  1. Night by Elie Weisel is a pretty graphic book, in some respects, but I think it is a book every person should read.
  2. When I taught ps (9th grade English) we watched Star Wars and did analysis on archetypes!
  3. OOps! I quoted the wrong post! To clarify...I was not a pedophile, I was the victim. And, I still hate Algebra!
  4. I haven't read the responses after this, but I couldn't help but respond to this. Francine Rivers is not even in the same league with Tony Morrison. No offense, I like Francine Rivers for a beach read or something like that; but to compare that to the works of Morrison is ridiculous, in my opinion... Now, do I think every 11th or 12th grader should read TBE, no. Not every student will be ready for that kind of topic or style of writing. I read TBE in college and it was a book that really changed my life. If your students will be taking lit. classes in college, they will meet up with this literature, just be aware.
  5. We are doing TC Prealg too. I really like it so far. We had some trouble in the beginning and I emailed the author, he CALLED me and chatted with me for about 45 min. ON A SATURDAY! What does that say a out customer service???? We have just about found our groove with it. If my son continues to like it, we will certainly use it through high school (or what is available)!
  6. You could always white out the lesson numbers...then your kids won't know... ;)
  7. Oh, sorry! Hunter, yes, now I remember it was you! Ellie has helped me with so many Spalding questions, I just thought it was her! Sorry Ellie! And I feel like there are so many used or second hand copies out there, that it is easy to get a hold of. At our little homeschooling store here in Pensacola had 5-6 copies. Www.homeschoolbooksmart.com if anyone wants to order one!

  9. I bought the 6th edition simply because it was $2 at the half price bookstore, and I had wondered about the program. As I as reading, I really found myself agreeing with the method and wanted to implement it (as we had been looking for a new phonics program). I started really concentrating on the "nuts and bolts" of what to do each day. I just felt like the directions and examples were all over the place. I think the author must have thought that it would be easier to put all the examples in the back. In my opinion, it just made things more confusing. I wanted to be able to read a section with the examples right there, not have to go "searching somewhere else" for the example pages. On a whim, I decided to get the fourth edition because that is one people seem to like. WOW, soooooooo much easier to understand! The example pages are right there next to the section in which it is described! I am now going through my 6th edition and putting all of my notes in my lovely new 4th edition. Want my advice? Listen to Ellie, (or me) and get the fourth edition. It will help tremendously as you start out!
  10. I would tell them to make sure to let teachers and principals know that bullying is going on and needs to be stopped. With so many people taking DRASTIC measures to "get even" with bullies, there are many anti-bullying campaigns. You don't want your kids to grow up thinking they must just endure bullies or they may one day explode. I might also just say, BULLIES SUCK!
  11. Love, love, love the idea of personal memory books! I might have to steal this idea!
  12. He was a classroom teacher so you know he just isn't out to make money!
  13. Halcyon, he was VERY helpful! I think with our discussion on the phone, I now have a plan with which to go forward to help my son be successful.
  14. I did email the tc guy and he got back to me right away and then called me when he had follow up questions for me! I mean, REALLY? I paid only $49.00 for this and he has customer service THAT good? I hope this program ends up being a good fit for my son, because if it is, I will stick with it through high school! Still haven't figured out my science fusion issue yet!
  15. Double The Courage of Sara Noble. Sarah was the first female character my daughter identified with. And, can you access your library system online? I would do my searches when the kids were in bed and make notes of the books I found in the cc online. I know what you mean about ease though. I am now in a place that NEVER has ANY book I am looking for, hence we have just about stopped going to the library!
  16. I don't know this program, but can you sub books that you do have in the library?
  17. We love this program. We just use the student pages nd the cd. The kids really know the stories at the end!
  18. I know that many of you are using these two products and thought I might see if you could help me with a couple of issues we have been encountering. Tablet Class - It keeps kicking my son off mid video. It doesn't do this on my tablet. My dh tried doing updates and then using googlechrome, but it still kicked him off today. It kicked us both off at the same time today. I know the browser matters, I just can't seem to fix the problem. Science Fusion - My son's library has no resources. I thought maybe it was because I had not created any assignments, but I went back and created one, and the resources still did not show. On his account, it just says ask your teacher or librarian...his teacher is stumped!
  19. I would go without shoes all day if I could! My feet hate the things, but I would like to think my kids are learning a thing or two.
  20. Would like to know too as my son will be starting TC Pre-alg soon!
  21. For my 9th grade public schoolers I would give them a monthly calendar, write the daily homework on the board, and also had a website that was updated daily. I would also pause during class to give them an opportunity to write down the homework from the board. So they had three opportunities to see and record their assignments.
