  1. My ds5 & ds6 are currently using Right Start B. I just purchased the Math Mammoth light blue series for my ds6 about 3 weeks ago. I chose the lightblue instead of blue because I don't want to pick & choose which topic to do and when. I also chose lightblue because it includes tests. I wanted a more complete program for him to supplement Right Start and also get a little more drill. It is working out great so far. However, If you are just wanting to use it for additional worksheets then I think the Blue will be fine. They are VERY similar. As I said We've only been using it for a few weeks so I don't have alot of experience with it, but maybe someone who has will chime in soon. HTH!
  2. I'm not sure if this is the same one you're talking about, but this is a link to the Sonlight Preschool Yahoo Group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SLPreschool/ . There are some good schedules on there for P4/5. I'm about to start P3/4 for my 3 & 4 yr olds. I'd love to find a schedule for it. There is a resource called Peak With Books that looks really great and uses most of the same books Sonlight uses. I'm thinking of either using it with the SL books or Just creating my own.
  3. My children are still young (oldest is 6) so until recently we have just discussed it as it has come up. However, In the last few weeks we have been going through the book "A is for Adam" from AIG. I HIGHLY recommend this book as a great resource for introducing this subject to that age group. It has a coloring page for each lesson and a couple of pages of teacher's notes for each lesson. There is also an activity to do with each lesson. My boys are really enjoying it and learning alot. Here's a link if you're interested: http://answersingenesis.org/PublicStore/product/A-is-for-Adam,4312,184.aspx HTH!
  4. Rocksolidinc.com has their Alpha Omega products 20% off right now too. They have free shipping on orders of $95 or more. :)
  5. You could actually do AW with your 8 yr old too. It has resources for 2nd grade & up as well as K & 1st. Also, AW uses God's design for Science-Animal Kingdom for it's spine. That is a great science resource by itself that you could use to include your 10 year old.
  6. Another vote for Jonathan Park. My dc LOVE IT!! They're listening to it right now while they do their copywork.:)
  7. I'm not a TOG user...YET, but I think I can help you with this. Here is a link for the Bookshelf. You can perform a search by year, unit, & stage, and it will show all the books you need. http://www.bookshelfcentral.com/ Hope that helps!
  8. Thanks for the replies. I'm going to look into both of these, they both look great!!! Thanks!
  9. Hi, I am looking for recommendations for science for my ds5 & ds6 1st graders. So far, I've just been doing miscellaneous things with them for science, but I'd like to find a complete program with a little more structure. I have been looking at Apologia Zoology I & it looks great, but I wanted to see what else is out there that might be a better fit. I am looking for something with the following characteristics: Young Earth/Creationist Perspective Lots of hands on Fits well with a mixed CM/Classical approach not terribly expensive minimal prep work. They LOVE learning about science, especially hands on stuff. I am looking for something that will help to grow their interest. Thank You!
  10. Here's a link that might be helpful: http://www.redshift.com/~bonajo/SOTWmenu.htm It contains a resource that shows the vp cards in order with SOTW. HTH!
  11. I got the watercolor crayons from Hobby Lobby, they are made by Prang Professional. It took forever to find, but I finally found some in the clearance aisle.:)
  12. For Lesson 1 you need: Ebony Pencil, Sketch Paper For Lesson 2 you need: Watercolor Crayons (Recommended: Caran d'ache Neocolor II Watersoluble Brand), Watercolor Paper, Brush (#8 round) HTH!
  13. This may be what you're looking for: http://www.welltrainedmind.com/forums/showthread.php?t=49013

  15. I am just planning to do this for the upcoming school year, so I don't have any btdt advice. However, here is a link including a schedule that lines up the VP cards with SOTW. http://www.redshift.com/~bonajo/SOTWmenu.htm HTH!
  16. Fool's Gold with Matthew McConaughey is a GREAT action/adventure romance movie. DH & I both really enjoyed it.
  17. The following site has alot of good forms for lesson planning: http://www.donnayoung.org/
  18. Harmony fine arts does this: http://www.harmonyfinearts.com/
  19. Winterpromise Animals & their worlds looks really great for that age group. It is all inclusive and the books are really neat. It also has alot of hands on activities. It has a complete schedule to follow. Heart of Dakota is also really neat too, though...
  20. If you go to their website & click on downloads, there are sample schedules & guides available for download.
  21. I say go for WP AW. It just looks like so much fun. I'm going to use it for my k4,k5, & 1st for the fall. I think that they're really going to enjoy it. I don't plan to use their LA. I will use OPG & ETC for LA. From what I've seen, SL doesn't have all the hands on crafty type stuff that WP does. My dc really like to do hands on type activities. I haven't seen MFW so I can't really comment on it.
  22. In my opinion, 2 yrs old is pretty young to begin anything formal. However, there are alot of things you could do with her now. Here are some suggestions of things that my dc have enjoyed at that age: 1. You could read to her....ALOT. Stop on each page & let her look at the pictures and comment on them. The book Honey For A Child's Heart has alot of good book recomendations for that age. 2. If you watch tv, find the movie Leap Frog Letter Factory. It is wonderful. My 2 yr old has learned all of his letter sounds just from watching it. 3. Get alot of Arts & Craft supplies - construction paper, crayons, child scissors, glue. Let her cut, glue, color. That will help with her fine motor skills. 4. Take her to library story time, the zoo, other age appropriate field trips. 5. Take her outside & let her explore nature. 6. Teach her with everyday things. Let her help you cook, clean, do laundry, etc.. Ask her questions periodically (what color is this block? How many cheerios do you have? etc....) All that being said, when my now almost 6 yr old was that age, I was on the search for curriculum for a 2 yr old. I couldn't wait to "homeschool" him. I bought Abeka Nursery curriculum. If you're looking for something to use for her they have some cute art books for her age, but they're not necessary. Also, letteroftheweek.com is a free curriculum that is pretty simple to do. They have one for 2 yr olds. HTH:)
  23. We are going to use HIH next year along with SOTW. I agree with your statement that That is the reason I plan to add some materials from MOH and Diana Waring to supplement the SOTW. There is a free resource that someone on this forum created that correlates the readings in SOTW with MOH. I just ordered HIH yesterday. I only ordered the IG and the MYO notebook. Everything else I will get from the library, used, or from Amazon. I did not purchase the On the Spot history book based on advice I received here. I will re-evaluate that decision once I get the guide in my hands to see if I can substitute the activities from it. I don't think anything else is required for the MYO book other than just the book. I may be wrong, but maybe someone else who has the program already can answer this accurately. The "Hiding" Gods word in your heart sounds GREAT, and if I hadn't already spent too much on next year's curriculum I'd get it too. I'd love to find it used. I think the cost should be worth it. I only plan to use the history portion and purchased it so...we'll see. HTH!:)
