  1. Got my book yesterday. We will be finished with my vintage Irving Adler math workbook this week and hope to start this next week. Any tips from those already using Gattengo/Miquon?
  2. These are the reasons I commented on this story. We do need to talk about it. What is safe? What is appropriate? Of course, the answers will be different in each situation and with individual people, but what is the base/average/normal/standard? Can there be a standard?
  3. In the mid to late 90s as a kid, I remember a little kid who wondered off. He was little probably 4 or under. He was in my backyard playing. We had the nicest backyard in blocks. It was full of neighbor kids. Seesaw, BIG tree house with a monster tire to climb to get into the tree house with a fire pole slide, garden, fruit trees, patio with four square, basketball hoop and our neighbor on the opposite side of the alley also had a basketball hoop so it was our mini court, etc. It was a mini park. My dad came out and asked who this little kid was. No one had ever seen him before. My dad and a few of us bigger kids went walking with him down the avenue until we found the dad yelling and looking for him. I never thought once in my life that his parents were bad. Things happen... quickly! I am grateful that he did find a group of kids with an adult present so he could find his home. This case is much different to me. Tomahawk was not lost. Maybe I am wrong, but I really believe he was at his home. If it was common ground near his home, isn't this part of his home? I live in essentially a small village. Nearly all homeschoolers on a 16 acre property. Almost 20 kids among 6 homes. I go out to play with my kids as often as possible. I have to leave my home to go to the play area that is in front of my neighbors homes. I am routinely the only parent outside when the kids are playing. I have never thought my neighbors were neglectful for having their kids outside their home playing. I pray for this mother and her son. I hope she does not go to jail. I hope he has not been traumatized. I am glad that neighbors did check on him, but wish that if they were truly worried about him and they knew who he was that they would have visited his mother and let her know they were worried? That probably would have been faster than calling the police and waiting on the police to come to the complex. Lord have mercy on all of us!
  4. Not disagreeing with you. I grew up with probably what is now described as free range parents in a very rural setting. But a 4yo walking to school? I don't know many 4yos in school.
  5. I have Recipe for Reading 1. My son had difficulty with identifying the middle vowel sounds for CVC words that were in some of the first lessons.
  6. I would buy IEW's Linguistic Development, but hate paying shipping. So spoiled with amazon.
  7. I still think this would be a better ebook for me. Even with 40% off the ebook is a lot cheaper to own. Or is there a reason why this should be purchased in a physical format?
  8. This might be the best deal for getting ELTL. Any other great books on Lulu?
  9. Great just added it to my cart!
  10. We are almost finished with a math workbook by Irving Adler that I surprisingly really liked. I would like to use the Gattengo text after we finish our current work. Is there anyway to print this?
  11. I fit your criteria... Mine were 7lbs, 6lbs 5 oz, 5lbs 3 oz. Looks like my next one will be 4 pounds.
  12. Thanks for reminding me of the St. Louis (Chesterfield) Outlet. I keep forgetting we have one nearby. I really would like to go get some pie plates.
  13. What about Yesterday's Classics ebook collection $45 for 200+ books seems like a great deal for Kindle formatted or epub books. Or perhaps even better the Gateway to the Classics with access to over 600 books with lots of different search features to find the books you need. http://www.gatewaytotheclassics.com/samples/_ml_details.php This all seems to be a much better option than Robinson.
  14. Nate the Great Talks Turkey by Marjorie Weinman Sharmat and Mitchell Sharmat is currently free.
  15. Bought a watch for my son. Want to order some more, but need to limit it to one small thing a week or so. Next week I want to order a wooden mushroom nutcracker to give along with their nuts on St. Nicholas day.
  16. I got pulled over for the first time in my life a few months ago. I was taking my 6 year old to speech therapy. My new baby was in the car with us and my 3 yo at her grandma's house. I was so nervous. My plate had expired the month before and I hadn't noticed... the month we just brought home our new baby so I'm sure it was just our negligence and forgotten. Thankfully my husband is the muni prosecutor and I told the officer who he was and he laughed. That would have been a funny night in court to appear before my husband. My father-in-law was the executive director for the WV ACLU for some time and helped with the DWB stuff a lot. That is a very sad situation.
  17. Just bought a Timex Analog for our 6.5 year old for this upcoming Christmas. It was inexpensive, under $20 on amazon.
  18. Hadn't heard of this app. Might get this for the trip to Indy next weekend.
  19. This is the schedule I found on their site: We are hard at work on the fifth-grade books, with second grade to follow. The tentative production schedule is: 5A: Available now! 5B: Spring 2016 5C: Summer 2016 5D: Winter 2016/17 2A: Spring 2017 2B: Fall 2017 2C: Spring 2018 2D: Fall 2018
  20. Most people use BA starting around 3rd grade, right? This might be perfect timing!
  21. I have not, but it seems overpriced. You could just use the worksheets as a pdf or something on the iPad.
  22. I hate HWOT. Right now my son is doing copywork of my selections. I bought Peterson Directed and hope to start that very soon. I've slowly been adding a subject or two every few weeks. They have an app that teaches the muscle memory for each letter.
  23. I wouldn't send one kid and keep one home unless there was some very exceptional need one child had that could not be met at home. For me one of the main points of homeschooling is to have the family together at home. I view it much more holistically than just academically.
