  1. My dd15 goes to bed at 10:00 and wakes at 7:30. :)
  2. Thanks Lori for that encouragement! She gets it honest, I was exactly the same way in high school. I also struggled with the abstractness of it as well but now as an adult I somehow understand it so much more but definitely not so skilled in it that I can teach it. I do hate to see her struggle though. How did your son do with Geometry? Did he struggle with it as well or did he do okay? Just curious.
  3. My dd15 began Algebra I her freshman year, which was last year, and struggled with it from day one. We were using Teaching Textbooks and she hated it. By the time December rolled around, I knew we had to switch and try something different. I ordered Chalkdust. Mistake again! She still struggled with it and disliked it as well. By that time, it was around the end of March. I did some more research and decided to give BJU Algebra I a try and made the plunge and ordered the DVD program. Although by this time she dreaded and hated Algebra, she was at least understanding it and making good grades on her tests. She started the BJU program around the middle of April and is about 3/4 of the way finished. My dilemma now is that instead of starting Geometry back in August for her sophomore year like she should have, she is still working on Algebra I. This wouldn't necessarily be a problem if we were going to continue homeschooling but it looks like she'll be going to ps for her junior and senior year. I don't want her to be behind especially when it comes time to take her ACT. Not to mention the fact that she'll have to have that credit in order to fulfill the amount needed to enter ps as a junior. Do you think it would be too much to go ahead and start Geometry while she's finishing up with Algebra I? Would it be too much? I'm hoping someone can help me decide because I really don't want to load her down with too much math. Sorry for this post being so long! Thanks everyone! :)
  4. Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions and thanks for the encouragement. I think I may just give it a try. Looks like you've had pretty good success with it, hope you do as well this time around! :001_smile:
  5. After posting that, I realized I should just go to the website and take a look at it. The price would definitely be worth it! Did you do the extra plan with it or just the original diet plan? Just wondering. And a money back guarantee? That's even more awesome! Thanks!
  6. I couldn't help but read your thread because I'm wanting to drop about 10 - 15 lbs. before the holidays get here but am not sure I can do it before then. Maybe I could do this diet to get me started at least. I'm curious, how much does it cost?
  7. Stick with it! Muscle indeed weighs more than fat, so when you're adding strength training it may seem like you're not losing anything when in fact you are. As hard as it may be, don't pay attention to the scale! I've lost weight before and stayed around the same weight (only losing maybe 5 lbs.) but lost lots of inches and dropped several pant/shirt sizes. I've had to tell myself that it's just a number. As long as my body fits into the size I'm aiming for and I can see the muscle when I look into the mirror :), does it really matter what you weigh? For me, no! Just wanted to encourage you! Hang in there!
  8. I see what you mean. I was thinking they probably wouldn't cover vocabulary. I'll check it out like you mentioned. Thank you again for your help, I so appreciate it!
  9. Actually I had almost purchased Breaking the Barrier French but then heard about the Practice Makes Perfect workbooks and thought I might give them a try. Does the PMP workbooks provide vocabulary practice as well or just grammar? Thanks so much for responding!
  10. My daughter, who is a ninth grader this year, is studying French through our local library using Mango Languages. I'm wanting to supplement it with some workbooks (The Practice Makes Perfect series)to give her some written exercises to practice with but not sure which of their workbooks to begin with. I'm thinking maybe nouns and articles? Not sure. Any advice from those who may have used those would be great. Thanks so much for any help!
  11. My dd took a photography course for her 9th grade year. She used Oak Meadow's Introduction to Photography which is just a semester course but she also edits photos online and has countless hours built up doing that. Would that constitute a full year's credit in your opinion? If so, should I just title the course with one title or break it up into 1/2 credits with different titles like: Introduction to Photography/Digital Photography? Any good advice? Thanks :)
  12. Our library offers this program too and I actually wrote a post about inquiries but it got no response. I'm curious about it too. Did you use anything to supplement it? Would love to know.
  13. :iagree:I need the accountability too so I'll just keep up with what I'm doing now with using the 9 week grading period. I hate getting behind, it doesn't take much for me to feel overwhelmed and that would do it quick. Kareni - I would love to see a copy of your transcript. I'll send you a personal email. Thanks everyone for taking the time to post! It's helped to clear the clutter in my head.
  14. It makes sense to me now after reading your post. So basically I just do what I'm doing now but enter the grade on the transcript according to semesters. Right?
  15. I have checked Ebay for some Spanish curriculum when I thought she was going to choose it but I haven't checked there for French. Might give that a try before ordering anything.
  16. For those of you who grade, do you just wait and average grades at the end of the semester or do you grade by nine or six weeks? I'm thinking this is probably an ignorant question but for the life of me I'm stumped. I've always graded by nine week segments like our local ps and now that I'm figuring high school grades I've gone blank as to how to do it. I am wondering if high school should be different because of the semester thing.
  17. Thank you for responding to my post. I'll check it out. The pen-pal thing is a great idea!
  18. Thanks Lori for that explanation and list! I had decided to go ahead and spread WTTW out over a year like you suggested before reading your text so that's a confirmation. The list is valuable! Thank you for taking the time to respond to my post. Many Blessings!
  19. Analytical Grammar has "Teaching the Essay". It's a 5 paragraph Literary essay teaching though. We've used it and have found it easy to use.
  20. I'm not sure which to go with. My dd15 is wanting to study French this year for 10th grade. I want her to be able to use a curriculum that will teach her not only the written aspect of French but also a conversational aspect too. This will be her first year of studying a foreign language. Which of these two do you think would be better to reach that goal? Any suggestions? This is the only subject I have left for purchasing that I'm undecided on and not sure of. Any advice would be great and appreciated! Thanks so much!
  21. Do you think using these two together would be too much reading for a student in one year? My dd is an avid reader but I don't want to overwhelm her. Any suggestions?
  22. Yes, you can order the online courses. I know because I ordered the Algebra I DVD set from a local homeworks consultant. I didn't receive any discounts but did get free shipping which saved me about $32.
