  1. Our Sunday was good. I lead music in sacrament so I've not sat with my family in years, but they always sit near so I can see them :) The kids over the years have learned to sit quietly (even without dad there) since my friends sat behind them and would keep them in line, lol

My friend the pianist was sick this week and came only for first hour to play and headed back home.

I headed off to SS where I love our teacher. She's so animated. My kids head off to their classes.

I leave a little early to head to Primary to do music. We had 5 littles and 3 big kids. We normally have about 4-5. It gets a little wild in there with so many littles and one of them is a little extra wild though and can get the others going if we don't keep on him to be reverent. The missionaries are teaching a large family with 7 children though and I'm super excited. We've been a very small primary for a long time. I hope they'll come.

  2. Sleep in a bit (which for me is until 7 or 8:30 lol). Some chores in the house and barn ...horse back riding mostly happens afterwards. An errand or two with DH, maybe lunch together. When the weather is nice we'll all go play tennis, bike ride, hike, or picnic...its a relax day for the most part.

  3. I'm a big canning mama, lol. I like the blue ball cookbook especially for beginners. It lays it all out simply. Then go from there.

Anything canned (pressure or boiling as per instructions) is to be stored in a dark cool area. We have ours all over the house since I have a small house :)

I can all kinds of stuff from our garden, or stuff I pick from local places, or if I get a really great deal.

Remember to keep everything as sanitary as possible and follow the directions. It's not hard, but it just takes some time. the kids help me with many things, but the actual handling of the canner and jars going in and out, I do that myself.

  4. School-

    grade papers

get three kids through the day and make sure they are all caught up

    career presentations done today

    lunch, lol

exercise outside-the weather has been beautiful

    Household-

    Laundry- two three loads done

    pick paint color for bathroom

pick up shower curtain and rod so that I can actually start using my newly tiled shower! :)

Pick up floor rugs for bathroom too (want to go to Tuesday Morning this weekend and see what they have)

    Outside-

Work all four horses today :) Should take a good while

Look at what I need to build a bridge obstacle and several other obstacles for training

Pick up four-five tarps for training as well.

Tomorrow is going to be fun {said in jest}...Jgirl has to come and have Saturday detention as previously agreed upon if she did not complete homework....she is cleaning the whole barn and tack....she's gonna be here a while, but I will say, she did do her homework last night because she didn't want to do it again next week :)~ and thankfully her parents see the good in making her stick to what she agreed to...even though there will be a birthday party she will most likely miss...

  5. Thanks for the update...I remember reading it, but I don't think I responded...lack of time that day most likely...I will say that when my kids wanted to start doing activities, we explained that once they started, they had to finish out the year (barring any major issues). That in order to give it a fair shake a good effort had to be put in even if it did get a bit hard. Perseverance is a hard skill to learn.

Hugs to you and I'm glad that it's working out.

  6. So just to update because we finally decided....dum da da dum ...... :)

    It's LUKA!

We were playing with Amir for a few days and though I mostly liked it, it just wasn't really working for me. I then called him Luka for a few and had him out at 4-H with friends and we all agreed that Luka just suits him. He's got such a personality that is fun and upbeat! He's prancy and likes to toss that head. He's just a fun little horse. His name has stuck and since it's very different from the others here, he'll adjust to it rather quickly.

  7. Polo wraps are all I haul in for short or long trips. I always bring an extra set for long trips so about half way we can stop, I remove the dirty ones, check legs, let them walk a bit or graze and then rewrap and reload. You can definitely run a swatch of vet wrap around them to hold them better, but if applied properly it will take quite a while to slip.

As for sweating under blankets, it really depends on how the driving conditions are. Open somewhat straight and smoother roads are fairly easy. Turning, starting and stopping is what makes them work to stay up. Always check under the blankets and make sure pony is comfy. I'd be apt to use a windbreaking type one (if my trailer was an open type) with a lighter fill. I would not use one if my trailer was fully enclosed. It's the wind that concerns me when it's cold (or raining) and we're trailering in an open trailer.

  8. Shipping wraps to support his legs (checked regularly), not shipping boots though-they almost always slide down and bring on more issues-I used polo wraps when I travel. Rubber floor mats are a must when traveling far and deeply bedding it down. Loose tied if possible would be better since they can move around as needed. Otherwise I highly suggest stopping to allow for rest. Electrolytes 2 days in advance is good and keep going through trip. Offer lukewarm water if possible (bringing a few jugs from his home source is even better since some horses will not drink funny tasting or smelling water when traveling). Hay in a net at all times so he can keep that gut moving and a fly mask on to protect his eyes unless your trailer is fairly enclosed. The blankets are good and he will most likely need them up there and during his trip. Texas woolies and Michigan woolies are two different things, lol.

  9. Most donks and horses get along just fine. Donkeys pride themselves on keeping stray animals away from thier property. They are normally quite watchful. There is always going to be an adjustment period, but after a couple weeks they should be just fine. Keep the new one in the round pen for a few days atleast, so they can visit safely. Most donkeys need very little to eat, but hay or grass. They are quite hardy. They do need farrier work just like any other horse, but they don't normally need to be trimmed that often. My neighbors donks get trimmed about four times a year. They can be pretty sweet too, but won't hesitate to take down a stray dog (some hate dogs)...oh and yes, do not let them get fat...it's easy to do.

  10. I certainly feel it helped me. Especially from what the flu type and duration has been like around here. I have a small lingering cough with congestion, but the actual ill feeling was only about 4 days total with a fever lasting 2 1/2 days. The tiredness is what got to me and I'm still wearing out a little faster than normal in the evening, but thats ok. I do occasionally get a headache during the day, but I think that is also from what I'm doing than from just the virus.

Give it to him. It can't hurt! :) Hope he feels better soon!
