  1. Have you considered reading Treasure Island, Last of the Mohicans, etc in an abridged version? My boys, ages 12 and 10 have read the classics (over and over and over) since they were 6 and know the stories by heart. Now that the oldest is getting into the unabridged versions, it is so easy for him. He knows the plot, the characters and is just getting all of the details now. Barnes and Noble has some short ones, some medium length and some that are barely abridged. My middle son read The Hobbit three times last year. Find something he likes and let him go with it~ Be careful, some of the newer books that we've picked up from the library are complete rubbish. Bethlehem Books has some great historical fiction aimed at boys. The Story of Roland is great.
  2. Try putting a little in a spoonful of yogurt. You don't notice the viscous consistency when it's mixed with yogurt.
  3. 45-60 minutes. If he procrastinates, we move onto something else and he can finish his math after he completes everything else.
  4. Nature's Way refrigerated probiotics are the only ones that I will use and could recommend. Primadophilus would be great. You can sprinkle on food if you can't swallow, though you'll want to take more because fewer make it to the intestines if they are not in the capsule. HTH~
  5. Hang in there. The last year has been a roller coaster for a lot of us~ May you feel loved, be at peace and know that God is bigger than whatever you are going through. :grouphug: Take care~ Dawanna
  6. I agree! There is nothing normal about this. Call the REAL police if they bother you again~ Dawanna
  7. We've had cable for about 4 months in 14 years. Each time we thought we missed it, we realized the same shows were being played years later. It's totally possible to have life without cable. And much more pleasant~ :D Congrats!
  8. Google Indigo children and see what you think~ There are books you can browse through at barnes & noble as well.
  9. We had similar results on testing this year. It's hard because you want to tell everyone, yet you don't want to brag and make others feel bad. I'm SOOOOO proud of my boys and how hard they worked to get those results! Kudos to you for being a good teacher, Mom!:D
  10. :iagree: Take it one day at a time~ God is very good and He will give you the strength and the words that you need to get through this. :grouphug:
  11. Thank you for your sweet words.

    I love these forums.

I'm so thankful to count you as my friend and I hope your day goes smoothly and you are surrounded with love~

  12. We WILL add on, trust me! We all get along great for the most part, pms aside. :D Fanghorn Forest is where we are moving, according to my 6yo. He couldn't be happier with his legos and a pillow. I would love to spend the majority of my time outside! Here in the city, it's just not that interesting,, kwim? You guys have me more excited than I was to start with!!! AND I'm going to have all of these great homeschool visitors, so I can't wait~:D
  13. I love that one, too~ It's on the Starring Goofy dvd. You can have fires and I'd love for you to camp. I'm serious, too! ;)
  14. I got rid of all of the books that didn't have to have when we moved here. The kitchen table doubles for whatever we need it for. My business can be done anywhere, right now it's the kitchen counter, a work bench and the coffee table. ;) We would build the studio right away. Paperwork is contained in a nice, neat file box and on my computer. You guys are so great for thinking about the little things that I would overlook! I really appreciate you~ :001_smile: ***Hubby is there looking at it and says that there is an older hunting cabin on the property that could easily be fixed up and made livable. It could be used as storage and my studio.
  15. You are ALL invited if we buy it! How about a fall retreat instead? We homeschool year round so that we can take the fall off when we are itching to be outside~
  16. Hooray for you!:D The winter would be interesting. We're used to entertaining ourselves, no tv except for dvds and lots of books and projects. Sticks, wooden swords and their bows keep my boys entertained for days. Legos are their most valued possessions. My books and wooden knitting needles are mine! And my artisan jewelry business that I run out of the home. We'll build a little studio for me and I'll be ecstatic~ I go to shows a few times a month, so it's not like we'll be stranded there or anything. Plus, the grandparents live within a couple of hours from the cabin. We actually talked about a yurt. There is another 600 sf storage bldg on the property. It is an older cabin. Haven't seen the inside of it yet. We will tomorrow~
  17. It's a beautiful plan, seekingsimplicity! I hope it comes to fruition for you~
  18. YOU GUYS ARE MY HEROES! And LCCers too?! Kindred spirits~
  19. The articles are ALWAYS architects who strip the apt bare and custom design the space. I'm talking floor boards that come up and there is storage for all of the toys, etc. It always baffles me~
  20. Arkansas~ You are MORE than welcome. We'll lay on hammocks and read all day, okay?! :D
  21. It has all utilities. We would be living under our means. That's the whole idea. We had the 'American dream, complete with perfect backyard and professional range' and I was not any happier. It was actually a disappointment that it wasn't a big deal to us once we achieved it! :001_huh: I grew up a bohemian lifestyle in 900 sf for 5 people and it didn't seem that small. Three boys, 12, 11 and 6 yrs old who actually get along. There are two huge covered porches that could be screened in immediately. And we would spend a LOT of time outside. That's half of the reason that we want to be there~ You guys are awesome!!!!!!!
  22. It is 1/2 mile from public access to a HUGE, gorgeous lake with endless kayaking possibilities. And in the Ozark mtns, which are more like large, rolling hills. My hubby and I lived in MT for 2 yrs and L.O.V.E. the mountains. We went on a fly fishing trip to WY a few weeks ago and decided that we like it better here. The Rockies are gorgeous, but a little more rugged than I remembered. I must have the four distinct seasons to be happy! :001_smile: We want to buy a place now where we can retire later on. It must be in the country and it must be a log or cedar cabin. We can always build a bigger place or add on later. 15 minutes from a town with a hospital and all the 10,000 population amenities. 30 minutes from a 70,000 pop city.
  23. A simple wrap of light grey yarn, using stockinette stitch. I LOVE the feel of bamboo needles. Just holding them makes me happy~
