Can you describe how you use this program. Also, are you seeing results? THANKS:D

I never seem to get around to the projects either. However, if my kiddos see something they want to do, then they do it themselves! I do use the map work and color sheets... and I love the activity guide for the comp. questions, and book lists!!

I liked the way the forums were... But have honestly come to like this forum so much better. I love how we can have a picture by our names, and love the inclusion of our signatures. I have been MUCH more active on this new format... I feel like I am really part of a family now:) I do hope everyone will give this forum a chance!!! Blessings to all

Wordless Wednesday - post yours here
michaeljenn replied to Laura Corin's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
Here is mine:rolleyes: -
How do you go about this. I know that sounds like a dumb question.. but really what I mean is what do you have them do. For some reason, I feel like they have to have some glorious essay with each and every notebooking piece. I want notebooking to be fun though, and I know they will treasure their notebooks when they are older!! So, tell me what you require in your notebooking pages, and how long it usuall takes, and how often?? I have thought about taking 1 day, and have a BIG notebooking afternoon.. I would put the names of the people/events, ect... that I want them to notebook about on the whiteboard, and we would just get all the supplies out and notebook our hearts out. But, would that seem overwhelming?? Also... I would love to see some pictures of YOUR notebooking pages:D THANKS

I have just started using this a bit for my 11 & 12yo. I also noticed people using it on the High School board. So, I was wondering what ages is this really intended for??

Planning for next year: Post 4th grade plans here
michaeljenn replied to nukeswife's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
I will have a 4th grader next year... here are my plans.. Math- Rod and Staff 4 English- Rod and Staff 4; Daily Paragraph Editing; possibly some IEW too Spelling- Rod and Staff Spelling 4 Reading- Literature correlating with history. I may have her do Rod and Staff Reading too:confused: History- MFW- Exploration to 1850 *or* Sonlight Core 3 Science- Included in MFW *or* Sonlight Science Rosetta Stone Spanish God and the History of Art English from the Roots up 2 (that is if we finish 1:rolleyes:) I think that covers it! -
We use MFW's Rome to the Reformation. I love having everything laid out and planned for me. I do have the option of adding more if I want to though! I do plan my own Language Arts though...which consist of Rod and Staff English, Daily Paragraph Editing and Spelling Wisdom; all of these programs are just a do the next lesson kind of thing:)

I would move on. I would still have her practice them though. I wore my children out trying to get them to master those facts... and it led to frustration on all of us!! So, I have them do a fact practice sheet daily, or have them practice their facts on the computer every day. They are memorizing them still, just in a relaxed manner. If fact, I feel like they know them better now, then when we were "focusing" on memorizing them! I also give them fact charts to look at while doing their math and they rarely use it anymore, because they have mastered them, in a natural way. Also, if I were to quiz you on your facts, how would you honestly do? Would you feel nervous while I quiz you? I started really thinking about all this, and decided to not stress about it! Blessings!!!

Man, I would have a very hard time letting go of my blessed curriculum too!! I mean, that is my hobby you know, to research, buy, research, buy.. I love curriculum. I would only sell the things you KNOW you won't use again. You never really know what the future will bring. You may homeschool again. Blessings, Jen

Poll Time! How old are you! (eek!!)
michaeljenn replied to siloam's topic in General Education Discussion Board
That was so weird to check the 35-39 box... I mean really, I feel like I am 18!! I am also in denial of the gray hair on my head:eek: I am too young for this!! Jen -
Ellie... I just have to ask.. If you had to do it over again, would you choose Easy Grammar or Rod and Staff English for your dc? Jen

Poll Time! What do you use for Writing?
michaeljenn replied to siloam's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
We have used a variety of things! We use the writing in Rod and Staff Grammar, and also supplement with Writing Strands. I just bought Format Writing which has been a big help too! I am also going to begin IEW SWI B soon too. I really feel like a variety of resources are good. Writing is my weakness.... so I rely on lots of materials!! Jen -
Do you think R&S is on level for math?
michaeljenn replied to Karen in CO's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
I agree the with the above poster. I switched to Rod and Staff math 3, 5 and 6 from Saxon this year and have seen amazing results. Rod and Staff is all about getting those basics down. I think that if you get those basics down it will set your child up for success in the upper maths! Jen -
Thanks Regena... I appreciate the info! Jen

What spelling book have you found works well for your DC?
michaeljenn replied to momtolgd's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
We just started using Spelling Wisdom. It is still too new to see results. Jen -
I am trying to figure out how these are the be used? I have looked at the website, but remain clueless! If you have used these, can you give me a description of how to use these?? Also, how much time should be allowed? Jen
-
We also use Rod and Staff 5&6.. I just schedule a writing time each day in addition to Rod and Staff. I just picked up a copy of Jensens Format Writing and have started implementing it, which has been a huge success!! I am really thinking of checking out CW for next year though. Jen
