  1. We just seem to adore the old fashioned read-alouds! I would love to get some more ideas. Some recent favorites: - The Moffats (we will read the rest - we've only read the first in this series) - The Saturdays (read the entire series) - The Great Brain (read the entire series -- LOVE!) - Gone Away Lake books
  2. Of course I figured it out as soon as I posted!!!
  3. Haha, yeah, I wasn't sure how to put it, but basically he can handle pretty high levels :) I just requested a few of the Jude Watson books!
  4. Just something he would like. He's a good reader, so he can handle good literature :)
  5. My son loves Star Wars (I'm now a born again fan!!) I think he would enjoy reading the series but I have no idea which books and in which order. Any suggestions? Amazon seems confusing to me.
  6. Thank you so much! Thank you! Our cat is a big part of our family as you can probably tell :) And those were our friend's backyard chickens and our son was seriously in love!!
  7. I am so touched by the sweet words - thank you all! This project has been the best thing I've ever done, and definitely the most emotional. It is motivation to keep going and whenever I feel like quitting, I can watch this video and remind myself why it's important to keep going!
  8. Thank you so much :) Actually one of my projects for this year is to get in the frame more often -- I'm going to do that at least once a month because I agree 100% with you!!!
  9. Here is my full project: https://www.flickr.com/photos/33329506@N06/albums/72157650084754515 I basically do it a little easier - I don't force myself to shoot every single day, but rather I try to shoot every day and then at the end of each month, I pick my 30 favorites for that month. At the end of the year, I've got a nice set, and the 365 project just keeps me motivated to shoot on a regular basis!!
  10. My friend's son has autism and she uses all of her lenses and just plays. They turn out really well. I say go for it! I bought the music from Triple Scoop Music. It was pricey for sure, but I loved the song and it just felt like it fit, so I bit the bullet and went for it!!! And would you believe I just created the video in Lightroom, in the Slideshow tab? I am kind of clueless of any of the other software programs and this was an easy fix!!!
  11. Thank you so much! I've never created a video like this, but so glad that I did!!
  12. This year I completed my first 365 photography project. I was inspired to choose my favorites and create a video slideshow. To say that I'm thrilled with the final results would be an understatement. It just reminds me why I did this project in the first place and that I definitely want to continue doing it again this year. Thanks for looking! Creating and watching this video really made me emotional :) (and the music has been fully licensed by me, so all good there!) Don't forget to turn on the volume!
  13. I'd find that really inappropriate and I'd be really mad. That said, I might approach it anonymously, because honestly, you don't want you or your son to be branded a trouble-maker (and this is very possible, IMO). I really think it depends on the school and the administration -- some places I would feel very comfortable approaching admin and others not so much. Sorry this happened :( It's so disappointing.
  14. Oh my kids LOVE Merlin. They're watching it again this month! I have to admit I'm not always in the room when they watch, but it's really well done and I enjoy watching it when I can!
  15. Loving all the recommendations so far! I've added a bunch to our library request list!!!
  16. I read those aloud a couple of years ago and we all loved them! He is not opposed to listening to books we've already read, so I'll look into this one (I try to get them as CD's from the library, because he has a CD player in his room that he likes to use for this!)
  17. Off the top of my head (I'm bad at remembering this kind of stuff, ugh!) Books: The Rent Collector TV show: Homeland (on Showtime, but now available through Amazon as an add-on service)
  18. My son LOVES to listen to audiobooks before going to bed. He's addicted to it, and I love it! It shouldn't be scary since he is going to sleep. Some that he has really enjoyed: - Hatchet (his most recent) - Stuart Little - My Side of the Mountain - Lots of Roald Dahl books I have to say that he especially loves books read in a male's voice! That was sort of a funny surprise to me. He likes them in a girl's voice also, but really seems drawn to male voices even more! TIA!!
  19. This is a great book! I only read a little before having to send it back to the library, so now it's on my Christmas list. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1594634718?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=ox_sc_act_title_1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
  20. My daughter has become the official baker in our family. She has been making them right now to bring to friends. Here are two favorites she recently made: _R6A6906 by Tammy, on Flickr And these amazing Peppermint Jo-Jo Truffles (super easy -- crush up peppermint Jo-Jo's from Trader Joe's (their version of an oreo with peppermint inside...so good! and mix with cream cheese, then dipped in white chocolate and peppermint pieces sprinkled on top -- google Oreo truffles for the recipe). 343 / 365 ~ 2015 by Tammy, on Flickr
  21. This reminds me of Gavin De Becker's books (The Gift of Fear and Protecting the Gift). It is NEVER wrong to trust your gut, or to do something vs not doing something and having regret. That's not to say the kid is bad or that something would have happened, but you had a weird feeling in the past, and you have to do whatever you can to make sure there's not even the slightest chance something could happen or even that you would have any regrets. Imagine something did happen, and you have to relive a million times those moments when you wished you would have just gotten her. You did the right thing.
  22. I know nothing about Arduino! Do you know what age they are meant for? The amazon version doesn't show an age. Are you talking about a kit like this? There seem to be a few, so a bit confusing. Thanks for your response! http://www.amazon.com/Arduino-Ultimate-Starter-Includes-Instruction/dp/B00BT0NDB8/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top?ie=UTF8
  23. That's what was on his list! He would need something a bit advanced because he's been taking an engineering class for several months. Any suggestions?
