  1. I thought, but am not sure, you need to have a min. of 120 hrs to give a full credit. Maybe someone knows more.
  2. Although I have had my ring for over 10 years, it is my second. I lost the first mowing the yard. :D
  3. That is what we did. We set a goal of getting through each module in 2 weeks. But some took us longer because of all the math and a daughter who hates math. So anyway....Donna's lesson plans work quite well.
  4. My son feels the same call. Our pastor has taken him under his wing. Pastor is encouraging Trey to make good choices about the future (meaning college) as well as helping him prepare for a calling in the ministry. He gives Trey things to read then they discuss them together. He is also encouraging Trey to write sermons to share with the youth and children's classes. Trying to test the waters so Trey can see if this is really what he is called to. Maybe a pastor at your church could do the same thing with your son. Just a thought.
  5. I started following Dr Oz's diet plan last July. I had lost 45pounds. I still have 50 more to loose (Doctor said more. I just laughed at him.) It is just getting very frustrating. I am excercising, watching what I eat mostly, but still can't get more weight off. So if any of you have been in the same boat, send me your advice.
  6. Anything you can't live without should be placed somewhere easy to grab on the way out the door.
  7. Over and over again. Just to pull it out a million more times just to make sure I was on the right track.:D
  8. Try putting a petal on a flower everytime they are good. When the flower has 5 or 6 petals they get to pick a reward. This can easily be done with magnets on the fridge and would appear to others as artwork.
  9. I just let them run naked. They always loved it thinking they were getting away with something.
  10. Take it from me...if the book doesn't interest you, you will never be able to interest your kids in it. When I pick books to read aloud at home, the library or even church, I choose ones that are just above the age level I am reading to and have colorful, descriptive passages or evoke an emotional response. My husband starts reading the tough stuff to the kids like Donald Duck or Goofy. When the kids are hooked, I take over only to hand it back when they are drifting.
  11. If they are not making mistakes and understand the concepts let them work at their own pace. Eventuallly there will be times you will need to spend several days on one topic just to get the hang of it. On the spelling, follow the lessons sticking so they get the basics. But there is nothing wrong with some harder words with simmilar spelling patterns being added to challenge them.
  12. About the same. But they are free range so they eat more bugs than feed thank God!
  13. So is there somewhere online to find course outlines? Or can I just use what websites say about the programs we used?
  14. I tried this with my kids. My over-achiever enjoyed it. The other thought it was punishment. I had to let her do multiplication one day and addition the next. As she got better, she grew in confidence and enjoyed them more.
  15. I work at the public library part time. I actually encourage homeschool families to check out as many books as they can (10 per person). It does make a lot of work for me when they return the next week. But honestly it is well worth it when one of them comes and shares what they learned this week from a book they had checked out. The director of my library is thrilled with the increase in circulation since I assumed the children's librarian possition. I only recently found out there is a grant we recieve that increases with increased circulation.
  16. I was curious what others have discovered when applying to colleges. Do they want Course Descriptions? Did you include it just in case?
  17. So glad this topic came up. I was trying to figure out what to do with my son this next year. As good as he is in math, he just hated the Apologia chemistry.
  18. Quote: Just science, or a bit of all subjects? YES! :iagree: Integrate the other content areas where you are able to. It helps kids to remember what they are learning. Good luck! I cannot wait to see the end result.
  19. I had found one at http://www.covenant.edu/admissions/trad/adm/home/hs_guidelines.php and played with it this weeked. It looks OK, but I think I like the one you suggested more. And it sure was less complicated than the one in Homeschool High School. On the "Grading Scale", I just list what was required for the assigned grade and then just a number in the "Number of Credits Earned", correct? I don't know why I am fretting so. Dd wants nothing to do with traditional college and the Bible college she is going to doesn't even require a transcript. Maybe when she gets back she will have decided to go to college and I will have her transcript ready.
