  1. My dd is talking this class right now and studying for the semester final. She really struggles with the tests, and I'm not sure how to help her. She has difficulty seeing the big picture and how events relate- which is what these test are all about. I'd appreciate any advice on how to help her. I don't know the info, don't see the lectures, and feel very out of the loop. How have you handled this class if your child has struggled at all?
  2. Can parents access the assignments and feedback through the blackboard? I'm finding it difficult to support my dd when I can't see the submissions. Am I missing something? Are you accessing the corrected papers through the student account? Thanks!
  3. If this is correct, the confirming score is a national score - not an individually determined score. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/national-merit-scholarships/994755-sat-score-needed-confirm-psat.html
  4. Thanks for confirming. I was just hoping I was missing something... I searched confirming SAT scores and am feeling reassured that he's likely to be OK even if he doesn't get his best score. And there's always the December test.:tongue_smilie:.
  5. Can anyone confirm that National Merit semi-finalists have to take the SAT instead of the ACT to apply. I've not seen anything in the paperwork, but I'm hoping... Ds took ACT already and will take the SAT next weekend, but it's really not a good time for him. Thanks, Sherry
  6. Oh wait, I just read more carefully. I had just seen the shrinking warnings. OK, they may get out of shape or get baggy. Hmmm.... So it can be done! Mycrazyhouse has done it for years! :) Thanks everyone.
  7. I'll let him know and let him decide. So what is the difference between sweaters that can go in the dryer and those that can't? I have two sweaters that are tumble dry.
  8. Well, I don't do his laundry, he's commuting to college and barely home, and he's a grab and go guy. I'm hoping someone here knows if it will destroy them, or if they will probably be OK. Then he can decide if he wants to deal with them or return them for easier care items.
  9. Ds just brought home some sweaters that say to dry flat. LOL! That's not gonna happen. They are cotton/polyester- one is all cotton, and they were pretty cheap. What will happen if they are thrown into the dryer with all his other clothes? :D
  10. Does anyone know when this will be ready and if SWB will be making some weeks available before then as she did with WWS 1? Thanks!
  11. I dislike Como zoo. Maybe there have been updates since I've been there, but when I was last there it was...sad. Animals are enclosed in small, boring spaces. The poor Zebra is in a dark, concrete room. It must have outside space, but every time I've been there it's been standing in a dark, stinky room. Big cats and gorillas are in small spaces (with toys and stuff, but still...). Shudder. Lots of people like it though... The conservatory is really cool.:001_smile:
  12. I'm searching for a yoga dvd mentioned here and cannot find it:toetap05: It is only available through the instructor's site and is from Canada. Does anyone remember this? Sherry
  13. I'm open to any more suggestions. I'm making a library list for those I don't buy. Thanks!
  14. Kareni, This sounds perfect for my daughter. Un Lun Dun also looks great. Thanks!
  15. Peterson and Aspirin are new to me- I'll check them out. Thanks!
  16. I'm looking for gift ideas for my daughter. She's read, reread, and loved all of Terry Pratchett's books. Any ideas? Thanks!
  17. OK, that's helpful to compare the two. Ds has an audition coming up- I'll make my decision when that's settled. Thanks again!
  18. Would you consider both volume 1 & 2 equal to 1 credit of physics? I still haven't decided what to do. Ds would enjoy Knight more, but he's got a busy semester. And, he works much better with a set plan which Apologia would provide. Thanks regentrude and Teachin'Mine.
  19. Here's an article from Kidpower about teaching personal safety to kids. http://www.kidpower.org/resources/articles/safety-tips-sexual-abuse.html
  20. I'm debating physics options for my 11th grade son. Is College Physics by Knight a good text for self-teaching? Are there full solutions in the text? What have you used for labs? I'm leaning toward Apologia because it's easy to use, but my son doesn't like Apologia (Bio and Chem). I need a 'get er done' option though, and I can't help him with Physics. Thanks! Sherry
  21. My ds prefers texts to video, so Apologia would work better for him. I'll keep DIVE in mind for my younger kids though. Thanks!
  22. Would it work to jump into this text without doing Apologia Physics first? Does it review the concepts taught in the first book? I'm assuming it does not review thoroughly enough... This would be for an junior that has a conceptual knowledge base. I'm looking for a challenging algebra based text that has complete solutions. Thoughts? Sherry
