  1. So, you might consider going subject by subject.

I would choose Teaching Textbooks math over SOS. It is DVD based but there is a workbook. You can't do math without paper.

For English consider Excellence in Literature. It is available in PDF form and covers both literature and writing. Almost all the books needed can be downloaded to a computer or other ereader (phone, iPad etc)

For Science, what about Apologia full course CDs? They have Biology, Chemistry and Physics with everything (including the textbook) on one CD (one per course that is). There is a separate test/answer key CD, so it is actually 2 CDs.

I agree with these 3 recommendations. Teaching Textbooks is a CDrom program which auto corrects the problems as the student works and tracks grades in a parent section. The workbook is optional. Both of my dc use plain paper to do their problems.

Excellence in Literature on pdf and ebooks is an excellent English program.

I didn't realize Apologia offered the textbook on CD. Great option!

  2. We've used ClearPlay DVD for 7-8 years and have had 2 of their DVD players. The process became more streamlined between the two players we've used and the one we still have is pretty old.

I highly recommend it! It has been fabulous to watch trendy movies and television as a family and filter out what we don't want to see or hear. (We've just had to be careful about what we recommend to friends as it has allowed us to watch shows we NEVER would have watched without the filtering.) It has also been nice to be able to lessen the filter settings as my dc have gotten older as we're not usually worried about the violence level anymore but can still keep stronger filtering of s*x scenes so we never see those.

I imagine the new players are even better. Streaming would be wonderful! I think you should definitely give it a try.

  3. My parents have jumped on the bandwagon. They haven't read the book but did enjoy hearing about our "tidying adventure". They removed all the books from two book shelves and donated enough to just keep one of the book shelves. They've cleared out an entire closet to sort through and condensed the remaining items into another closet.

  4. I find that I prefer texting much more now that I have a smartphone, not only because it's easier to text on than my old flip phone, but mostly because the quality of sound on the smartphone is terrible! So many advances with phones and they can't get better at the actual "phone" part?

  5. If you want inexpensive, I really suggest you try Rimmel's Stay Matte "liquid mousse foundation".  I'm pretty sure I got it based on Paula's Beautypedia review and I am sold on it.  Now, I do not use it exclusively; I add a dab of tinted moisturizer to my sponge with a little squirt of the Rimmel and it's perfect.  I think the Light Ivory is pretty pale and that's another reason I pair it with something else because it's too light alone for me.  (There is one lighter than that, too, called Light Porcelain that might work for you.)

You can see how light it goes on their site!  http://us.rimmellondon.com/products/face/stay-matte-liquid-mousse-foundation

I use this too! I smooth it on with my finger as I need a little heavier coverage. It's an excellent product and a good match for fair skin.

  6. How has tidying the KonMari way magically changed your life?

When I'm finished tidying, I will let you know how it changes mine :hat:

Applying this method helps me to see what I want to add to my wardrobe. While I don't have many clothes, I wear and like them all. I have about 1/2 the clothes I did before so my closet has more room. I hung a beautiful jewelry hanger in my closet so I can see my necklaces. I actually wear them now!

This is different than de-cluttering because everything will have a place. For example, I realized we had batteries in 3 different locations so I never knew what we had on hand. By condensing those into one "spot", I now know when we are running low so I can purchase more.

Our daily life is less stressful because the house stays picked up. Our living room is a joy to read in because we don't have anything out. All of us like hanging out there!

Just today, I discovered I printed photos for 2 years that I had already printed. I easily threw the extra photos away. I have printed copies, online copies, and CDs of the photos at my parents in case of a fire. I didn't need to keep them. Go me!

I find I purchase what I need verses what's a good deal in case...It's freeing to lead a more simple life.

  7. We've been without cable for many years. We used a Roku with Amazon Prime, Netflix streaming, and purchased shows we wanted from Amazon. Two years ago we added an HD antenna.

We recently signed up for SlingTV. It rocks! For $20/month, we have ESPN, ESPN 2, Food Network, HGTV, TNT, Disney and more. It's a nice compromise giving my dh some sports and the girls in the family Project Runway, Dance Moms, and Food Network Star.

We're thinking of dropping Amazon Prime this year and just keeping Netflix and SlingTV.

  8. I have my dd's shopping finished. She loves clothes so I picked up stuff on clearance at the beginning of the year. Unfortunately, she hasn't grown much, so while all her new clothes should fit her so should everything else still in her closet!

My ds wants money and a Mental Floss magazine renewal. I picked up a couple of small things so he's all set.

We give my parents a much wanted photo calendar each Christmas and the in-laws a DVD of our year along with Kindle books, so not much planning involved there. :)

I think the following Christmas, we'll plan to a trip and see a Broadway touring show.

  9. I'm not really a knick knack person but I do like to decorate for the holidays. I switch out the art on my walls. I frame the kids' art and now have pieces for fall, summer, 4th of July, Easter, and Christmas. I also put out several photos when the kids were little at Christmas or 4th of July, etc. It's an easy way to decorate yet maintain our comfortable/minimal look. :)

  10. We set goals each semester. They may be academic or something like learn to drive. If I find we don't have enough time, I keep everything related to our goals then let go of the "least" of the best. It has worked well when the kids were young and continues to work well with teens.

  11. I think that's a strong storage solution. I use it too including the usb drives.

Shutterfly has a new app called That's Life. It'll automatically transfer all your photos from Shutterfly so you can download them anytime. Plus, it's a pretty way to look at your photos in a timeline, especially if you don't upload to a social media site like Facebook.
