  1. I only thought of that AFTER my whole message was lost in space somewhere. NOW I know that, but it might be nice if something was said somewhere about the possibility of being cut off and having an un-retrievable message??? Maybe there is, I just never saw it. Thanks for the sympathy, I need it right now! ;)
  2. I can't believe it! I was posting a list of books and things I have for sale. I am NOT a dealer, I just have been homeschooling for some time, so it was a LONG list. When I went to post it, it said I wasn't logged in anymore. So I logged in, and it went to a white screen. Now that post I spent so much time on is GONE! :banghead::crying::scared::thumbdown: That is soooo frustrating! How can that be prevented from here on out?! If I am busy typing, it shouldn't automatically log me out! And if it does log me out, it should certainly send me back to where I was!!! Waaaahhh! I'll get over it, I just think it's sooo not right!
  3. Yeah, that'd be great! Wonder if they've considered it? Yep, makes sense! I hope I didn't sound rude with my comment, I certainly didn't mean that! I was just going by what was said about parent writing it out and child copying it. I have never heard of PG handwriting. So this was a good day---I learned something new! :D Thankyou for your explanation!
  4. Yeah, I'm thinking the hands-on stuff will be remembered by my dd WAY longer than lots of reading in a big book! As she gets into highschool, she'll go deeper! I like, too, that it introduces names and concepts so when they DO get to highschool Chem., then College Chem. it won't seem so daunting to them, and I think they'll enjoy it more! Just mho obviously! :)
  5. My sister had her ds, her first, on MY Birthday! She had her 3rd on Super Bowl Sunday. My dh's dad and my dad have the same birth date, 6 years apart. His Mom and sister, and his parent's anniversary are all in January. My mom, brother and I were born in even years. My dad, sister, husband and all 3 of our kids were born in odd years. We got married on March 20. One of my bridesmaids and one of dh's groomsmen had March 20 B-days. My oldest was born (3 years later) on May 20. My cousin (one we are close to and see fairly often) had her youngest on my sister's B-day. My ds14 was born one day before my parents 50th Anniversary. Now, for my strangest ones: When we got married, I told my dh that I didn't want to have kids around Christmas or on April 1 (didn't want teasing about being a Fool!), that I didn't like the name Kevin (childhood bully) but thought the name Justin was cute. We had talked about those things to each other, but never with anyone else. DH's sister had two children before we had our first. Her first was born December 23rd. She named him Kevin. Her second was born April 1. She named him Justin!
  6. How is this lady doing now? I hope she has continued to improve! I am still praying!
  7. WOW! CONGRATULATIONS!!! I wish they'd have one of those auctions where we live! :)
  8. If you want worksheets/drills, you can Google those names and you'll come up with lots of stuff! Singapore could be good to work on certain skills. You could check that out. Or, you could go to a local store that carries workbooks, and find one that would have problems that would help your dd practice what she needs to work on. Hope you find what she needs!
  9. I was looking for a thread just like this one, or I was going to ask this same question! So thankyou, Penny, for asking it! :) And thankyou to everyone who answered! :thumbup1:
  10. So you felt Rainbow wasn't very deep? Too easy for 7th/8th? My dd loves experiments, that's why I'm thinking of it for her. It's hard to decide when you have so many good choices! :) Lori D. Thanks for the comparisons list!
  11. Where would I be able to find the AP Art History Course?
  12. Well, I'm biased, because, thought I WANTED it to work, and tried twice (a few years apart) to get it to work, Saxon never worked with my kids! :( We did TT Pre Algebra with dd and Algebra 1 with ds. They both did GREAT with it! It's maybe what you could say as not as advanced possibly as Saxon. But My kids loved the lecture and practice cd's and I loved having the complete solutions to every single question in the book and on the tests! Sometimes my kids would go over things quite a few times to understand the concept well. The cd's don't get frustrated with them for needing to do that, and nobody teases them for not understanding something! :) I really like TT, so do my kids!
  13. Me too! I can't believe how much stuff I have! I've actually sold some so I have room and enough $$ to get some more new stuff! :D
  14. So, clwcain, is PG for younger students? It sounds like it. If that's the case, maybe you (Kay) would want to go with PG for the younger ones and GD for the older one? My dd, just turned 11, has been using GD and absolutely LOVES it! She has beautiful handwriting now!
  15. Do the Spectrum Chemistry! Thanks to Maverick (THANKYOU!) talking about it, I sooo want to get it, just haven't been able to finalize it yet!
  16. http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/results.asp?WRD=conceptual+physics+9th+edition Are these the books you have?
  17. Somebody might shoot me down on this, but 87 seemed like a lot of drudgery and review. I know some people go from Saxon 76 to the Algebra 1/2. I don't know enough about Singapore to know how to answer that part. But if she's dreading Saxon, 87 may not be the way to go. Why is she not continuing with NEM or something Singapore since she loved it?
  18. This is all hearsay, from what I've read on here or other places because I don't have either, though I've looked online at both. So here's what I've heard: Apologia General Science seems to be one of the worst of their sciences in many people's opinions. Their other sciences get way better reports than the General. Rainbow Science I've heard nothing bad about yet. I loved the way it looked, and still am trying to decide if I can afford to get it for my dd, and the Spectrum Chem. for my ds! The Rainbow and Spectrum Chem. come with everything you need, and the lab stuff all measured out for each experiment. Sounds good to me! Someone else might have more personal experience with them, but thought I'd let you know what I've heard...
  19. We do math 2-3 times a week to keep the skills up. Like others have said, we also do a hodge-podge of other things depending on what needs more work. But it's not heavy work at all, just enough to catch up on other things, and keep up with math.
  20. We got our Dandy Lion books! Yay! :) I can't answer your last question Lillian, since we haven't started yet. But I'm gussing that varies from child to child, though maybe someone has a good estimate (I hope so, I'll be watching too! :) ).
  21. I don't know how the other programs work. We use R&S and it has proved to be very thorough and my kids love it! We do much of it orally, especially if I know they know the info. They love diagramming sentences too, so we will be sticking with R&S forever (as far as R&S goes), unless some problem crops up!
  22. Wow, this could've been written word for word by me!!! I used it with my boys for awhile, then we moved to A Beka, then we struggled, now we're using R&S! We LOVE R&S, it's worked wonders for my ds14 and dd11 for the last 2 years! They REALLY like English now, and both love diagramming---from two who hated it! The boys liked SG. In fact, they sometimes still say, "Period, statement, declarative sentence." :D But we are R&S fans now!
  23. Would you perhaps be willing to share that chart---or at least how you did it?
  24. We did the ITBS through Brewer Testing Company. We took our tests on March 31 and April 1, sent them in on April 3 and received them back on April 21! GREAT turn around! They're a good company to work with---small and friendly! Yeah, my kids are probably your average kid, but my just turned 11yo averaged about year 10.7 and my ds14 tested at mostly 13+. I agree, it shows where the US education system is these days!
