When I got mine I read through a week at a time, then went back and re-read it. Then I got a piece of notebook paper and wrote down what I wanted them to read, then the mapwork, activities, etc. I did this one week at a time, one subject at a time.
I have the DE version so I also highlighted what I wanted to do.
Then I set it aside for a couple of days and went back and looked at what I wanted them to read, do, etc. to see if it was too much.
This sounds like a lot of planning but now that I have done this for the first 6 weeks, it is much easier. I am not re-reading things because i understand how it works now.
A lot of users say there is a confusing "TOG fog" but it didn't seem that confusing to me, I just needed to take time to understand how it works.
the SAPs are for the children so they know what is expected of them.
The reading assigments are for you and them.
The teacher notes are for you so you can teach them.
The answers for the accountability questions are in there also.
I am not using the lit sections but the questions, answers, etc. are there also.
TOG is not something you can use if you have to do EVERY thing that is there.
For example, we are not doing mapwork but just looking at the maps that are already marked.
We are not doing the lit sections or the worksheet for the specific book that they have listed. We aren't doing all of the activities or reading all the books. But we are still getting A LOT out of TOG.
We just started using TOG and are using year 1 with all the levels because I have 7 kids.
