  1. How much of the lesson do you do orally? When do you start to do more (or all) written? Or do you require all written from the beginning? Do you feel your child would have retained more if the lessons would have been written out?
  2. What do you use for your notebook pages? Would you mind sharing a sample of your spreadsheet? Also, do you miss the Lit. questions from SL? Do you read what your dc read so you can ask questions or do you do another lit. program?
  3. Thank you everyone for the input! A lot to think about and pray about. I will talk again to my dh and see what we decide. :iagree: These reasons make it hard to choose!
  4. The biggest difference between us and you is that yours is "advanced" and mine is "behind". If mine was advanced I'd keep him in the "grade" according to his age and let him go as high and as fast as he could. He could always take advanced courses the last few years to count toward college. KWIM? Pam
  5. Ds, age 8, (birthday is 9-03-03) would be in 2nd grade if in our public school. I was considering him a 3rd grader in our homeschool because of his birthday being so close to the beginning of a school year. He is not up to 3rd grade work in math and reading, but finally advancing in bigger steps!! Would you register him as a 2nd or 3rd grader? Should I keep pushing him or relax and enjoy? I only ask because we have to test in 3rd, 5th, & 8th grades here in PA, and I will have to test this year if I chose 3rd grade. Two thoughts: 1. If we place him as 2nd grade and he advances through okay we will have more time to possibly do some dual enrollment in highschool years. 2. If we place him in 3rd grade he will be in the same grade as our grandson and his other friends at church (They go to our church school)that have birthdays within 6 weeks as his. Thanks~~~Pam
  6. Thank you so much for encouraging me to not set this aside. It sounds like we are doing the same things in it. Do you do 1 lesson/week? We have been trying to get 2 in. Pam
  7. Nicole~ We use BSGFAA, also. How do you use it? What parts do you use/don't use? It seems like it is taking forever to get it done and we are not doing any of the extras like we use to now that we've added so many other "school" subjects to our day. Pam
  8. Good! I ordered from Bibloplan!! ~~And thanks to whoever it was in another post that explained how to do multiple posts. :)
  9. Great! :( I just purchased this. Maybe I should've started with the Ancients!!!!
  10. I'm looking at the sample of BP Early America Guide and see books listed in the Readers section that I can't find at our library. Is there a list in the Guide that tells all the recommended books for the year? Or do I have to read through the guide week by week to order or borrow books? Do you just substitute for that topic? I just like to have the books I need ready before we get stuck and can't move on until a book is ordered or found through the library. Pam
  11. Thanks everyone! I think I'll look into Early America. CarrieF. I think I PM'd you the other day...did you get it? :) Pam
  12. ...could I start with Early America with 3rd gr ds and 1st gr ds? Or is it best to start with Ancients? Pam
  13. ...do you get the hardcopy or e-book? Pam
  14. CarrieF--- I have an 8 yo ds. I have been looking at Biblioplan. Which one did you start with? Could I start with Amer. History? Does it "fit" well with just having younger ones? Pam
  15. I used MUS Primer. It set a good foundation for numbers, place value, etc. I think I will use it again for 4 yo ds next year before he starts CLE for 1st.
  16. Tara- I can see this being a problem for us. We tried ABeka once with our older dc years ago, and that is what was happening. I can see mine catching on to the pattern with what they are doing now in GWG, but I was hoping it would change. I don't think it will as I look at more examples, even though I thoroughly read each lesson and sentence with them. :(
  17. Sandra-- Thank you for explaining what you see. That does help a lot!!
  18. I don't know. That's what I've heard. Just wondered why people say this in posts I've read.
  19. I would like to see if the suggested reading list I heard CKE has would be books I can find at our library. Pam
  20. Thanks for bringing my attention to these. They look good as an add-on!
  21. Anyone still using it after you got started on it or did everyone drop it? :bigear:
