  1. Thank you, that is what I thought. I think I am going to go with the, Explorers to the Gold Rush unit. We are studying the Westward Expansion and CA history this year. I think it should go along nicely. I appreciate your help! :)
  2. Hello. My oldest son is going into 4th grade and he is a reluctant writer. We have done WWE level 2 and it has worked well, but it is missing something for us. I have heard a lot about IEW and was able to attend a seminar. I think it sounds great and would love to try it with my son, but I don't want to purchase the Structure and Style program with the dvds, which is what is recommended. My question is, can I purchase one of the themed writing programs and start with that, or am I going to be lost without the Structure and Style program? I think I can figure it out but you never know...;) Thanks for your help.
  3. Ooooh, thanks for pointing these out. I am going to get a couple.
  4. I'd love to know more about these, I have never heard of them. What is the grade level for them? Thank you! Thanks for all of the great suggestions. My Good Reads list is growing and growing. :)
  5. Thanks for the suggestions! Now I just need to decide which one to pick. :001_smile:
  6. Hello. I am looking into getting a subscription for my boys and I would like to know what your favorites are. My sons are in 1st and 3rd grade right now. Thanks for your advice.
  7. I googled this program and found this post. Thanks for the information!
  8. Hi Liz. Thanks for your post, I just spent quite a bit of time reading your blog. :)
  9. Add me to the list. Thank you so much for posting this, what a deal! I can't wait for them to arrive. :001_smile:
  10. Tara, I love that idea! Darla, yes I think you are right. I don't think he has mastered this area yet or we would move on. Polly, I think I am going to have to make it a point to sit with him and do it. Thanks again, everyone!
  11. I forgot to add, thank you for all of your answers. Theyn have really made me feel better. Yes, it is exhausting some days, but I know it won't last. Maybe we will work on math later in the day.
  12. It really is just the math. But here's where I'm stumped. It is not too hard for him, I have watched him do it. It's not too easy for him either. He will end up doing it, I guess he is just bored with it. I can't give up math, so what do I do? His argument is, "I just don't want to do school."
  13. I didn't even think to include that info, it might be helpful! He is working on Math U See, level Beta. Yes, he completes it all the time. He does a page of math a day. Right now he is doing additon problems and place value. He does his work in the kitchen or dining room. I am usually in the room with him, and I monitor him all the time. (I have a 14 mo old baby that I need to supervise.) We usually spend 3+ hours in the morning and we have our reading time in the afternoon. Thanks, Holly. I'd appreciate your input.
  14. I'm at my wits end. I have tried using a timer, taking away priviledges, etc. I don't know what to do with my oldest son that is 8. He just sits and stares at his work, he wastes so much time. He knows how to do it, that's not the problem. I've tried giving him different work in a different order instead of his usual schedule. What am I doing wrong? Do we just need a break? I hate to do that because afterwards it is always hard to start up again. Tell me I am not alone.
  15. We are working our way through it. Your post gives me hope! :hurray:
  16. Thanks for posting. I was just thinking about ordering our new books, now I will wait a little bit longer for the new editions.
  17. Hello. We are using this one, and my son enjoys it. He is currently in second grade and is just about done with the first book. I have the second one for him to start and am going to buy the 3rd and 4th ones for him for next year. http://www.veritaspress.com/prodinfo.asp?number=000022&variation=&aitem=1&mitem=4 I forgot to add, I don't know if you want a secular book. This obviously is not. Hope it works for you.
  18. Looks like it's book 2 for us. I appreciate your input. :001_smile:
  19. Hello. I am going to get WWE and I am wondering which workbook to get for my son. He will be in 3rd grade next year, and we have been doing FLL, so he does copywork, narration, dictation, etc. Do I go ahead and get book 1 for him? From the description it looks like it would have a lot of what we are doing now in FLL. Any advice? Thank you. (I also have already purchased FLL 3 for next year.)
  20. Thank you so much for the responses. I am definitely going to observe a class in session, hopefully next week. I am so disappointed I can't go to an upcoming one day practicum and hear Leigh Bortins speak.
  21. I noticed there is a free trial available. I love their books, but for the cost of a monthly membership, I think I would rather just buy the books.
  22. First off, I am just learning about this program. From what I have read it sounds really interesting, something that I know my boys would enjoy. I am going to try and meet with a director next week and observe an open house. My hesitation is the price. It seems rather costly, considering you buy all of your materials. I had read on another thread that you could do this program at home. How is that possible, wouldn't you still have to pay for the entire program? As you can see I've got a lot more research to do before I make any decisions. I'd love your thoughts. Thank you, Jenny
  23. Where do you find the coupon code? I am putting the cart before the horse here, but I am going to an introduction to this next week and from what I have heard so far, I think I will like it. Thanks.
  24. Hello, I am new to this thread. My son will be in 3rd grade next year, and I am really interested in this book. My question is, what level of workbook should I get for him? We have been doing FLL, so he has been doing copywork, narration and dictation for me. Any input would be appreciated. :001_smile:
