  1. One month down! Week for for 5th and 2nd grade :)
  2. Those HOD pages are just fragile even if they are printed on thicker paper, or maybe my son is just rough. I did reinforce some of the pages with those dots (or whatever they're called.) I take the pages out and have my son do them on a clipboard. With that said, I love Better Binders. I think they're worth the money. I just found out recently that they have a lifetime guarantee.
  3. Is this for letter sized paper? The description is confusing. It sounds like it is for 4x6 paper. Do you know?
  4. We made it though our first week. Here is an update for 2nd grade, and 5th grade :)
  5. Oh please stop :) I was just thinking of how dreamy it would be to have a wireless color duplex laser printer. Wow. That's a mouthful. That Brother color inkjet looks like a more affordable option. I just spent way too many hours printing my stuff for the year by manually turning the paper over. I wasted a lot of paper and ink in just trying to figure out which way to turn it. Sigh. Maybe next year.
  6. Here is our week 1 and 2 of summer school :)
  7. A super awesome coffee travel mug from which you actually enjoy drinking. Seriously. No joke. This will revolutionize your school day :) I spilled coffee, or it was knocked over way too many times on my homeschool books. It also keeps the coffee hot for most of the school day.
  8. This is a dangerous thread. I thought I had a LOT of homeschool stuff. Apparently not!
  9. I'm trying to figure this out too. I bought IEW Bible Heroes for next year, and there are 27 weeks. I suppose I could just end at the end of 27 weeks, but I was wondering if I should stretch it out a bit. It seems to me that one lesson is supposed to last a week. From what I can tell you are supposed to draw the lesson out for 4 or 5 days.
  10. I like how SCM handles geography. You read through a living book, and use Uncle Josh's maps to map an area. I was going to do SCM Middle Ages this year, but went in another direction. I may do it in the future however. The guide had a weekly geography assignment using Around the World in a Hundred Years. These are the geo recommendations for that period: http://simplycharlottemason.com/planning/scmguide/history-modules-overview/history-module-4/
  11. I have an app that tells me that an item is about to end. I never bid until the last minute. Also, if it's on your watch list you get an email. Those emails go to my phone, so I get a double warning on items ending soon. On this particular item there were about 6 back and forth bids that made a used item nearly the same price as new.
  12. I totally don't get why people bid things up on Ebay when there are 3 days left on an auction. Seriously. Why not put it on your watch list, and wait to bid when it's closer to the end of the auction? There is no reason to have a premature bidding war on grammar books with plenty of time on the clock. Oi vey....
  13. This is my pretty much complete plan. We'll see if I'm compelled to add, subtract, or change anything once we get there :) All my boxes have arrived. I'm loving looking through everything! History - HOD CtC Math - CLE 4-500/LOF Grammar - R&S 5 Writing - WWtB (Giving this a shot. We'll see how it goes.) Literature - DITHOR 5/6 Poetry - HOD Spelling - R&S 5 & HOD Dictation Science - HOD CtC + Nature study Bible - HOD + BSGfAA Geography - HOD + Maps, Charts & Graphs Literature - DITHOR 5/6 Penmanship - Pentime 5 & Copywork Art - HOD & God & the History of Art
  14. Math - CLE 200/LOF/Miquon Grammar - FLL2 Writing - IEW Bible Heroes Poetry - HOD Spelling - AAS 3/4 History - HOD Beyond Science - HOD & ES Biology Bible - HOD & BSGfAA Geography - Map Skills/Maps, Charts & Graphs Literature - DITHOR 3 Penmanship - Pentime 2 Art - I can do all things (Stebbing) I think that about covers it :)
  15. I know I didn't stick with what I started with, and that is why she was asking. She was hoping to not switch around a bunch, and I get that. I actually love Singapore, but it was too difficult to begin in the middle with it for my child who had been in PS until last year. I know it's common to try a few things before you settle into something. It's interesting to see what ends up being used after all the sampling of different programs by this stage.
  16. I asked specifically about 5th because I was wondering if anyone made it through a program from the grammar to logic stage without dropping it. My oldest is in 5th grade. She was thinking about MUS and RS. In looking at 5th grade planning threads those are nearly absent from people's plans. I was trying to explain to her what I've read about various programs, and which ones it seems to me people stick to more often.
  17. A friend and I were having a discussion about math. We were trying to figure out what programs have the most longevity. She's just starting out with her K kids, and wanted to know what program she is less likely drop. It seems to me that there are some programs that seem to be very loved in the early grammar stage, but often get dropped. I often see that people love RS, but drop it by level C. I sometimes see the same thing with MUS as well. Singapore seems to have more longevity with people. My observations might be totally wrong about the aforementioned programs. My question is: What program are you using once you hit the logic stage? Is it a program that you have been using long term? What do you love about it?
  18. I don't love some of the young earth materials in the higher guides. A few of them just seem hokey to me, but we will probably read them just so they know the different theories of creation. The science is light in the younger guides, but I don't mind adding extra. I actually really like the HOD science, but my boys enjoy having as much extra science as I will throw at them. I love pretty much everything else though :)
  19. I really love SCM :) If I didn't already have a plan I love I would definitely do it. It does make combining kids easy, and the book choices are excellent. I like that module 5 and 6 also cover world history, so that you aren't skipping out on what happened in the rest of the world. I love all the other components of SCM as well. I wish they would make a more all inclusive guide that had a few other SCM components written in as well though. I can't comment on the other 2.
