  1. Awesome! She looks so happy! I am the Primary Music Chorister (for the past seven years!) and I love watching them grow up and learn. Right now we have five sunbeams and of the four older ones, 3 are will be moving up within the next year...I attended the baptism of all of them so far that I've taught and then attended the temple as a chaperone with the others who came of age and wanted to go :D. I love the youth. (I also am the Camp Director-3 years now- so I get to see the girls each year and watch them progress).

  2. We paint cabinets a lot. I like to first go over them with Kilz, then you can use any color you want! I have used a good brush when I did my own at home and it still looked fantastic! Have fun! Also, we just painted our new office kitchen with a very shiny black. It is just gorgeous. The office is actually a 1985 ranch home and the cabinetes were golden oak. The counters are now granite and the floor is tile. I want to move in but ... we need an office.

Do you just use Kilz over the varnish and then repaint. Or do you do the sanding and prep, then use kilz, then use paint? Thanks!

And does anyone know how to white wash. It sounded interesting..

  3. Because the bathroom cabinets have so much texture, I would use a "soft white" color instead of a "bright white".

I also agree about buying and using a super nice primer and follow standard prep.

Thanks! I think I'm just going to do it. I actually think the crazy blue sink would look cute with the white cabinets, but that's just me...lol. I don't like the blue sink all that much, but I figured...it can be changed later. I am however buying a new faucet. I hate the one there. Oh and we have one of those huge mirrors on the wall...depending on how it was put on there, I may frame it or remove it and hang another. Most likely I'll frame it though. I does help with light in there as it comes down the hall and bounces off of it into the bathroom.

I have some pretty blue ball canning jars that I want to fill with beachy stuff to put on a shelf above the towel hooks. I also found a cute storage idea using square baskets above the toilet for extra towels or washclothes rolled up and other odds and ends...I love Pinterest, :D

  4. Thanks y'all. I really am up in the air about this...I could always replace the vanity top...but to what?...the typical cream color? I don't know. I thought, yeah paint would be work, but it might be cheaper. I just want it to look nice either way and a beachy theme might brighten that hall bath that has no window in it and is narrow. It seems cramped in there to me. I want to make it feel and if I can, look, more open. I've been scouring the net for ideas. I guess I also don't want to lose the storage I have in that cabinet. I don't have a large home and the cabinets that are built in around the house are pretty much it for storage solutions. All the linens are in that closet along with TP/Tissues, beauty products and the like...

  5. I would love some suggestions if you have. I am wanting to redo our bathroom that has 20 year old very hard pine cabinets. They are in great shape, but I want to paint them white. I was planning on all new silver hardware, new paint, new towel ring and the like. I have a style of curtain I'd like to get, haven't found it, but I can make one from some material that I've seen and like which I will probably do.

I have a lighter blue vanity top that I can't replace right now. I think I can pull off a cute beachy theme if I paint the cabinets white...but I'm afraid that it'll be too much. The cabinets to the left of the sink go almost to the ceiling and are about 3 feet wide and almost 2 feet deep.

  6. I didn't can hardly anything this year. My garden was just a bust...it happens like that though. THen we were in and out much of the summer so I guess it turned out for the best. I still have good stores of things, but bummed that I'm going to have to buy green beans this winter :(

I would love to know if anyone would like to do a jam trade? :D

I have regular fig jam, spiced fig jam, apple pear butter, and jalapeno (which is heavenly over cream cheese and ritz or melted brie and crackers!)

  7. My aunt, grandmother and sister lives there (although sis just got married and moved back to FL with him). They love it and I liked it. I'm not a city gal, but it's nice.

If you go, go downtown and look up THe Bee's Knee's. It's a tapas style eatery with different ethnic dishes. OH MY! It was so delicious and the atmosphere was amazing!

It is the south, so yeah, for a northerner like you it's going to be hot. It's just fine for me as it's actually a little cooler there than here at home in south LA. It's a decent drive from Atlanta which has tons to things to do and see. It is also a decent drive from the coast...

  8. Y'all crack me up. I bet she'll be more prepared for next times collage crafting episode.

The rain has slowed, wind has died down. Kids are sooooooooooooooo bored. We're still schooling and i'm getting the "why can't we be off like the other kids"? To which I replied, "you can, i'll enroll you on monday". That stopped that. I told then earlier that I was just helping them out. They looked at me funny and I said, "now you won't be bored"! They didnt seen to find that amusing for some reason :D

  9. Still no power, but friends 12 miles away had it most of today...dont know if they still do though. The kids are taking a cool shower by choice and heading off to bed ontheir mattresses moved to the living room floor since the breeze is flowing g ood through there. I actually got to finish the afghan I was working on. I may add one more row of edging to it. I have very little yarn left over. I love that when it happens. starting on another tomorrow. Played uno and sorry with DH kids. Wind has died down a little, but could pick back up. Flooding in lowlying areas but they knew that would happen. This giant is moving 5 miles an hour. I can walk faster than that, lol. We'll see what tomorrow brings.

  10. Lol. Hubby is a seasoned pro now...we wait a while or it comes out when he gets hot. :tongue_smilie:Being a Yankee in the south can be a bit too warm for their nature.

I.m probably goong to have him crank it for a half hour or so for the fridge here in a bit. Then we'll hook up the freezers later.

Its baked potato soup for dinner tonight. Got milk I need to use up and fresh potaoes from a friend. Made toast on the gas top with apple cinnamon oatmeal for breakfast. Want to look into a proper toasting fork for campfire cooking now! Tongs don't work as well, lol.

Also reminded DH that we will keep a gas cooktop in our house...just for this reason, lol. We do have a crawfish pot and burner though with two propane tanks. Its good to use the burner for outside cooking when it starts getting too warm to cook inside.

Will be praying for your friend!

  11. It's all good here so far...power went out around 6:30 am...not starting the generator yet. We'll wait a bit longer. Cow shelter is no longer a viable out of the rain option. The tarp was already wearing out and the calves made a couple of holes even larger with their curious nature...the tarp is beyond repair at this point...that's ok. Thankyou Isaac for making it easier for me to remove.

We have lots of wind gusts, but the rain has been sparse. Its coming down very slowly.

  12. :grouphug: Well "Hello Isaac", I guess! Hopefully the rest of this day will be uneventful for you! :grouphug:

My chimes sound pretty, lol! DH can't get the generator to run quite right, but it'll do if need be. We'll take it in after the storm to have it looked at. He's taken a good bit apart and cleaned it and it still is running like it's clogged up a little. Both full sized freezers are packed full so they'll stay cold for a while and we just got back from vacation so the fridge is fairly empty. All the farm animals have been fed and are free to come and go as they choose. Dinner is planned for tonight using the gas cook top just in case the power goes out (oven is electric). I'm not saying how much food I have stored, but I'm a good practicing food storage/emergency prep Mormon, so we're set :D
