  1. ETA: Would you choose Apologia (elementary) instead? I want a science I can teach in a 4 year rotation for our 4, 6, & 8 yo dss. The 8 yo will start 3rd grade next year. I want to go through a series and then return through it again as the younger dss follow. When the oldest ds is in 6th, the middle will be in 5th, and the youngest ds will be in 3rd. So I do not want to be teaching way over the youngest's head for the 4th year in the cycle because he will not get it again. KWIM? Starting in 7th I plan on them jumping out of the cycle into Apologia. We are young earth. So for the K-6, would you do Christian Kids Explore or God's Design? And why? Pam
  2. :iagree: http://www.amazon.com/Drawing-Textbook-Bruce-McIntyre/dp/B000GTZZ9Q Lamp Post Homeschool Store sells it: http://www.lamppostpublishing.com/drawing-textbook-art-curriculum.htm My olders (when they were youngers, of course :D) LOVED this book!
  3. Do they use a variety of art media? Does it teach artists? History? Pam
  4. I am very interested in this. I called the company to ask some questions, but no one called me back. Is it similar to Meet the Masters? I looked at MtM, but I don't like paying their price and not having the lessons on DVD to pass down to youngers so they could use it. Could you share what it teaches and how? I can't find any samples on the web site of the DVDs. I was about to commit to buy and then wondered if it would be any cheaper to purchase at the homeschool convention (CHAP--Harrisburg, PA). Pam
  5. I have it and use it. You need it to do what the program is trying to accomplish...speed. You can make your own. Look at page 21 of your instuction book (The one I have is on that page.) Take 2 pieces of cardstock and outline a domino to match the picture. Each side of the game board is the size of 1 piece of cardstock 8 1/2 x 11. If your book is different than mine [Mine is dated 1983--that's about how long I've had it! :)], and you don't have a picture in yours, you can PM me and I'll send you a picture. HTH Pam
  6. The "bed" helped my olders when they were young to think about which to write 'b' or 'd', but to remember to SAY the write SOUND quickly enough for reading we learned: -If you see the LINE FIRST in the 'b', make a LINE with your mouth to say the /b/ sound -If you see the CURVE FIRST in the 'd' make a Curve with your tongue to make the /d/ sound With that there were no pictures and 'names' of letters to remember while trying to read. It just flowed naturally then! HTH
  7. I used to like KONOS. I did do it for 2 yr. (?) with our olders. I liked the old (1st) edition. I wish I would've kept them!
  8. Does Sonlight have much hands on activities? Maybe I'll look at it at our convention in May (CHAP).
  9. I started him in cursive, and I require cursive. I couldn't vote #1, because he doesn't want to do manuscript even though I require cursive. He likes cursive! :)
  10. This will be our last dc to homeschool through Kindergarten! :crying: I have too many choices and I want to focus on one and completing it!! I have Math and Phonics covered. This is just for the 'fun extras'. Did you use the one you chose? Tell me WHY you chose it, please! :) Pam
  11. http://www.handsonhomeschooling.com/ Like or dislike? If you started it, did you complete it? Pam
  12. I haven't used it yet, and I didn't think I ever would, but I will vote for SOTW for a SPINE. I vote for it because I plan on using it with Biblioplan and, from what I understand, Biblioplan teaches SOTW one civilization at a time.
  13. Mine's still all in a box :( I have a 2nd/3rd grade ds and a 1st grade ds this year. I am going to look at it again right now! I've used many TOPS with our olders, but never Primary Lentil. I thought I'd try it for our last youngers, and then I ended up with too much stuff!!! Right now we have a table for 'special' legos and a table for moon sand. I bought the largest 'under-the-bed' plastic container with lid for the moon sand that we use on one of the tables. It works very well too keep it 'in'. I was planning on doing the same with the lentils. If I get it set up, I'll post pictures. :bigear:
  14. Can anyone tell me what changes there are in the older edition FIAR compared to the newer spiral edition?
  15. Wow, Lizzie! Great List!! Thanks
  16. I've wondered.... Would it be-- Beers is the method; PR is the manual like Spalding is the method; WRTR is the manual?
  17. Maybe look at Bible Study Guide For All Ages. http://biblestudyguide.com/enter.htm We really love it. Every time I even mention trying something else my dss protest! Pam
  18. We have that same edition. It says right on the front of the cover for ages 9+ . Our 8 & 6 yo dss just played it yesterday without any trouble. They get it out a few times a week.
  19. Ughhh... I wish I lived closer to where there are people who have and go to these seminars!!
  20. Well, I'm back to SWR! I went to 3 day seminar 2 years ago and it was GREAT! I used SWR for 1 year and then tried to schedule a class in my area and NO one responded. I was bummed. I had an opportunity to go back to PR which I started my 8yo ds with in kind. and sold all of my SWR. I HATED not having a manual in hand! I liked the DVDs in PR, but I still did not like Not having a printed manual to refer to. I was forever missing a little here and a little there in my instructions. And my boys did not like the 3 ring binders for their notebook pages. They were always a pain to get out and then the holes would get torn up. We all like the composition books much better! I am use to the rules in SWR and their markings. Now I would like to try again to host a SWR Seminar in July or Sept.. If anyone would be interested in attending, I live in northwestern PA. It would be close for you in western NY or northeastern OH. Pam
  21. I tried TOG, MFW, Weaver (many years ago), KONOS, Christian Cottage, and probably forgetting a few (Hiding with embarrassment!). I am using Biblioplan now and I love the read aloud and reading selections. I was not sure about the spines, but my boys are loving SOTW. I like that the activities come separately so if we don't want to do them or want to plan something else we are not leaving boxes "un-checked"! :tongue_smilie: We started with the third year. I wanted something I could use with all 3 boys. It looks like the best fit for us. Pam
