My dd's planning to take to a party:
deviled eggs
Muddy buddies made with coconut oil and Ghiredelli semi-sweet chips (I always get compliments when I make them this way)

It definitely sounds like a food allergy. You need to get to a doctor and carry an epi-pen in case it ever happens again. Sorry you had such a scare. I'm thankful it wasn't a worse reaction.

I also print out emails. I'm mostly a minimalist so I have plenty of room save them. ;)

Congratulations! :hurray:

So get a paperwhite even with all the thousands of books I can get on the iPad?? I agree that the weight of an iPad is restrictive not to mention the very low battery life. And just now my dh was mentioning there's around 50 Dr. Suess books alone that we can get on our iPad right now if my dd wanted to read any of them. I soooo wish this publisher had a kindle app!
Yes, because you can read different books. And for all the other reasons mentioned...especially the "turn off wifi/fabulous battery life" of the Kindle Paperwhite! :)

We had our dd wait until she was 12 to read the books and watch the movies. We're having her wait even longer to read Twilight, another book series she wants to read, due to the intensity of the relationships.

Sure. I'm trying to figure out how to attach a picture. I can send you the story I wrote to go along with the figures. We made our figures out of wool felt but you could make them in any style you prefer.
Your nativity set is beautiful Tammi! I'd like to make one like it someday.
We started with simple stickers on colored blocks for a preschooler in the neighborhood: http://lookwhaterinmade.blogspot.com/search?updated-min=2010-01-01T00:00:00-06:00&updated-max=2011-01-01T00:00:00-06:00&max-results=24

:hurray: Sounds like you handled that beautifully! Congrats!

First, if you haven't already, ask your dc what they'd like to do. Sometimes old traditions are revived this way. I keep a list each year after Christmas of what I want to make sure to do the following year. My list for 2015 includes read Christmas books for ds. He mentioned last year that we didn't do that. We'll be reading Christmas picture books all season and he'll be 17 in January.
Some other things on my list that we are continuing with teens:
alternating Jotham's Journey, Bartholomew's Passage, and Tabitha's Travels for devotionals each year
celebrating St. Nicholas Day on Dec. 6th with small gifts and gingerbread
putting together plastic bags of change with tags to put on vending machines for Random Acts of Christmas Kindness
buying generic Christmas cards and putting gift cards in to give as we feel led by the Holy Spirit (people we see out and about)
painting Christmas ornaments with grandma
matching Christmas PJs
making Christmas toffee
leave nativity set piece each night at neighbor with little kids' door with baby Jesus arriving last
My dd already told us without prompting that she's looking forward to decorating outside for Christmas, baking cookies, and going Christmas caroling.
Last year, for my dd's December birthday, we played Christmas Minute to Win It games. I can see these becoming a tradition! http://happyhomefairy.com/2013/12/23/christmas-minute-to-win-it-game-ideas/
I hope you get lots of good ideas!

We do a photo card each year as my family members in another state really enjoy it. I also keep a Christmas scrapbook of each one so we can see our family at Christmastime through the years. I used to hand out cards to local friends but I may just mail them this year to out of town folks to save money.

You said this, "My decluttering expert side, though, gets annoyed about things sitting around serving no purpose and not benefitting or bringing joy to anyone." But obviously, the gown brings you some joy, just having it, so I think you should keep it.

My dd loves it. She got a ring similar to this last year: http://www.amazon.com/Once-Peridot-Zircon-Diamond-White/dp/B01510K6HA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1446662398&sr=8-1&keywords=once+upon+a+time+ring for Christmas. :)

That is so interesting!

I would disagree about only using it in dire situations.
My brother-in-law uses it every night to sleep.
A friend uses it occasionally for anxiety.
Another friend uses it to help her with PMS nightmares.
They all have been fine using it as prescribed for many years.

We have a Scion XB that all of us enjoy riding in and driving more than my parent's Ford Escape. My ds is almost 6'4" and prefers the leg room in the Scion. You may want to look at one as even the price new is reasonable. It has a Camry engine, feels like a small SUV inside, but drives like a zippy car. We love it!

I'd be tempted to save the money to pay cash for a new house for myself when I was ready to move. If your daughter is a slob and you're thinking of exterminators then she isn't a good tenant for a rental.

Send picture books that you read aloud on CD or some sort of recorder. My brother did this for my dc when they were young and my dd just recently listened to them again at age 13! They are treasured. He did nice things like talked to them by name describing an illustration and made a funny ding sound to help them turn the pages.

One of the things we did at that age was pay for training. Our dc knew that once they learned the skill it would become part of their chores (or rotated, etc.) but while they were learning they were earning money. That way, I didn't feel bad showing them several times how to do things or making them go back to fix mistakes. They enjoyed the process because they enjoyed the money. It worked well for us. :)

Thanks Jaz. We've just got home from a fun trip to Europe. I was thinking more about the scholarly side of things :-)
Ah, excellent!
I hope Windows to the World from your other thread works out for you. We covered the first five chapters and are now taking a break until January. My ds wrote a literary paper and was able to understand when I told him he hadn't given me enough analysis. It's a great program.

I think I'd be tempted to do something fun and magical that could create life-long memories - start a novel, write music, make videos, travel, create art, work on a big project, volunteer, master a new technique, conquer an outdoor adventure, etc.
I hope you both enjoy your last 8 weeks of homeschooling together!
