  1. ok, so i've read a lot of posts about fat loss 4 idiots...i'm thinking of giving it a go!! 11 days should be doable enough..definitely not easy, but doable...at least there is an end in sight with this... does anyone want to start this with me on monday? i'm in abu dhabi so my day and night will be different from a lot of you, but i could really use the encouragement of someone else going through it with me? seema
  2. I looked through some old threads on this and I'm interested. Can someone tell me if there is a daily calorie goal? Or does it give you serving sizes for your choices....like are you losing this weight because you are so hungry, or are you able to really fill up on your chosen foods for that day. Thanks, Alison
  3. MomsintheGarden and I are starting the Fat Loss for Idiots diet again today. This will be the fourth time I have done this 11-day diet, with the first time being two years ago. We have regenerated the diet to include a list of foods which are more available and also more appealing to MomsintheGarden. FYI, my previous results have been detailed in this post made when I last did this diet 13 months ago. My starting weight for this round is 195.9 lbs. This is on a new, more accurate, bathroom scale which I think matches the Wii Fit scale closely. As such, this puts me up ~15 lbs. from my weight of 181.0 lbs. at the end of the diet 13 months ago. Given that about 2 lbs. of that came off immediately at the end of the diet, I estimate that I have been gaining, on average, about one pound each month. Still I am about 30 lbs. lighter than I was two years ago and I am much more active than I was then. Two 11-day periods each year equates to dieting for 22 days or about 3 weeks, which is about 6% of the time. Given that I always start on Monday or Tuesday, I only diet during two weekends each year or 4% of the weekends. I think this level of dieting should be maintainable for me, long-term, since there are sufficient breaks between diets. Only time will tell. MomsintheGarden's starting weight is classified, although I will say that she weighs a LOT less than I do. We will try to keep the whining to a minimum over the next eleven days, but we would appreciate you keeping us in your prayers! Finally, has anyone else been using Fat Loss for Idiots for maintenance as well as the initial weight loss? If so, what has been your experience?
  4. OK, deep breath...I've tried to lose weight in the past 3.5 yrs since my youngest was born. I've only been able to lose about 11 lbs or so and always gain most of it back:glare:. I want to lose about 20 lbs to be at a "good" weight for me. I know that I don't eat very healthy. I can admit that. I need to seriously cut down on how much I eat for one thing. Plus all the creamer in my coffee doesn't help at.all. One part of the problem is hunger. I feel hungry a lot. Even if I just ate 20 min. before hand. I have seriously been considering appetite suppressants (sp?). Could anyone rec one that's safe and natural? Another thing I've noticed for...well, since I've been a teen-ager is if I go too long with not eating, I get the shakes pretty badly. What can I do about that?? I hate it. I really do. Also, to my down fall, I don't like many veggies. Green beans, lettuce, cucs, carrots, potatoes (that's a veg, right?). That's about it. Very limiting, I know! Everytime I've tried losing weight in the past I've done the Leslie Sansone dvd's, which are great, but I'm not sure they really worked for me, you know? I love cardio that's fun and I liked her, I just didn't get the results that I wanted. What would you reccommend? I thank whoever replies to me. I really need a lifestyle change. I not only want to lose weight (and keep it off) but I want to be heathier too!!
  5. It seemed like the first thread was getting quite long, so I'm starting a new one. I decided to sign up for this diet. I picked 30 food choices, but the menus are so weird. Why do I get Scrambled Eggs with cashews when bacon or some other meat would seem more logical? And then another menu shows ham slices and bacon. Isn't that redundant? How is everyone doing on this? Did anyone decide to try the regular diet instead of the generated one? I think I'm starting on Monday.
  6. And I have surprisingly lost 6 pounds and I am only on day 7! I'm shocked. Seriously shocked. I have only felt hungry on one day, and that was day two when all I got to eat all day was a sandwich and as much fruit as I wanted. I find it hard sometimes to get that 4th meal in, but I do it about 90% of the time. I find it hard, because I am not hungry. It's weird. I also had to cheat one day due to circumstances out of my control, and I have still lost. :confused: I am hoping and praying it continues. I know it's probably a lot of water weight, but considering I cannot...CANNOT...seem to loose weight, water or otherwise, with any other diet I have tried the last two years, I'm pretty excited to be down 6 pounds. I've tried Weight Watchers three times. The first time was about four years ago and I lost 18 pounds rather effortlessly...though hungrily...kept it off for a year and then gradually gained it back along with an extra 10 pounds. The second time was last year and I stuck to the program religiously for two weeks and did not lose a single pound. I gave up. The third time was about six months ago, and when after two weeks of starving myself on low fat food I GAINED two pounds, I threw up my hands in disgust and again...gave up. I've tried Live to Eat (oops...I mean Eat to Live. lol), the MUFA diet, etc., and nothing. This is the first time my body has responded to weight loss in a very, very long time. :D
  7. Educate me! I "think" I found their website. Am I right that this costs $$? Sigh, and here I was hoping it was free! Is it worth it? I've got - ahem - a LOT of weight to lose. I just started yesterday trying to shock my body and give myself time to get a plan: I'm doing Atkins shakes all day, with a normal protein/veggies dinner at night. SO - give it to me straight, girls. Worth it, or no?
  8. I know there is another thread going but honestly I cannot figure out how to follow threads when they get that long (I technically do know how to but find it difficult). I started today so tomorrow is my fruit day. Of course, I am already looking forward to my sandwich. I am wondering if those with experience have any tips on getting through this day. I am planning on my sandwich for an early dinner (maybe around 4:00) if I can wait that long. I know I'm going to want it for breakfast!! Any tips for getting through the day tomorrow? How is everyone else doing? Anyone else exercising besides the walking that is recommended? Thanks, Marie
  9. I'm 5'2" and normally of small build (around 110 give or take) depending upon the day. I generally eat healthy (choose veggies/baked over fried or high calories/high fat foods) though I pretty much eat what I want just in moderation/small portions. Long story short - I'm 46 and I've been here two other times in my life - once just after college on the heals of studying/eating fast food more than exercising/eating healthy and once just before I turned 40. Both times I had terrific success with WW and BFL, respectively, coupled with exercising 5-6 times/week. This brings me to now, my third time of needing to lose weight but with one significant difference - it's not budging despite similar efforts as before. (Let me qualify this by saying I have yet to be as faithful to BFL with my eating as I was before but I have definitely instituted the exercise. With what I *have* been doing I would have, based on past experience, fully expected *something* to happen but to no avail). I've determined the root of the problem. I am convinced my metabolism came to a screeching halt when I turned 45. :ack2: Basically, the weight started creeping on around that birthday and then it took the whole next year to solidify it's place in my life (2008). By the start of this year, I realized the problem and knew I had to do something about it. With our renovations more of a "when we feel like it" rather than a driving force in our life, I plugged back in to 5-6 six day a week of alternating cardio with weight resistance. When that didn't do anything, I began to do 20 mins of cardio even on the weight res days. NOTHING HAS HAPPENED! I am so very tired of having to squeeze into my clothes each day. I have no desire to buy the next size up. My desire to take care of this issue in my life is further enhanced by the fact that I depart 9/5 (we depart 9.5 weeks from today!) on a 20th anniversary trip with my dh to Alaska. I do NOT want this weight going with me!!! :( I'd especially love to hear from those of you over 40 who have crossed a bridge similar to my own (slower metabolism horribly affected your ability to do something that you found "doable" in the past - lose weight). Please tell me there is some natural way to boost metabolism! Many TIA for any and all thoughts you can give on this! I'm really becoming demoralized over this...... Sharon ("Overweight in '08, looking fine in '09" has been my motto - just need to see it happen!) :-P
  10. Any one lost 5 pounds or so in a couple of weeks? I'm leaving on a cruise in 2 weeks and would like to drop 5 lbs or so (more if possible) before I go. Know any diets that might accomplish this, something easy to follow? I am walking every day 30-60 minutes, so not a lot of exercise, but some. Thanks! Kirsten
