  1. :lurk5: Listening in as we are looking at the same situation with our dd. She is at college in Roanoke, this semester on campus but would like to move off campus next year. DH and I have been going over the same thing as you, so I am very interested in the responses!
  2. Have you heard of Shaklee? That is what I use, and it is wonderful. Is is safe, green and works! My dd19 did a test with her Organic Chemistry class at the college re: germs. Each student and the teacher brought what they use to clean their kitchens. The Shaklee Basic G was the ONLY thing that actually killed all of the germs. If you are interested, PM me and I am happy to share more info.
  3. Math U See Primer was excellent. My ds enjoyed it very much. :)
  4. DH has an interview and I know there are home schoolers there, but am wondering if anyone knows any more. ;) Group Info would be great. Thanks!
  5. We use the snap circuits, but also both really enjoy the Delta Education 'Science in a Nutshell' kits. They are not too time consuming and the kits include almost everything you need. They each include 8-12 activities, so it is not too much. They keep my ds7's interest long enough, and then we move on to another. The link is below, but also be sure to watch the for sale board. ;) http://www.delta-education.com/siansplash.aspx?subID=5&menuID=17
  6. Very SW VA area (near TN border) has not seen it as of 7:30 pm, but we have been waiting all day for it. From speaking with a friend it started in Johnson City TN around 4pm. That is only 45 minutes from us and it still is not here. It must be moving VERY slowly.
  7. :grouphug: My thoughts and prayers are with you. My FIL has been diagnosed with aggressive gallbladder cancer, which is spreading rapidly, so we are going through the same thing. Unfortunately for us, his is inoperable.
  8. Another vote for AAS. We just switched to it.
  9. We also began SOTW last January switching from another history program. We are just finishing SOTW 1 and getting ready to move into 2. As with you, I wondered if we should go through quickly but am glad we did not. Take your time... stay with what interests your daughter.... and enjoy. I am glad we did.
  10. We have both and my ds 7 prefers LEGOs over both. ;) Both were xmas gifts in 2008 and were built once and sat for almost a year now. The Legos are built and played with constantly. Good luck!
  11. A sincere thank you for all of the ideas. Unfortunately, we are no longer looking to move there. We were just told my FIL has only a few months to live so they are no longer moving.
  12. Thank you for all of the information. My brother in law is in Alleganey county. I was looking at Cranberry, which is directly north of there. Any ideas on that area? Thanks again!:001_smile:
  13. Bump! :) Pittsburgh area - please give me some feedback.... thanks!!
  14. Hello all- We are currently in Virginia, but my husband is from Plum which is on the outskirts of Pittsburgh. I am hoping for some help from fellow home schoolers. My in-laws are not doing well health wise and they are wanting to move back to Pittsburgh to be closer to their family. (they moved south years ago to get out of the cold) We are considering moving up there to help and be closer to my husbands family. My DH has been putting job applications out in Pittsburgh. I have a sister in law in North Huntington and a brother in law in Bethel Park. They each love where they live, but neither have children. If my DH were to get a job there, where is a good family oriented, safe place to live? I am overwhelmed! Are the home school laws all the same? Coming from VA I have heard the PA laws are much stricter. I am interested in having a good size yard, family friendly, safe and hopefully a close knit of home school support. :grouphug: Any ideas? All are welcome and appreciated. Thanks!!
  15. I have used Shaklee for years and have been very happy with them-
  16. I also look at homeschoolclassifieds.com. Like this board, they sell used items and some are very reasonable. Hope this helps!
  17. Thanks, going to TripAdvisor now. :-) I am in Abingdon which is next to Bristol VA/TN.
  18. Thanks! I will try Priceline. If anyone cares to share their favorite place to stay in Williamsburg, I would appreciate it. ; -)
  19. where you go to find great travel -specifically hotel- deals? We are planning to go to Williamsburg next month and I am watching the hotel prices but they seem to be going up! :glare: Thanks in advance-
  20. Thank you for starting this thread! Our family is going through the application process with a local Christian agency to do the Foster-to-Adopt in our state. I enjoyed reading the positives that were pointed out. Please keep us in your prayers as we go forward!
  21. We had an Odyssey and ended up trading it in because we, too, were sinking a lot of money into it. It is the only Honda that was a major thorn in my side. We also had the transmission replaced, and had problems with the sliding drivers side sliding door either opening on its own or not closing properly. Even after the recall and Honda 'fixing' it, it did not work correctly. Another friend of mine also has the Odyssey and is having the same problems with her sliding doors! If anyone out there has the Odyssey, I would recommend going to the Honda dealer and checking for recalls that they will fix without charge for you. When we took ours in for the transmission there were other recalls that they took care of that we were unaware of. At least the service was good!
  22. I have also had three negatives who are now 19, 18 and 7. Sometimes it takes a little extra time to get that positive! Or, it could just be you are going through changes or stress. Good luck!
