  1. I am familiar with open access AP US class, and I'd forgotten they have the non-AP. It looks like they have a writing assignment for each chapter with discussion and extra reading options. My goal is to streamline while still requiring "enough". Thanks!
  2. In our state, homeschoolers have to teach history, geography, and government. In the past I've included all three in the time period we are studying. I was hoping to do that again with US history, but I'm more interested in opinions on what constitutes a basic American history course. My ds has studied quite a bit of US history informally, and I want to work out what I'll require for a credit. Thanks :)
  3. I'd like some input on what will equal one credit of US History (which includes government). My ds (junior) was going to study for the AP US History next spring. Now he may take some other college courses instead. (Race and Ethnicity in America, History of Ancient Israel...) One of the colleges he is applying to wants to see one year of US History on the transcript. His transcript will include 3 history courses already (including at least one college course), so I'm considering changing this semester's plan from AP US Hist prep to a basic high school credit in US History. Here's what he's doing...is it enough? There was more writing and AP prep before. --Reading Tindall and writing responses to one chapter question--once a week? twice a month? --Reading Lies my Teacher told Me. --Watching Teaching Company US History (84 lectures over the course of the year.) --Reading Idiot's Guide to American Government. What would you add or take away to call this one credit? Thanks!
  4. Do you put volunteer and college on the resume?
  5. April 2009. Overqualified, made too much, not a good risk. Dh is applying for jobs at 1/3 his prior pay. And he has had many postive interviews-just no job offers. On the positive side, he's in college now. He found a new path through volunteer work- but it'll take six years :ack2:. We've got to figure out how to keep ourselves fed and housed through the process.
  6. Is there a tentative date for this? Tentative year? :D I'm planning next year and hoping this will be out by late spring?
  7. That just stinks, Aubrey. I'm sorry you are in this position. My dh is applying for jobs at a third his prior income. And not getting them.
  8. Same boat, and not sure about next year. I haven't looked at WTM suggestions for early modern yet, but I'm hoping I like them. I'm also hoping SWB's next history is published by the end of next school year so we can read through it as a recap. This year we are using Teaching Company High and Late Middle Ages to cover the years 1100-1600. Are you adding anything?
  9. I hadn't thought of emailing her. I'm going to go back over a few chapters and see if I can figure it out first. Thanks :)
  10. Yes, that's how it reads. And it makes sense. But I thought she was arguing earlier that Constantine did not believe Romanness was enough. He saw Christianity as able to hold together groups that wouldn't be able to unify otherwise. And that is where I'm wondering if I misunderstood SWB's point earlier in the book. Wah! :)
  11. I'm reading on page 138 of THotMW by SWB, and I'm wondering if I've been missing her point, or if this is a typo. "But the death warrant for the western empire had been signed by Constantine over a century before, when he had decided that Romanness alone could hold the empire together." It seems to me it should read "Romanness alone could not hold the empire together." Granted, I've been reading way too long, my mind is muddled, and I need some hot chocolate:tongue_smilie:, but without not, I'm afraid I've missed something... Thoughts? Thanks!
  12. I think it's $25, they send it to you, you give your child the test and send it back. Pretty painless and quick. You can get the test at any time. I've missed years before. Not to worry- just get it done ASAP :) http://www.setontesting.com/
  13. I just sat on the side of the tub and showed her how. The second time I was close by if she had any questions. She had A LOT of hair that first time- it was better for her to start with stubble. I also have a sizable scar on my ankle (shudder...)
  14. If you purchase bread at a regular grocery store, what do you buy? I'm looking for sandwich bread and toast with jam bread. Usually I go to the bread store for whole grain bread, but sometimes I can't get there and feel completely lost at the grocery store. Sherry
  15. City of God-please help me locate this quote. Ds didn't like Confessions-maybe this will give him a laugh when he recalls Augustine. Thanks! Found it: The City of God, XIV:24
  16. Check out The Core Program: 15 Minutes a Day That Can Change Your Life by Peggy Brill. Amazon has search inside and libraries usually carry it. She includes 3 levels of a 15 minute workout and a 'safe' strength training routine that can be done at home with weights. There are some machine suggestions, but squats and such can be done instead. (She does not give suggestions for them.) This is the workout I continue to come back to. I've tried T-Tapp, Shred, etc. and come whimpering back to the Core Program. My back/joints can't handle the others. Like you, cardio is taken care of with walking/swimming. Sherry
  17. Probably not his issue, but my dd's doctor was stumped with her issues until we went on vacation and left her omega 3 gummies behind. Her symptoms cleared up. Chia seeds (Salvia hispanica) were the problem. Sorbitol (in sugar free gum) will also give her terrible symptoms. Just in case it's that simple....
  18. Ack! I had the title wrong. It's The Discovery of Deduction: An Introduction to Formal Logic by Classical Academic Press.
  19. Clarifying...I'm wondering if Discovering Deduction covers as much as TL 1 or TL 1&2?
