  1. Ah, thanks, Karen, for explaining. I thought I was missing something. Colleen
  2. They are next to the envelopes in the first column, and sometimes there is a smiley face or a question mark, or some other icon. What are they for? Colleen
  3. Thank you, Wendy and freethinkermom, I am thinking of level 2 because my ds will be in grade 7. If I go with HO, I will probably let him choose which time period he wants to study. Wendy, how are you scheduling HO since you are LCC based? I have also been trying to implement LCC with my boys, and I know that history is usually done one day a week with that. I also don't want history to be the center of our curriculum but my ds likes history so I want something that he will enjoy. He will be motivated if he enjoys the subject. Colleen
  4. Deborah, I saved your post from the old board, but I'm going to save this one as well. I have 4 dss myself, and your post is going to be so helpful. God bless you and your family! Colleen
  5. I'm looking for a history curriculum for my oldest (going to grade 7). I'd like one where he could do a lot of it independently so I can spend more time with my youngers. He read all four volumes of SOTW last summer, so doesn't want to do that again (I'm doing SOTW with my other dc). He does enjoy history. I'm thinking of HO now, but would welcome other suggestions as well. Thanks. Colleen
  6. Hi Everyone, My name is Colleen, and I have been married to DH for 12.5 years. We have 4 dss: 11, 9, 6, and 20 months. We've homeschooled from the beginning, but oldest ds went to private school this year for the first time (grade 6). We are considering homeschooling him again for grade 7. We live in the west coast of Canada. I've been coming to these boards for about 4 years now.
  7. Thanks for everyone's replies. I *wish* I could also nap in the afternoon sometimes, LOL. Colleen
  8. My 6yos still has naps in the afternoon most of the time. If we are going anywhere in the car after lunch, he will definitely fall asleep. My older two dss weren't like this, so I'm wondering if it's unusual for my 6yo to be like this. Colleen
  9. and I am so impressed by their helpfulness and friendliness. I am considering Chalkdust Prealgebra for my oldest ds, and talking to them really helped me to decide to go with them. They even encouraged me to buy their curriculum used to save money if I had a chance to. Colleen
  10. My ds did PL when he was 7.5 years old. He liked it a lot and finished the book before the end of the school year, so we started on LC 1. He got bogged down in LC 1 by around chapter 12. We stopped Latin for a while, and now we got started again with Minimus. Ds enjoys Minimus a lot, but I think he learned more Latin with PL. PL goes through it more systematically, while Minimus teaches Latin kind of "as it comes up" (IMO). With my 6yos, I just let him follow along with us with Minimus. He likes the stories, but wanders off to play when 9yos is doing the grammar activities. HtH Colleen
  11. I did it before, but now I can't figure out how I did it. I think I clicked on someone's link, but can't find the link now. TIA Colleen
  12. I did it before, but now I can't figure out how I did it. I think I clicked on someone's link, but can't find the link now. TIA Colleen
  13. Thanks, Heather. I thought it was just me ! Colleen
  14. I am thinking of using Science Explorer with my ds who will be in grade 7 next year, and would like to know what else to get other than just the text books. Thanks. Colleen
  15. Why is it that even with threads that I have not read, they are no longer in bold? A little earlier, there were some new threads in bold, but now (when I logged in again), none of them are bold. That makes it hard to keep track of which ones I have read and not read. Is there anyway to stop this from happening? TIA Colleen
  16. Thanks, Erica. It worked for me too! Colleen
  17. Where can I see samples of PH Science Explorer? I'd like to show my ds but don't know where to see samples. Thanks. Colleen
