  1. Our library has the Mango Languages available and we are contemplating using it for a credit of foreign language. I have two questions, do you think it's meaty enough to count as a credit (using self made worksheets and tests) and has anyone used it and found a workbook that is somewhat compatible? Just throwing that idea around to save on money. Thanks!
  2. Okay, one last question. Is the Physical Science course she took ( in 8th grade) the same as Earth, Space, and Physics? I'm not sure. If it is then that would be great and her schedule would probably look like this: Physical Science (8th grade) Biology (freshman year) Anatomy (sophomore year) Chemistry junior year) If it doesn't substitute then her schedule will probably look like this: Biology (freshman year) ESP (sophomore year) Anatomy (junior year) Chemistry(senior year) (which will make her having to take 4 sciences in high school instead of 3) What'ya think?
  3. Thanks Susan, for that tidbit of information! Very helpful to know! I've been homeschooling going into our 9th year but this high school stuff is a different animal! lol I feel as if I'm having to learn new all over again!
  4. Hmmm, well you may have talked me into just counting her physical science course for a HS credit. If I chicken out by thinking I may have trouble with that down the road at least now I have several options to consider. If I had to do it over again, I probably would have just waited until her 9th grade year to do Physical Science anyway since she's not going into any kind of science field after high school. Thanks so much Ladies for your advice! What would we do without these boards!
  5. Just found a Lifepac General Science III ( recommended for 9th grade) which covers earth science. I've never used a Lifepac before. Any reviews?
  6. My daughter took Apologia's Physical Science course in 8th grade so could I count that towards a high school science credit? I have found that BJU has an 8th grade earth science~would it stand as a high school level course in your opinion? The Teaching Company looks great! I'm not sure I could swing the price though. Thanks ladies for your suggestions!
  7. My daughter has to have an Earth, Space, and Physics science credit and I'm having a hard time finding a text for this. Can someone help me in finding a curriculum that's suited for high school? All the courses I'm finding are for 8th grade. My daughter will be in 10th. Thanks so much!
  8. After reading the posts for Visual Link Spanish I checked it out for myself because I was also looking for a spanish curriculum for the 10th grade daughter this fall. It looks great! I'm looking at ordering it but was wondering for those of you who have used it, have you found a way to test your students after covering each section? I know it says there are written quizzes but notice they don't mention any sort of test except for the online tests that are optional but not sure I'd want to do that. I'd rather have something written for her to take for an actual "grade". Just wondering. Thanks!
  9. When I see these kinds of posts I always tell myself I'm not going to read them because they make me so sad.......well, I always read them anyways. No one should have to make that kind of decision. So sorry for the loss of your family friend!
  10. It's the older edition so that's why I am thinking I probably could use it for half a credit of earth science.
  11. Yes, I possibly could count it as half of a credit and tack on a semester of space and physics somehow to make it a full science credit. She needs 3 science credits with one of those credits being an earth/space/physics so I was thinking somehow her geography could count for the earth part. She'll meet her history credits with no problem so was just wondering if I could flip those. Hmmmm, decisions, decisions! Thanks!
  12. Yeah after thinking it over I suppose that would be stretching it a little. The course they describe as Earth Science pertains to geology, meteorology, and so forth so that wouldn't work. We studied just the physical and social aspects of the world with no labs. Thanks for the comments!
  13. My daughter took BJU's World Geography course this past year for her freshman year. I intended it to be counted toward a history credit but am now wondering if it could be counted toward a science instead say as an earth science course which is required in the state of Kentucky for graduation. Would that be legitimate in your opinion? Just wondering.
  14. Ok, so maybe I will hold on to all of her work. I probably would have anyway in another place just in case. It would definitely be easier to keep it just in case than to not have it and one day need it. I'll wait until she's graduated from college before trashing it all! lol I've never used Homeschool Tracker or any other program for keeping up with grades, just the old fashioned way. A page being able to show all the grades and materials would be nice! Maybe someone can chime in on that one and let us know. Thanks everyone again!
  15. In years past I have just used a 3-ring binder that I've gotten from Sam's and they have worked fine up until my dd15's freshman year this past year. I can't seem to fit it all in. I keep her graded work, lab write-ups, her list of books read, essays/writings, and tests. I think I need to include all of this so I'm wondering if something else work would better. I'm thinking of using the cardboard banker's boxes you see in WalMart but not sure. Just curious as to what you use that works good.
  16. My 15 year old daughter went to see it today. I just asked her what she thought. She said there wasn't anything bad in it that she could think of but didn't know if it would be something a 10 year old would be interested in seeing. She liked it though. So it's a yes here.
  17. My daughter used Rod and Staff from 4th to 8th grade. She had a very solid foundation of grammar to say the least. She is currently using Analytical Grammar this year and it's been a lighter load of English thus far. We're going to try and finish the book in one year and then focus more on Essay/Research writing and literature for the remainder of her high school years. I have the review workbook from AG as well and plan on having her complete one of those every couple of weeks throughout those remainder years. Now I'm debating whether to just use Analytical Grammar with my younger daughter all the way through instead of R&S. Haven't decided yet. For those of you questioning AG, I recommend it. It's very thorough yet easy to grasp. No complaints here so far.
  18. [QUOTE=Julie in MN;1469413]Not a book, but you might search for a mentor in your area who can show her how to develop her own film. My dh has done this for a homeschooler who was going into wedding photography. Then she went off to spend a year in college learning how to start her own business. Also, my ds and dh did photography as part of last year's "shop class" and one thing they did was tromp around in the snow and take interesting outdoor photos. Then they edited things on the computer like faded edging and such. Finally, they chose frames & gave several as Christmas gifts. Just a couple of ideas, Julie Haven't thought of the idea of asking someone, I actually know of a couple of people I might could sweet talk into doing that for us. She has edited quite a few pictures on the computer and does a wonderful job at it. All of these ideas are what I was looking for. Now to choose which book to go with.... Thanks again for everyone's suggestions!
  19. Thanks Angie for that recommendation, I'll check that out as well.
  20. Thank you so much ladies for the recommendations! I'm going to check them out now. The daily assignment ideas would be a great help. Blessings to each of you!
  21. We have used VFCR for about five years now for dd14. We absolutely recommend it. I find her all of the time commenting on knowing words based on her vocabulary lessons. I love the Greek and Latin roots it provides. No bad reviews here!
  22. Would anyone have any suggestions on what to use as a "textbook type source" for a photography class? My daughter is needing one half credit to complete her freshman year. She absolutely loves taking pictures, is very creative and original in taking snapshots, and I would love to be able and utilize this passion of hers by giving her credit for it. If I remember correctly, I recall someone suggesting some sort of book that could be used but I've slept since then. I would greatly appreciate it if anyone has any ideas! Thanks a bunch!
