  1. .I do like it, I can feel my muscles stretching when I do it.
  2. Gee, I must be tired! It's actually "A Good Woman". Helen Hunt and Scarlett Johanssen are in it. It's not "Out of Africa" league, but pretty good if you like historical pieces. Have you seen "The Girl with the Pearl Earring" with Mr. Darcy (Colin Firth) - wow...
  3. "The Painted Veil" was amazing, so poignant. Agree that it is on par with "Out of Africa", one of my favs. Have you seen "An Inconvenient Woman"?
  4. Well, I've got volumes to back me up. Apparently you have nothing but "LOL, great argument"... typical. Maybe someone with something to say will chime in. Like GG, I respect the opinions of others *when they actually have one*.
  5. She hung out here because she genuinely liked and respected most of the people here, and enjoyed discussing and debating the myriad of topics that arise. The "we" was most definitely not all-inclusive. I think many of us would agree that there are a few holier-than-thous here who might think about rereading Matt. 7:3 and applying it once in awhile. If folks would look back over GG's old posts as I did, they would realize that she had a lot of interesting things to say, often spoke out about respecting the differing views of others, and was only ornery when cornered, like most of us are. :) She was invited to go elsewhere on more than one occasion (and you know who you are), and was constantly being anonymously criticized, and *this* is what aggravated her, NOT the board itself or the honest people on it. I think most folks would agree that the last altercation was provoked and nothing but downright nasty; can you say 'witch-hunt'? I wonder how it feels to have driven an "undesirable" off the boards. Not very christian in my book... or then again, maybe it is.
  6. Me, too. I can overlook style for the sake of substance, while apparently some can not.
  7. I use the Fluidity ballet bar because I want to look like my dd, the ballet dancer, with her long, beautiful muscles. :) One of the things the creator of the system believes is that you should always stretch a muscle after you work it. The stretches are very much like yoga poses, and are done immediately after working each muscle. Apparently, it is this stretching that gives ballet dancers their long, lean muscles rather than the short, bulky muscles you see in body builders.
  8. I am unfailingly polite and reasonable until someone pushes me just a bit too far... then, watch out! I have been known to go postal on people, but, know what? That's actually what it takes with some people; it's the only way they get the message. My fil and I have a lovely relationship now because he pushed me a bit too far one day and I had to straighten him out. :)
  9. This is nothing new. It goes on all the time in these countries where women are treated as property to be bartered. Young girls become pregnant and their bodies are literally torn apart while trying to birth the babies. This is why I support Women International; they give voice to women in these countries whose governments allow them to be abused.
  10. We don't turn on the tv before 8pm, and I plan tv the same way I plan lessons. On Sunday, I go online to a tv listings site, scroll through the week and pick out whatever educational shows I think the kids should watch. I write them down on the calendar. Then, that's what we watch. If there's nothing on, we don't turn on the tv. We were falling into the mindless channel-flipping trap; this has solved that. My kids are older than yours, I believe, so they stay up later. We usually go to bed around 10. You could modify the times for your own family. I would say we watch about ten hours per week, which I don't consider an unreasonable amount.
  11. No. I looooved to read, but was given no guidance as to what good literature was. We read a bit in school, but not much.
  12. Here, too. Just be careful of popcorn. My dd likes to chew the unpops if I don't catch her, and she has cracked her sealants. :glare:
  13. Around 10. I started off with about 15 minutes, and worked up to a few hours now that he's 12. I don't leave him for much longer than two hours because he gets bored and hungry (I don't let him eat when I'm not here!)
  14. Not as long as they're under my jurisdiction. A member of our family was decapitated in a motorcycle accident. They were not driving recklessly, just didn't stand a chance against the truck that hit them.
  15. It sounds like you are holding the water in and it's creating pressure on your eyes. Are you tipping your head right? It does take some practice. If you do it correctly, it should run in and right out again.
  16. My kids hated this book; the gleeful killing of every animal they came across really upset them. We got about halfway through and quit.
  17. We're here in CT for my dh's job and dd's ballet school. While I like it enough here, I don't see us staying indefinitely. The winters are brutal, and I have a gypsy soul. I like moving to someplace new every now and then. :)
  18. Put up french doors to the living room (we are converting that useless room into a guest room), maybe do some painting. Anything not to have to work on the taxes! :)
  19. I regard adults like this as bullies, and bullies, left alone, only get more vicious. I'd have a very frank ( read snarky, cause that's just how I am!) conversation with her, and also document the incident in a letter to the school.
  20. Exactly what I was thinking, and I had a boss like that so I know whereof I speak. Good luck, Karen!
  21. We do summer school. We do math and read a lot, and, if there is something we got behind on, we use it to catch up.
