  1. Oh, you poor dear! Who told you you were allowed to be sick? Huh? So sorry about the BP. I'd say stop stressing/stop worrying but my recent health issues have indicated that I can't really give that order! Hmmm. I'll pray for you, how's that? <<<HUGS>>>
  2. Wow, Jean, letting yourself rest?? Do you have a fever or something? Or is that why you slept so long? We're about to head out to drop off the kiddos at their various places of fun. Then I get to come home and fill out extension paperwork for my class. The fun never ends! chat with you all later!
  3. Here's to you being able to get to the grocery store! Speaking of which, I shopped yesterday, now need to make sure I don't need to throw anything into the slow cooker for dinner!
  4. What? No one's coming into the Lounge today? Or is it too early? Oh, wait, I get it, I didn't list any snacks!!! Well, tomorrow I'm making Paleo zucchini 'bread' but that doesn't really help you today, does it? Hmmm. Maybe I'll run out to the store and get some dark chocolate later. That sounds good! I do have some hard boiled eggs available. My husband did buy some Totinos pizzas last night. Help yourself if you'd like. Those aren't Paleo, or GF, by any means! I also have a plethora of loose-leaf teas. Help yourself! We do have some strawberries and blueberries I just bought at the store yesterday. Sorry, no sugary stuff here. Sugary sweets are not Paleo and way too tempting for me to even have in the house! Anyone else want to bring in some snacks?
  5. HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!!! Just for kicks and grins, I'm going to keep typing in red(dish) and Comic Sans. If the day of hearts is depressing to you because you have no Valentine, cheer up because we all love you and are here to be your Valentine! Yesterday I gave my husband's co-worker ( a female ), one dozen roses because she's been facing quite a few things lately. She was very appreciative as she told me she had been all bummed out because today was going to be Valentine's Day (and she is separated from a dead-beat husband). So, for all of you: What are your plans for the weekend (Fri/Sat/Sun)? Here: too many already for tomorrow! Today: no school for the kids (except dd will have to do SOME Biology), then drama for dd, and a movie with friends for ds. Me: filling out extension paperwork for my own schooling because, due to health issues, this session is not going well! Also tonight I will be going to what is called Friday Night Writes at a local bookstore. For $5.00, aspiring and published authors get to hear a published author speak about a particular topic in regards to writing. It's quite a lot of fun and I happen to personally know tonight's author. B-) Sat: Farmers Market, Bridal Shower, Intro to a year long writers workshop, and cookout with my niece is visiting. Sun: church and probably a nap! What are you most looking forward to this weekend? I'm giving myself the weekend off from studying (except for filling out extension paperwork), since I'm getting the extension. My brain just needs a break! Ordered any books lately? Me: yes! Two Paleo cookbooks and finally ordered MFW books for my dd15. I've been eyeing these since before the school year started! Finally told my dh it would help me stress less if I could use that curriculum. Mostly dd15 will be working independently, using the pre-planned Student Guide. Yay! Talk to me! :bigear:
  6. I don't know how long it's been since we all had fun together as a family. Just seems easier to do date nights or if with kids, with them separately. I would just like us to be able to ave fun as a family unit, you know? Kids are 9 and 15, with the oldest one with Aspergers and the youngest gifted so also very sensitive. Anyone have experience with this? Any advice?
  7. Twoxcell, that sounds quite fun! All, thanks for visiting. The Lounge is now closed until next Friday, which is Valentines Day.
  8. Glad to know we're both getting better little by little, Jean!
  9. I'm turning one corner of the Lounge into the nap room now. I'll but the divider screen up and there will be one cot and two easy chairs available for use. Well, actually I'll be in one of the easy chairs. If you come in while I'm sleeping, please just be quiet and don't mention coffee! :bored:
  10. following because my 9yo ds loves those books, too. Has not yet read Harry Potter series, though. But both he and my 15yo dd like the Riordin books and The Mysterious Benedict Society.
  11. Oh, Karen! So sorry! How is your kiddo feeling these days? Any better physically? As for laundry mountain, that's a daily occurrence here, so don't feel bad about that! Do you have any stores that have a delivery service near you? I'm not recommending you use that all the time but it might be helpful once or twice for you right now. I'll be praying for all of you! I've been dead tired most of the day, so I tried to have two DECAF soy lattes today, well spaced apart. Evidently my heartbeat doesn't approve! Blah. So, how else am I supposed to wake up on those rough days if I can't have caffeine, even decaf?? Have yet to find out if "the boys" are going camping this weekend. I sure hope they still are because I have plans! LOL Okay, now going to see if I can get MFW curriculum any cheaper than I've already figured it to be at it's least. Either way, I will convince my very Dutch dh that this is what needs to be purchased for my own sanity!
  12. Hope everyone is "happy" with dinner, Jean! Yes, it will be busy here. Thankfully, right now I'm able to rest. I'd try to nap but I think I'd be so sound asleep I'd forget to take the kids where they need to go today! Where is everyone?
  13. Aimee, keep us updated when you can. While I am older than you, I have been dealing with some similar symptoms, including the anemia. Sill trying to figure out what's going on but I have found that following the Paleo method of eating has helped reduce or eliminate (at least temporarily) some of the symptoms. I'm still waiting to get into the cardiologist. I'm interested to hear what yours says!
  14. ******YAWN****** Oh, excuse me! Busy, full day yesterday and a fast, hard sleep last night make it hard to wake up this morning. Woke up just in time for my weekly conference call! A little slow getting going this morning. However, Welcome to the Teachers Lounge! What's your schedule today? Here: conference call, do some History with the kids (finally!), then dd to drama, ds to a friend's for a play date, and researching discounted books for Ed's curriculum. I haven't told my husband yet but I plan on switching to a different History/Bible/English curriculum for her. I've tried to be my own lesson planner for over a semester but it just turns out to be to hazard. What's on the menu today? Here: darn good question. I'd love to have a donut but I'm following the Paleo method, which has greatly helped my health over the past 3 weeks, and a donut doesn't qualify. Sometimes it's hard to retrain your brain and your taste buds! What are you all up to this weekend? Here: dh and ds may be going camping this weekend. Have yet to get an affirmative on that. Dd and I will be going to an annual event called the Chocolate Affaire (it's like an Expo, but outside), and I recently discovered a high school classmate of mine is in town on business, so we're going to have brunch on Sunday. Somewhere in the midst of that, I need to menu plan, grocery shop, and get my own homework done. Whew! Talk to me! :bigear:
  15. [quote name="AimeeM" post="5459871" timestamp= He's enthusiastic, but I'm not sure he's *there* yet. He insists it isn't a "what he eats" thing, as much as it is that he doesn't work out. His other default is that he simply needs to work out more). It has been proven over and over again, including in my own life, that losing weight is 90% of what's "in the kitchen" (aka what you eat) and only 10% of what you eat. Last summer I worked out 5-6 days a week with TurboFire (precursor to PX90), and didn't really change what I ate. I didn't lose ANY weight, just an inch or two around my waist/hips/etc. And that was over the course of two to three months. Three weeks ago I put myself on the Paleo method of eating, as I described in my previous post, due to health issues. In that 3 weeks, I have literally lost about 14 pounds and I have only worked out twice in those 3 weeks. That being said, your husband will NOT do anything about his weight/health no matter how much you strongly encourage him to do so. HE has to truly WANT to do it. In my case, it was make some drastic changes so I could BREATHE. It gives me no pleasure to say that it may take a major health scare to get your husband's brain to think straight in regard to his health.
  16. Oh, and Avocados and almonds have some of the best "good fat" for your body.
  17. I "went paleo" a few weeks ago, due to health reasons. By modern weight definitions, I am obese, too, although I don't look like it. Anyway, the way I understand paleo I think would work for all of you: Allowed: vegetables and fruit (preferably organic, when you can), non-processed meats, nuts, seeds, and only natural sweeteners (but no agave nectar). Not allowed: legumes (chick peas, peanuts, garbanzo/white beans, kidney beans, etc), potatoes, grains, dairy, artificial sweeteners. It DOES take some time re-thinking what you eat, and I am still working on that. But, a couple of exampes that might work for you are: Lunch: make a BLT without the bread. Granted bacon is processed but occasionally you have to make exceptions just for time's sake! Anyway, today I had this for lunch: bacon, low sodium, no nitrate turkey lunchmeat, generously peppered, and tomato slices. Quite good! My snack later will consist of strawberries and blueberries. Omeletes without cheese but with veggies are good any time of the day. What modern medicine is currently learning, besides the fact that partially hydrogenated anything is poison to your system, is that fat is not what usually causes the weight and health issues, it's the inflammation caused by eating what your body can't handle. I would highly suggest following Paleo as I've shared it. For help with recipes, you can visit savingdinnerdotcom. LeAnn Ely has some great menu mailers, including a Paleo starter. HTH!
  18. I've been through that. It is a shock to the whole system. I know how you feel. So sorry.
  19. Margaret, that just wasn't nice! B) I really need to go visit some real mountains, not the foothills these Phoenicians call mountains.
  20. thanks, all, for visiting today! Enjoy your weekends! The Lounge is now CLOSED until next Friday. See you then!
  21. I feel so lonely in the Lounge. Both last week and this week, we have had very few people stopping by. Where is everyone?? Karen and Margaret, you know how much I want to be in Colorado, I may start stalking you! B) Just kidding! (Maybe.) Well, I'm about to haul my lazy derriere off the delapidated (sp?) computer chair and go scrub toilets. Oh, joy! Anyone want to do it for me? LOLOLOLOLOLOL :D
  22. The the earlies episodes (seasons 1 and 2) with Benedict Cumberbatch (yum!) and Martin Freeman we watched on Netflix. Season 3 (this year), I watch on PBS.org that day after it airs. We don't have regular tv or cable, which is why we watch it this way. It is most definitely PG-13/TV14. I don't agree with a previous poster stating it leans towards "R" in some parts. There are no swear words, there is a bit of blood sometimes (it's a murder mystery show, after all), and there are plenty of innuendos. Honestly, I think it's less offensive than most PG-13 movies out these days!
  23. Baseball mom, what is your secret? How did you get your kids to do that?? Jean, lest I sound like Magdalena Yoder in one of Tamar Myers Pennsylvania Dutch mysteries, while I am, in fact, I do not plan my own lessons nor grade my own work but for those that need it, let me clarify. No students, currently being homeschooled by this that or the other guardian, are allowed in the Lounge. And smart alecks may just find their way out into the elements. B) As for your mini-mission this weekend, you're right to do it and ignore any negative thoughts about it. Kudos to you! And now I need to read some more of my own homework (not being homeschooled, technically) before playing taxi to my daughter's drama class. Later, gators!
  24. Welcome to the LAST day of January 2014! How did THAT happen?? And Welcome to the Teachers Lounge! No Students Allowed! This is where Moms, Dads, guardians, grandparents, whoever is teaching the kiddos, can come relax, put your feet up, and shoot the breeze! Or take a nap! Might even have a snack! The current status in my house is one child studying, one outside playing with a friend, Mom (me) who just submitted an outline (shudder) for her own homework, and one sick hubby home from work. Despite being sick, he is currently, willingly, cooking me some eggs. He cooks them SO much better than I do, that I pretty much don't even cook them anymore. I'm taking a short break between homework assignments, then it's back to the books. My son may not get beyond the math homework he did this morning but I'm okay with that! Spent yesterday morning with sick hubby at the VA, don't remember much of the afternoon, and the evening not feeling well myself. I have discovered that wheat and I are no longer friends and think that might have been my stomach's nemesis yesterday. What's going on in your world? Any plans for the weekend? Here: ds has a boys choir audition tomorrow in the AM. Beyond that, I don't know! Talk to me! :bigear:
