  1. Our 2nd & K students are now in public school. We had homeschooled up until now, and I'm trying to navigate the transition. We're still doing Bible in the morning before they leave. Afternoons right now are in flux as we try to get used to new schedules. What have you found works for your family in the after school - bed time hours to provide a good balance of family time, homework/learning time, and unwinding time?
  2. Completely agree that a conversation with the parent should have been the first move to help determine what's going on. Unless CA is vastly different from the other states where I and my husband have previously taught, it's not being extended to the teachers, either. It's not uncommon at all for teachers to still need to be on duty throughout the lunch period. In larger schools we had a planning period, but often in the smaller ones we didn't. Dealing with pregnancy bladder while teaching was harsh ~ I'd have to ask a fellow teacher to stand between the doors of our classrooms while I raced as quickly as possible.
  3. Anyone else hear a sonic boom about 2:15 CT? We're in Northeast Missouri.
  4. We're obviously living in the wrong state (take that quoted salary, divide by 3, then subtract, after 15 years experience). And the wrong school district, since DH doesn't even get a lunch break ~ he has to eat while supervising his students in the lunchroom.
  5. Adding a plug for Tutor.com . I've tutored with them for over 6 years now and found it to be a great solution for us. :)
  6. Enjoy! I spent time there as an exchange student what now seems like several lifetimes ago. :)
  7. Aren't they great? :) I keep mine pretty simple. About 3 oz of spinach fills my blender loosely with 1 cup water to start. Then I'll add in another fruit ~ peach, apple, etc. and finish off with a handful or two of frozen banana slices. I buy the bags of super-ripe bananas that go on sale cheaply, then slice and freeze them for smoothies.
  8. My aunt went to St. John's for her undergraduate degree and found it to be a very good experience.
  9. Thank you so much for sharing this breakthrough with us. Treasure this beautiful gift and help it sustain you when you need it.
  10. Usually I'll use a PM if it's something that I really wouldn't want posted for all the world to see, but pertains to a question somebody has asked here. That, or arranging details for buying curriculum on the for sale board. :)
  11. Happy anniversary! (It's a good day for a 13th anniversary ~ us too!)
  12. I'm hoping that there's an easy way to do this that I just haven't discovered. I'd like to be able to easily add web sites for the kids to visit as part of their school work, sort of a "today's tasks" type of thing. Has anyone found a good way to do this? Thanks!
  13. I don't remember. That sounds awful to say, but it just came out of natural conversations around the house, so it wasn't planned out according to any certain approach.
  14. Whew! Relieved to hear that he was so close to home.
