  1. This is our favorite for drawing lessons!! Our graduated dc still remember a lot from this book. It is very practical! Pam
  2. Is it crazy to do both? I can't let go of R&S English, but I want to do a different writing program. Can I skip the writing assignments in R&S and do EIW? Can I skip the grammar in EIW, or is it woven into the writing? I have Writing Strands and really thought I'd do them, but I don't think I want to go through them agian. I even have the cassette tapes for levels 2, 3, & 4 that are no longer available. Pam
  3. Very nice contrast/comparison/review all in one! This was very helpful to me, as I've also thought of these together. Thanks Merry! Pam
  4. Do you use The Ultimate Geography and Timeline Guide? If not, does it seem you are missing a lot without it? Pam
  5. I started out using FIAR with GTG for a world geography for 2 & 3 grade dss. It is not going as planned. We had a great start with a general overview of the world and Scotland went well, but I feel very unorganized and disjointed. We're following GTG more and only touched FIAR for some vocab. words. We have nice passports and a nice notebook started. I'd like to get more into a continent by continent map study and read a few good books. I want a more laid out plan. (I don't want MFW.) Has anyone done BF Geography? It looks like it is mostly or all about geography of US. Is this just the samples, or does it go around the world? Did anyone like/dislike it? Thanks Pam
  6. Trying it out (linking)... Our first patch for our geography introduction. Thanks, skeeterbug! Pam
  7. We are using GTG this year and Apologia Flying Creatures and are LOVING it!! I chose the FIAR titles that go with the GTG Lessons to use as our core books. I made vests for our dss and we put a patch http://www.patchworkdesigns.net/patchprograms.htm#mini on them for each country studied. I also got them passports and flag stickers. I bought all the FIAR books over time from amazon or ebay so I knew I'd have those if we did not get to the library. I also bought some of the books from GTG suggested core. This is a good site that give a large sample of GTG...http://books.google.com/books?id=tr69S9AjrsoC&pg=PA8&lpg=PA8&dq=galloping+the+globe+schedule&source=bl&ots=U4i_qY_vbR&sig=U9Py2mz4p75x9iCDPHWthQIYj00&hl=en&sa=X&ei=0z6TUO3rN8e90QWPkYGwBw&ved=0CD4Q6AEwBDgK HTH some. :) Pam p.s. how do you put a link in in place of a word for that link? so the whole link isn't shown in the text you write?
  8. You could jump around, but I'd start at the beginning since they do the jumping around for you! :)
  9. We use both here. I used the Guide before they ever had Student Sheets and we still loved it. There are times we just use the Student Sheet, but I always come back to the Guide for songs, drills, and other reproducibles you don't get anywhere else. Pam
  10. They are both me. What a mess! My name is PamT on another board and I had it on this board years ago. I will probably get banned for this, but I want it all up front. I am at family's and was using another pc because mine was being used. When I signed in to respond, I used the old name not realizing what I did. I can't believe I even got the password right to sign in. I don't know what it is even now! I didn't even remember that I had that name on this board. It must have been with a different email address. I am not trying any funny businness here. It was all an honest mistake. I hope it all makes sense. I was wondering where my response to the first responder went, and now I know. Pam Just a homeschool mom trying to get advise...not trying to cause trouble! :001_smile:
  11. If you have more than 1 child and do lesson plans, do you do them separately or together? I have K, 2nd, & 3rd graders this year and can't decide which to do. We do Bible and an Opening Time together, 2 of them do History & Science together.
  12. Thanks, This is a great program! My boys LOVE it! Pam
  13. I just spoke to them at HSBC (Homeschool Buyer's Co-op) and they are re-opening Family Time Fitness at the reduced price of $45.00 until 3:00 EST today (9-05-12)
  14. I have always done Rod & Staff English with our older, graduated children. Now I am using SWR with our sons 7 & 9 and I am not sure if I should use the grammar in SWR and skip R&S or stay with R&S and skip the SWR grammar and just do the phonics/spelling part. Or should I do both? If I just do the grammar in SWR will I cover all that is in R&S? And if I do SWR for a few years and then do R&S, where would I start in it? Pam
  15. ...how is your dc's retention of facts and concepts? Pam
  16. Do you feel Saxon Math teaches the "why" in Math?
  17. Thank you for the replies. Just when you think you have your plan all figured out......:( I will do some more searching. I am reading older posts on higher level MUS to look for ones who go all the way and see success! Hope to find them!! :001_smile:
  18. I am really struggling with reviews about MUS. 1. I read some say that with each year's focus on a separate topic there is not enough review with previous skills. But, in the sample videos it looks like there is still +, -, x, & dividing review in what they are learning in fractions, as well as money, clocks, measurements, etc. Is there more to it than what the scope and sequence looks like? 2. We did MUS Primer and most of Alpha and last year switched to CLE. CLE is going well, but I think the foundation from MUS helped tremendously. I am beginning to wonder about a post I read about how spiral doesn't make them 'master' anything. It probably depends on the student??? 3. Also, I was planning on going into Saxon after CLE for younger years, but does Saxon teach the 'why' like MUS? Some of my older dc did Saxon, but not past Alg. 2. It was so long ago, I don't remember it much and I don't think my dc grasped a lot doing it.
  19. :iagree:Ours have also learned tons! Yes, all the judges, all the books of the New Testament, the 7 days of creation, the apostles, and so much more! And we love the songs CD! I have typed up pages of the words to the songs so we can learn them better.
  20. That was so easy!!! I should have gone to bed last night instead of trying every other way possible until 1:00 a.m.!!! I aksed my husband if I could take an excel class somewhere! Thank you! Pam
  21. I can freeze the top sections OR the first column, but how did she freeze BOTH at the same time?
  22. Thank you! I need to learn excel! I think now it's between excel and Scholaric....online or not online.
