  1. Out of curiosity, is there any rhyme or reason to the frequency w/ which Mrs. Drown releases new lessons? I mean, can one assume that every so often (once/month or once every 5 mths) she'll release new material? Or is it completely arbitrary?? Also, how much longer are you spending on your LL2 lessons when compared w/ LL1? Does 5 lessons== 10 weeks of material or more? I really do appreciate your help, one and all.... thanks os much!
  2. Thank you, thank you, thank you ladies! Abbey-- I'm considering LP (or perhaps LFC B), so I really appreciate our reply. I've been wondering whether or not ds could handle it; I'm glad to know (based on ds's experience w/ LL) that LP is a viable option. Soph-- thank you *so* much for your feedback re: LL2. I've emailed Catherine Drown w/ my concerns but haven't heard back from her. I'm *so* glad to know that catching up w/ her shouldn't be a concern (as that's my main one, lol!). Again... thanks!
  3. I'm torn over my latin choices and would *love* some advice: ds 10 (4th/5th gr level) has 2 more lessons in Lively Latin 1 (we only do the latin parts, not the history). While I've thoroughly enjoyed this resource, I'm concerned about LL2-- my understanding is that only the first 5 lessons have been released thus far. I'd HATE to get into a situation where we catch up to the author and then end up sitting around, waiting for her to release more. So what are my options?? Latin Prep? LFC B? We jumped ship from LC1 (ds was bored out of his mind) before starting LL so I don't think I want to go that route again. As much as I hate hopping from curriculum to curriculum, I'd rather have a solid, *available* resource as latin studies are very important to me. So, what would you do??
  4. Bump :) (I'm just starting to think about 5th grade and would *love* to hear the thoughts of others!)
  5. I'm in today w/ a snapshot of my youngest son... wearing a look on his face that I see all too often :)
  6. Thanks so much ladies for all your thoughtful responses-- I'll definitely look into all these options. You've been extremely helpful!
  7. My boys are 8 & 10 and I'm looking for something we can do together, something we can discuss and analyze a bit, something with some real life application, as well. We've tried a slightly more independent approach, each doing their own thing, but I'm not thrilled with it... any ideas?
  8. I'm in this go round... I posted a snapshot of my youngest son-- trying to be patient-- as we waited for his older brothers' races at last weekend's swim meet.
  9. Mine's up... a few shots of my big boys on little toys :)
  10. I'm interested in the good, the bad and the ugly! Is it too much? Unnecessary? Or worth every penny, in your opinion? Any point of view would be greatly appreciated! Thanks~
  11. Aahhh... ELizabeth, that makes perfect sense! Thank you~ And thank you, Lisa, for your input, as well-- I think I'll go that route from now on :)
  12. Last night, I read in an on-line article that dry infant cereal w/ fruit (such as "Gerber's whole grain oatmeal with bananas") is nutritionally inferior to the plain whole-grain oatmeal/rice WITHOUT the bananas (or other fruit). Something to do w/ multiple ingredients vs. a single ingredient. Have any of you ever heard this?? I've been using the bananas variety b/c dd likes it better, but I don't want to feed her something that's nutritionally inadequate... Thanks!
  13. Thanks you guys... I appreciate your advice very much! Sometimes I just need to hear-- from somebody else, lol-- what I already know :)
  14. No, history just isn't happening here, lol. My homemade plans just fell by the wayside. And now I'm stuck-- there are only so many hours in the day, and unfortunately i've not mastered the art of schooling more than one w/ a baby and energetic 4 yo in tow beyond the basics. SO the boys read a lot of history on their own... but us together-- not happening right now. As for the latin, you make a good point-- thanks for pointing that out! I hope all is well on your end... I hear you about sweet & simple and all laid out!
  15. Ds (10) is almost through w/ LL1. He's done very well with it and we've enjoyed the program. All along, I assumed we'd just progress onto LL2 and then on to Henle. (As a note, we don't really do the history portions of Lively, just the language study, so losing that aspect of the program if we switched gears wouldn't be a problem for me). I've heard so many wonderful comments re: Latin Prep, though, I'm wondering if I should give that a shot. My end goal is not for my kids to be reading texts in the original language, but I do wish for them a very thorough, extensive latin foundation for all the other wonderful reasons. Have any of you dealt w/ a similar decision, or do any of you have any suggestions for me? Thanks!
  16. Mine's up... a little late, but it's up :o)
