  1. What I am saying is they likely did not have a working knowledge and/or daily exposure to other religions. There wasn't a Muslim next door, like in my neighborhood.
  2. I don't think it is presumptuous. They all came from societies where the Christian God is the only one they knew. I also don't think it is clear that they weren't Christians. They may not have been devout Quakers or been invested in the trappings of many of the Christian denominations of the time, but that doesn't mean they believed that God completely bailed on the world after creating it.
  3. IIRC, the Declaration says "Creator" and "Supreme Judge." I'd have to check to be completely sure.
  4. Nicely put. We just read in our (secular) Thomas Jefferson book that Jefferson called for a day of fasting and prayer when Britain shut down the port in Boston following the Boston Tea party.
  5. I have entertained Core 5, but am worried that my 3rd grader will be lost. It is on my list to look at next year for sure.
  6. Where did you find it? I'll have to stalk some used curricula sites.:)
  7. I am new here and you obviously are not. I must say however, that beating a dead horse usually doesn't get anyone anywhere. I think your point that the author of RS4K is a believes in ID has been thoroughly made, has it not?
  8. Sounds great! We are using SL Science 2 this year, and it is fine but I don't LOVE it. I love all of our other curriculum and I want to love science too. I think if we do Apologia as a kind of read aloud and then RS4K as workbooks, we'll the best of both worlds.
  9. I really love the way the workbooks look! I like that you can see everything on their site. I think we may give this a try next year, perhaps paired with Apologia.
  10. I have not used everything SL, but I have 4 friends that have used SL exclusively all the way from K to 10th grade (so far). They love SL and wouldn't dream of switching.
  11. Everything I've read on MOH emphasizes using with kids ages 10+. I have not seen Illuminations. Off to check it out now. Thank you!!
  12. I have looked. I go for the ready made curriculum. With 4 children I do not have time to put anything together. I like the open and go Instructor's Guides. TOG is too much work for at this point for me. BUT, in two years, I will not have a baby/toddler and life might be easier, so it is something to consider. We do have SOTW books and CDs. We've gone through all of them once, but need to revisit. I would like to do MOH sometime too. Thanks!
  13. oohh, I didn't know that there were some DK eyewitness videos on Netflix. Thanks!
  14. American Story 1? It is $400, is that a lot? It has more than 40 books that comes as a part of the package. We budget about $1500 ish for school for two kids each year. I piece together our LA and we use MUS and Sonlight or Apologia science. I figure $1500 is a steal when it would cost $17,000 for a year of private school for both of them :D ETA -- really is $400 for a program expensive? You have me wondering now. I need to do another post I think. Maybe I can figure out how to do a poll if the toddler will keep his hands off my keyboard.
  15. We are doing the first part of American History this year and will do the second half next year. We are using Winter Promise American Story and really like it. I am planning ahead and trying to figure out what we will do when we finish American history. World history??? The kids that I group together will be in 3rd and 5th at that time. I will have a child that is in Kinder/1st as well. I want to do MOH at some point, but am thinking that I should wait until they are 5th and 7th to use it. I guess I don't have to world history, but what else should I do? I have used both WP and Sonlight in the past and liked them both. I am open to either of them or something new. Suggestions please and thank you :)
  16. Thanks for the great ideas everyone. I'll spend some time this weekend checking them out. We do have a US map and a world map on the walls of the school room, but I feel like I need to do something a bit more purposeful and structured.
  17. In my mind I had written early elementary:001_smile: 1st and 3rd grade
  18. I would like to add some sort of geography into our daily (or weekly) schedule. Any suggestions of programs you like? Thanks so much.
  19. Texas. San Antonio is fab. The Hill Country (Kerrville, Fredericksburg) is beautiful. Great weather, no snow, close enough beach. Good cost of living.
  20. We are doing WP AS1 with my 8 and 6 year old this year. We did AW last year. Love AS1 so far!
  21. Gosh, John looks so YOUNG! The dancers look like giant flamingos. What awful choreography. Who would have ever thought men in pink tuxedos would have been a good idea! I did catch the part you were talking about. :)
