  1. :iagree: That's how I feel and is probably why I'm sharing with my 8yo dd to do.
  2. I have a copy that I bought too late for my 1st ds. I now have an almost 3.5 month old. I was reading TWTM and it suggests this book for the 0-3 age group. Anyone actually use it this young? If anything, I figure it gives dd some ideas for games/ activities she can do with her baby brother. :)
  3. Is the writing program the weakest component of the package? I ask because that is mentioned in this thread. We love GI and I'm considering purchasing the other TMs. How do others feel about Sentence Island? Also, do you go onto Magic Lens or move to another program? If you move, which program?
  4. I hope that as well, but I often wonder how true that is. Part of the reason we homeschool isn't to hope there's a rote memory. By high school I knew the game of remembering x to pass y test, only to forget x and y the next day. While I probably couldn't remember everything I learned, I wish my high school and college days weren't about how to regurgitate what I learned and then drop it to learn the next thing the teachers/ professors wanted to hear.
  5. The tax monies are coming! I've played with an iPad and if cost were not an issue, I wouldn't be posting. *lol* So I was thinking maybe 2 kindle fires. But then another smart mama told me about the Toshiba Thrive. Since the primary reason for the tablet is schooling, this would be great as it has flash capability (which it seems iPad does not,) and I have pdf curricula that links to flash. So, who has one? Do you like it? If you don't, what would you rave about? I'm still in research phase, so I'm totally open to others I haven't considered/ aren't aware of. :)
  6. Thank you for mentioning HTTS. I bought it last year, tried it with dd and it wasn't a bust but I don't think we were ready for it. I've just pulled my copy off the shelf and I'm feeling inspired to try it again. :001_smile:
  7. Hmm, I wasn't aware of the Thrive. I see it supports flash...
  8. From the homeschooling pov of ebooks/ curricula, which would opt for? Why?
  9. We've dabble in the k-2 unit and the monkeys enjoyed it. We also have the 3-5 (which we've yet to try.)
  10. For those who use MEP and supplement, why did you decide to do so? How is it using a mastery supplement with a spiral program?
  11. How do you use it (ie, main program, supplement, review, etc) and what year are you using? If it isn't your spine, what other program/ curriculum do you use?
  12. :iagree: We're doing Grammar Island right now, and I only purchased the TM. Much of it is oral discussion. There's only been 2 or 3 pages so far that I've decided to utilize a white board for working on examples. From what I can tell of the other book in the Grammar level, this is the same except for Practice Island
  13. I'll admit, I'm a font snob and at first Mr. Q's just turned me off. But I'm looking at it again (and trying to ignore the font) and I can see why people like it. Why do you think it might not work well as an open and go?
  14. I like MM and have found it to give a good basis for my monkeys. That said, dd, my non-mathy child, took a bit of time going through it and had a bit of a hard time getting some of the concepts down. Manipulatives and games helped to get her through the tougher parts. Now that we're about 1/2 way through 2A, I glad we pushed through level 1 because now she understands the whys and hows. Ds, on the other hand, has moved much more quickly through 1A and has just started 1B. However, I'm anticipating that by summer he'll be in 2A. He understands the basics much better and seems to acquire the skills more quickly than dd.
  15. Usually library books, sometimes I don't have a few supplies on hand. I also like to check the links before hand. While Intellego does find new links for broken ones, I like to know ahead of time where the new link redirects so I can see if its worth our time doing or if I would rather find something else. But overall, the monkeys are enjoying the weather unit. We also have the k-2 astronomy (we'll switch back to this in the spring when the weather warms,) habitats and human body along with gr 3-5 astronomy and chemistry (we haven't tried these yet.)
  16. I also work and homeschool. We've been using Intellego simply because I can fit it into our schedule but sometimes it does take a little bit of prep. It works for us for now, but I'm always on the look out for the next science curriculum.
