  1. I spoke to Jessie Wise in June, and she suggested Rod and Staff 5 after FLL4.
  2. I can still see them on the WTM home page before you click on the forums link
  3. I have been feeling achey lately, and I was thinking that I was coming down with the flu or something, but maybe it's because of the early menopause. My doctor said that I will probably still get my period, but maybe in a few months. The only good thing that I can think of (so far) in starting menopause early is to not have to deal with periods anymore :).
  4. Thank you. I have requested that book from my library. My doctor didn't suggest any hormones for me so far. If I have any questions, I'll definitely ask you. Thanks!
  5. I saw my doctor today and was told that I am starting menopause already, and I am 39, turning 40 in Jan. I assume it's perimenopause. Anyways, other than feeling a bit depressed about it, is there anything I should be doing about it? I have been getting hot flushes, and it's been 66 days and counting since my last . . I know it's a normal and natural stage in life, but I never thought it would happen to me so soon. My mom had a hysterectomy before 40 (she still has her ovaries), but didn't remember feeling hot flushes until close to 50. I just feel like I'm getting old faster now because of this.
  6. In my doctor's office, they only call about any results if there is a problem. If everything is normal, I don't hear from them.
  7. I am using CLE Math 2 with my ds7. He can do it quite independently. I just have to make sure I read the lesson to him and teach him anything he needs to know (which only takes a few minutes). I also have to read some of the longer word problems for him since he doesn't read very well yet. If he starts math without me, he will do the things that he knows first, and leave the rest for me to help him with. I love CLE math!
  8. I am thinking of afterschooling Logic and Latin, but I don't really know if we'll get to them.
  9. My oldest will be going back to school in September for grade 8. I plan on afterschooling logic and Latin (if we get to it). If not, then that's fine too.
  10. Thanks for the info. I always like to know why I should or shouldn't do something, LOL.
  11. I have this on pre-order as well. I remember a thread about is saying that The Colors would be available sometime in the 2009/2010 school year, but they can't say exactly when. I am now considering a new science curriculum for my ds10. It is called Science Excursion, and seems similar to The Colors. http://www.scienceexcursion.com/
  12. I got an email response from her this morning: The curriculum is not written in grade order, but is written in subject order. You may start in any area you would like (i.e. chemistry, biology). Also the curriculum was written to do a lesson once a week, however, if you have a second grader you may do it faster and then finish it at the end of their 3rd grade year. If you have any questions please let me know. I assume they are all like this. I am really considering this for two of my dc now.
  13. Yes, what were you thinking? Just kidding:D Too bad no one else knows anything about this curriculum.
  14. I emailed them twice about two of my dc, but I haven't gotten a response yet. I asked how it would work if my dc started the curriculum in the middle. One will be starting grade 2 in September, and the other one will be starting grade 5. The programs are grades 1-3, and 4-6, so I wanted to know if I would start at the beginning for both (and perhaps double up on lessons for a while), or just skip the first 36 lessons. Does anyone know?
  15. When I first used them with my ds, I had them write their answers in the student workbooks, but they did not like doing that. When we got to the second book, I decided to do it orally, so after I the Bible story to them, I read each question, and my boys took turns answering the questions. It was much more interesting for them this way, and they enjoyed it a lot more. My dc were in grades 3 and 5 at the time. If you do it this way, you only need the teacher book, not the student book.

  17. so we'll start school the day after Labour Day. Plus my oldest will be in school this year, so it makes sense for us to all start school at the same time.
  18. My ds can also spell better than he can read. He does pretty well on most of his spelling tests. I'll have to read SWR again because I haven't looked at in about a year ( just using the Wise Guide).
  19. I'm in Canada, and I know that Ontario and BC both have K cut-off dates of Dec. 31st. Alberta even had a cut-off of Feb 28th, I think! Anyways, I do think of my son as going into grade 2 rather than grade 3. He is also quite immature for his age, so being in grade 2 will give him an extra year to mature.
  20. You're right, Elizabeth, I am being impatient. My first two dss read earlier, so I guess I am feeling worried that ds7 is not picking it up as quickly. He would be going in to grade 3 if he was in school (kids here start K if they will turn 5 by Dec. 31st), so he is definitely not reading at grade level. I know it is something that I should try not to worry about. I have read about kids who pick up reading later and catch up to their peers. Where can I get list of K5 level books? Thanks :).
  21. I am tweaking a bit, but I do the finger spelling when dictating the words for the first time. We haven't really done any of the rules, so when I start from list A again, I will have to add those in. I will try and persevere with SWR. I know that it is a good program :).
  22. My ds also likes to guess the word after a few letters sometimes. He mixes up fourteen and fifteen in his math book because he just reads the first letter and the last few letters.
