  1. This is one of the reasons why I like the "classic" YNAB, and I really don't want to switch to the new YNAB. The other reason is that we purchased the classic YNAB as a one-time expense. I really hate the subscription concept to continually pay for software. I'm looking for a replacement now for classic YNAB...

Dave Ramsey has a new one. Everydollar I think. I used it for a few months but had some of the same problems quill mentioned.

We've been happy with Every Dollar. It's simple so we actually use it and free!

  2. In size L. My ds is almost 6'4 and needs the length in "tall" shirts. He really likes geek type of shirts. I found him one last summer from Macy's online but haven't seen anything since then.

Lately, I've been buying him TL shirts in slim-fit design online from Old Navy. He has been wearing Old Navy button-downs and the shirts fit well. Unfortunately, he doesn't care for many of the Old Navy T-shirts.

Where else can I look for t-shirts?

  3. We have, and really enjoy, homeschool in the woods timeline.

    http://www.homeschoolinthewoods.com/timelinematerials.html

We paired it with their cd of timeline figures and it's fantastic. It's a little pricey but it was a good investment for us.

We have this timeline book and like it a lot too.

This year, we're studying 1900s+ history. I bought a used book with short descriptions and photos. My dd is cutting the photos out (yes, you can do that if you own the book!) after we read and putting them on the timeline.

I also put in tiny photos of the kids' art and field trips that go along with specific time periods.

  4. I still feel grateful that very early in my homeschool career, a discussion on the FIAR forums got me thinking about the need to plan for a post-homeschool life ( which obviously doesn't have to mean paid employment, but does, for a lot of us.)

I think it was Steve Lambert, actually, who started that discussion. And good on him - it's the best bit of homeschool advice I've ever been given.

I was there for that discussion! It was very powerful, and I took it to heart. I started working very, very part-time to build my resume. I'm so grateful, especially as I look at needing to work full-time when my dd graduates.

  5. I would love to take full responsibility for this, but I can't.  It is a group of friends and we do all try to get along.  Me being a hard-*ss just makes me the bad guy.

The best I can do it stop being the planner.  I am not wiling to have people mad at me over what is meant to be a fun social event.

But is it fair for them to put you through this stress? Why do you have to carry the burden? I like the idea of letting them add themselves by calling the restaurant if they can make it.

  6. We talked about it in a matter-of-fact way, that some people post pictures of n*ked bodies online.

We taught them not to try to "click" away from the screen as it can open up other screens/photos. We told them to close the laptop or walk away from the computer immediately (and they wouldn't get into trouble). We talked about telling friends to put it away, but haven't run into that yet. We talked about how we use filters. All kinds of things we shouldn't ever have to talk about. Sigh.
