  1. @beaner18: how do you become a member of the magic school bus science club? I googled it! Found it! :)
  2. I would call the company and ask them. They are very very helpful. Sorry, I hope this helps.
  3. I love my Fire as a reader and to have beside my bed at night to read and it fits in my purse. But I LOVE my iPad. It's so much easier to watch movies, play apps, google educational info for the kids. I'm typing this from my iPad. :)
  4. What a timely post....my 7th grade dd just ran out of the room crying because of fractions :( We have LOF fractions, Math Mammoth. She's currently doing TT7 and using Khan Academy as backup...she still can't get it. And, I was looking up reviews on MUS Epsilon when I came across your post....sigh. I sympathize with you. HUG
  5. Thank you everyone! I really appreciate the responses & the wisdom of everyone in this community.
  6. My 13 Yr old dd hears her school friends talk about what they they are learning in Science and now wants a formal Science curriculum. It is so late in the school year but we could extend the Science portion. Anybody have a suggestion besides the library. We live in a small rural area so our library is not exactly stellar. Something with a lesson plan? Open and go? Time4Learning does not have a 7th grade Science. We have a subscription to The Happy Scientist but find the website hard to navigate. Any MFW Science users? Thank you.
  7. Sounds lovely! I, also, have been trying to get more relaxed & use some living books.
  8. Wow...misery loves company! LOL  Seriously, it is comforting knowing I'm not alone....maybe it is an age/puberty thing?? I like the suggestions of multi-vitamin, enough sleep, tummy full, enrolling in school (just kidding...no I'm not...ok, partly kidding but I won't really do it). Yes, I have also curriculum hopped to appease her. Thanks for posting that because I was feeling pretty weak so glad to see I'm not alone. Very well said..."let her attitude be hers." Thanks for sharing. I do feel better & I think all your posts, whether you posted a solution or just empathy, has helped me. Thank you and God bless.
  9. My 2nd year into our homeschooling journey. My 13 year old dd whines about doing her Math, doing her English....blah blah blah. I work full-time from home, she has 2 siblings that I also homeschool, my extended family completely stressed me out during the holidays so I'm glad the holidays are over, and we just found out that my husband may have some kidney problems...Ugh. Anyway...I'm really considering enrolling her for 8th grade with Mother of Divine Grace so she's accountable to someone else....I don't want to do her lesson planning anymore & she needs to answer to someone else besides me...I'm tired. Yes, she may be acting like this because of puberty or extended family tension or whatever but I think she will try harder for someone else. She does very well with Time4writing classes but disliked Homeschool Connections, she did not like sitting & listening to an hour long lecture. I'm not too happy about adhering to a regular school schedule or someone else's time frame....one of the reasons that attracted me to homeschooling was that we were on our time schedule that fits best with our family. Anyway...can someone tell me if they had a similar problem and how they handled it? Benefits of enrolling with MODG vs just using their syllabus? Were you happy with MODG enrollment & counselor? Thank you for "listening" to me vent. God bless.
  10. We are considering enrolling our 7th dd in MODG for 8th grade but I hate to have to follow a traditional school schedule. Can MODG be modified to do year round WITH enrollment? I know with Kolbe you have one full year. I have mixed feelings about a counselor checking up on us.... Who assigns more book reports and essays? I think using living books for learning will really benefit dd which I believe is how MODG is set up. Does Kolbe use living books? Any huge differences between these schools? Ty and God bless.
  11. Hi. We are eclectic and also use CHC for 2nd 3rd & 7th grade, we also used them last year. I LOVE their books, they are so Catholic & mom/kid-friendly, the Teacher's Manuals are built right in. They are spiral bound so they lay flat...love it. They are thoroughly Catholic in everything but there's no overkill. Some get concerned that they're too gentle but IMO they are very complete and thorough. We love getting finished early so we can pursue other interests. In the 7th grade level there's quite a bit of writing and reading the lives of Saints. The lesson plans are beautifully laid out on a 4 day week schedule for the younger grades. The customer service is superb & they always answer their emails. You can email them or call them & they are always happy to help. I returned the 7th grade Science and was refunded with no problem. That is probably my only dislike, their Science for 7th grade and above. For lower grades they use Behold & See, they are beautiful Science books written by a Catholic author. There's hand on projects & crafts. If they were an actual school like Kolbe, I would be in heaven. :) My kids are enrolled with Kolbe for the transcript (I panicked) but I haven't used any of their curriculum, I planned on substituting with CHC and other materials. At this point, I'm actually looking at MODG or Kolbe for 8th grade because my dd needs to be accountable to someone else but if I do enroll with Kolbe I will probably substitute with CHC books. I hope this helps. :)
  12. That's very encouraging! Congrats to your daughter & thanks for sharing.
  13. I get it, the problem starts if they want to go back to ps after 9th grade. Once you start HS HS you better be prepared to see it all the way through. I noticed a post that even with Keystone, the ps doesn't have to accept the credits. I went to a private Christian non-accredited school for 9th & 10th grade then I decided to go back to the local PS. They did not accept my credits & wanted me to test out or repeat those grades. However, a smaller ps 15mi away took all my credits with no problems. This was back in 1986.
  14. For my 7th grade dd, we are trying to decide if to do Keystone or American School for high school and contemplating doing Keystone for 8th grade. I don't really want to lose our freedom of curriculum choices by using these schools. I mean, that's why we homeschool so I can adapt the curriculum to the child's learning style. Accreditation...I can take it or leave it....we are still undecided about it since colleges don't really care. Ideally, I would like to pick and choose courses from different online schools and make my own homeschool transcript & diploma. I live in Oklahoma where the laws are VERY relaxed. If she takes courses from different accredited schools, can I put that on the transcript? Make a notation that this class was taken with Seton, American School, Keystone, etc. Should I make that notation? Are there schools that for a fee will help me build a transcript without taking their classes? Thank you.
  15. Ok, this post kind of freaks me out since my 7th grade dd may want to go back to PS in 9th grade. Maybe we better think about doing Keystone for 8th grade. Luckily, we live in Oklahoma where the is no required annual testing. Good info on this thread. I'm sorry for all the trouble you are having. I hope your daughter doesn't have to go back to 9th grade, that could really blow her self-esteem. Best wishes.
  16. Yes, we are taking the whole week off even though we didn't start school until September. I NEED A BREAK!!
  17. I just ordered "Addition the Fun Way", for my 8 yr old son. Thanks!
  18. YUCK!!! I'm sorry. On the bright side, you only ate 1 apple fritter! I would of eaten a dozen! BIG HUG
