  1. I'd go with yellow pumps & some chunky big yellow "pearls"
  2. Inflammation comes to mind. Often when I over do it on processed foods and not enough fresh fruits and veggies I steady to notice very similar symptoms.
  3. Oh my gosh! That link was from before I came around these parts. I have two boys and I'm married to an over grown one. I just literallly almost pee'd my pants because I was laughing so hard!!! My boys wanted to know what was so funny, but I'm afraid to tell them ~ for fear it may happen here!!
  4. Oh dear! I must have misread the TG. Poor DS, no wonder he's bored! :tongue_smilie:
  5. I bought AAS 1 for my older son. He is a strong reader, and his spelling is decent, but not as strong as I'd like (he'd be doing fine in PS, though) :glare: We're stuck on step 1 becasue of the vowels. He's spot on with the consonants, and can get the basic short & long sounds of the vowels, but the other vowels sounds stump him. He'll get them eventually, but he's not getting them BOOM, BOOM, BOOM as soon as I pull the card out (as the TG suggests he needs to do before moving on). He's getting very bored. He wants to move on with the rest of the lessons. Because he's older and has some spelling experience, I'm inclined to let him move forward and just continue reviewing the vowel sounds every day. For those that have used AAS, does this sound like an OK plan?
  6. Thanks all! My younger son is beyond the AAR PreLevel 1 and I already have AAS 1 for my older son. I have ETC A,B, & C but even those may be slightly beneath him right now. I can't decide if I should continue on to ETC 1 or just start him on AAS 1 and use that as a reading program also.....:001_huh:
  7. I posted on FB last night "Day one was such a success I think we'll do it again tomorrow" :D Here's to us all!
  8. :iagree: I have the book "The New Rules of Lifting for Women" and I love it, but it's some what intense and I wouldn't recommend it for someone with special circumstances such as yours. There are various types of yoga and some really focus on strength, you could look to see if you can find a yoga studio in your area and talk to the yogi.
  9. Has anyone here used AAS to teach reading?
  10. We contract it out :D My kids take lessons at a local art studio 1x per week.
  11. DS had a little boy in his K class named "Kyden" but it was pronounced KAYden. I think the mom forgot a vowel....
  12. My son does have some speech delays and has been diagnosed with speech apraxia. Today as we were working on rhymes, I did wonder if his struggles were related....
  13. Thanks for sharing! I can't wait to look it over. My DH is an airline pilot, flying large jets out of Boston, 9/11 is something we think about every time my husband walks out the door. My oldest knows quite a bit about that day, but we've really censored what my youngest hears.
  14. :bigear: I'll be watching this as my DS (6) also seems to struggle a bit with rhyming. It's the last thing he needs to conquer on the "reading readiness" checklist....
  15. Today was our first official day of the new school year. I was so nervous, but it went really well. I'm so excited about this year that I even dusted off an old old blog of mine that I plan to use as a journal of our adventrues :D You can find it here.
  16. Personally, I'm fascinated by the electoral college ~ why it was implemented, whether or not it's still relevant, does the 24 hour news generation we live in change it's relevance? What are some other alternatives? (one person - one vote?/ break up electoral votes by congressional district (so the state's votes are split, not all or nothing as they are now)) etc...
  17. :smilielol5: HA! :smilielol5: EW, gah, gross!! However, knowing my youngest, he'll ask!
  18. My kids are going to eat this stuff up!
  19. No, SOTW. I was planning to just use the Usborne Encyclopedia of World History and supplement with library books, but at the last minute we decided to use SOTW and use the Usborne book as supplement.
  20. My husband cringed when I told him I was making yet another last minute curriculum change and it involved buying more books. Then I told him he gets to mummify a chicken with the boys. He asked "when can we start?!?!" :D
  21. Hmmm, I had to google that one! LOL! No, we're going to Maryhill Museum here in WA state. It's an (almost) exact replica of the original Stonehenge (but made out of concrete because local rock turned out to be unsuitable). It was dedicated to the sailors and soldiers of WWI.
  22. layer graham crackers (whole crackers) on the bottom of a 9x13, top with vanilla pudding, graham crackers on top, more vanilla pudding, another layer of graham crackers, heat up some chocolate icing and pour it over the crackers. Let cool ~ it's like a bostom cream pie. We *love* this!
  23. We are starting AAR (Pre Level 1) this year and to be honest, I wish I'd either waited until Level 1 was ready or had just gone with Explode the Code. It looks like it's going to be a great program, but the Pre Level 1 is beneath my son (he'll be six this month) and he's going to get bored early on. The last time I was at their website, Level 1 wasn't available yet, so I'll probably be ordering ETC sometime this week.
  24. Yes we do! I'll have to look for it. I thought I looked the other night and only found one for mailing. I'll look again. Thanks! (my boys *love* National Geo)
  25. Well, my history lesson for this week is already changed :glare: There is a replica of Stonehenge in our state (I believe it's the only one in the world??) and we're planning on driving the long way to my in laws house this weekend (about an hour out of our way) to go see it. I looked up Stonehenge in our Encyclopedia and I have the website for the place we'll be going (You can see it here), but I'd like to do some more with my boys to get them excited about it. Thoughts? Suggestions? I didn't have time to research this and put anything together as it's a last minute addition to our trip!
