usually on the MOSDOS, we alternate with one oral and one written, but this day he had to do the last few written because I had something to do and I wanted him to keep working.
  16. He doesn't complain that his hand hurts. He did when he was much younger, but he's built up his hand strength since then. These were written within days of one another. Here's one of the MOSDOS pages. It's pretty bad. Here is a final draft version of something he wrote last week, so this is his very best. When he does his final drafts, I have him do one paragraph at a time with other things in between, so he's not becoming fatigued.
  17. He writes in WWE 3 (the lines are pretty large), MOSDOS workbook, spelling book, etc. I'll post a couple samples a little later.
  18. My son has been writing in cursive since he was 5 years old. He didn't do well with printing, but picked up cursive immediately. We have worked on it ever since. He knows how to form letters and connect letters, but the letters are all too wide, and large, and scrawl across the line. I feel as though he often wrote better when he was 5 than he does now. :glare: Are there some methods that I can use now that he's toward the end of 4th grade to help him to form his letters a little smaller and more compact so it looks a bit more mature? It works better when I make him write in regular notebook paper, but I was thinking of having him practice writing letters inside square graph boxes? Any ideas? Thanks so much!
  19. Lol! That will teach me to skim people's posts. I skimmed the beginning of Tibbie's post before clicking the links and just about choked because I thought the outline and rewrite was done by a 4th grader. :) Thank you for sharing those examples. That was extremely helpful (once I went back and read the actual grade levels of those who completed the work ;) ).
  20. Grammar: Hake? I want to do Analytical Grammar but I think we'll start that next year since it only goes over 3 years. So for this year we'll do Hake to keep the momentum of FLL 1 - 4 and then switch to AG next year. Writing: Writing with Skill 1 & writing across the curriculum IEW style History: SOTW 4 Science: CPO Life Math: AOPS Prealgebra. I bought Lial's too just in case. Literature: MOSDOS Coral (already started and *love* it), MCT novel studies, and other various assigned and free reading Spelling: Megawords Geography: Continue Trail Guide to US Geography Latin: Continue Lively Latin Big Book of Latin 1 and eventually start book 2. Computers: Continue modding with minecraft, Blender animation, etc. Extra Curricular: swimming, drama, piano, fine art class at the local art school,
  21. I have them. :) The representative for my area sent them to me in pdf form (and I did a happy dance!). PM me with your email address and they are yours too!
  22. I agree. We did Minecraft Homeschool, and even that was stressful (there were assignments and deadlines and quizes). It was good to go through it since the outcome didn't really matter, but you're right, it was a lesson learned.
