Could dc read through them in 6th grade, do outlining, narrations, etc., have that for history? Thanks -
how do you stay motivated? My dd's friend (same age/grade) is attending a top private school in our area. We were talking about her school day and interests and her school subjects are all excellent, accelerated, and she is loving it. I am just wondering - should I put my dd in this school? Would she learn more with teachers who specialize in certain areas? For example, we struggle with writing. Her PS friends are doing MUCH BETTER with their writing. I have read samples of their work and it is really very good. My dd struggles. They attribute the great writing to a certain teacher who was amazing and made them all love writing. My dd could have been in that class. She is as smart as her friends. She would probably be better off. In math, I have to work hard at understanding some things before I can even teach her. If she had a math teacher who was really good at math, the teacher could make her understand math better than I can. I feel discouraged about my choice because I am afraid that I do not know enough to be the great teacher she deserves. I do work on being a good teacher and I do not have lots of spare time to prep more than I already do. I am thinking that I may be holding my dd back from getting the best teaching she can get. Anyone have any words of wisdom?

I have poor circulation and with each pregnancy, the veins in my legs got worse. None of the leg veins work properly and I have a lot of pooling of blood at my left ankle and visible varicose veins in both legs. I have been gone to two vascular surgeons and both have shut down faulty veins - six in all. But, my left leg is actually worse. It hurts all of the time, gets crampy, and is now swelling at the ankle. I started all of this because of the pain and cramping. Now I have more pain, cramping, and swelling. I am getting really worried and feel very discouraged that I will ever be pain-free (8 years now). Does anyone have any ideas, experiences, knowledge to share with me? Thanks.

My dc want to spend the entire day reading from their assigned reading. They argue that our regular routine does not allow for more reading time, so, they want to take the day to read, read, read. I can count this as school, right? We will get back to the other subjects tomorrow. Do I have the board's permission?

A. Read only as much as you can before your next scheduled lesson then stop and move on. B. Read all of it and stay on that topic until it is done. Then go on. C. Keep plugging away at both the readings and history chapters even if they stop coinciding because the additional reading is taking so long. We are in this predicament right now. I want to move on to the next topic - Civil War - but we have not finished the additional readings (SOTW4) that come before it: The Jungle Book, The Little Princess, Pinochio, etc. The dc want to read these, but, of course, there is tons to read for the Civil War as well. What do I do? Thanks.

do I do with 11th and 12th grade? If we keep plugging along, my eldest dd wil get 2, rather than 3, rounds of chronological history and will only have 11th and 12th grade left at that point. What would I do for the two years? I will not have time for another round so what should I focus on? Does a Great Books study take the place of history? Should I focus on American History and Government for two years? Should we pick one period in history and become "experts"? I am definitely getting ahead of myself, but am trying to create a BIG PICTURE for us. Thanks.

I appreciate the info.

My dh gets every super hero: Superman, Batman, Mr. Incredible, Buzz Lightyear, even Dick Tracy (depends on the commentor's age)! This happens on a regular basis. It is not unusual for us to have young ladies bat their eyelashes and tell him he looks just like a super hero. :glare: I get Sandra Bullock, Anne Hathaway, a young Jackie O, and sometimes Elastigirl...:D

We'll the travel thread got to me and we're off, to Savannah and Hilton Head. I want to anything Civil War, great museums, neat outdoor activities, and yummy low-country food. Please, if you have any specifics for Savannah/Hilton Head/environs, please share! Many thanks.

My dd/10 grade 5 says that she knows almost all of the math in R&S5 and thinks she can just read through the chapters, pick out the problems she needs to learn about, and then take the tests rather than doing assignments each day. I think if she can get an "A" on the tests that maybe she is right and doesn't need to do repetative work. What do you think? Is R&S math on grade level? Should I let her speed through this and move on to R&S6? Thanks.

Our book wants us to translate "We can" but we cannot (get it?:)) find the verb "can" anywhere. Thanks.

What's the BEST your state or city have to offer?
dorothy replied to dorothy's topic in General Education Discussion Board
These are great to read. My wanderlust is being fed. I may show up on someone's porch soon. -
What are the must-dos, the must-sees, the most interesting experiences? Include favorite activities, places to eat, events, etc. I hope all 50 states will chime in. I'd love to learn about your states/cities and dream of going there some day. Please post!! :) Please specify what state/area you are posting about - maybe you'd like to post about a state you grew up in or once lived in.
