  1. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TOGLoo...6%20Booklists/ There are lists for Years 1, 2 and 3. I am a member of this but can't open this file. Does anyone have it?
  2. Looks great to me! We are in week 3 and are actually getting everything done even though this is the first year I am homeschooling all 7 kids. I think it's because I have FINALLY found the right curric for each child!
  3. When my current 10 yo dd was about 8 I hit a brick wall with her reading. She was still using some phonics program ( can't recall which one) but her reading was not improving. I finally decided to drop all phonics and have her read real books. We started with SL core 3 books. At first she was asking me what ever other word was. I did not tell her to sound it out or anything else, I just told her the word. Within 6 months she went from stmbling through very simple phonics books to reading chapter books such as "Pocahontas and the Strangers." For her the rules were a major stumbling block.
  4. Thanks. I'm looking at The World Today and considering that. I am also looking at TOG YR 4 unit 4.
  5. Any reccomendations? USA history after 1998.
  6. I'm looking for US history after 1998 since that is where Hakim's book stops. I know I have lived it but with 7 kids my teenagers need their own work. lol
  7. I just started my 8 yo and 10 yo using TT. My almost 7 yo needs math too and is not the child I can sit down and teach. He needs TT!!! LOL Buy he is not ready for 3rd.
  8. Does anyone know if they plan to come out with grade 2?
  9. I have tried to read this as an adult and it bored me to tears!!! A 7 year old reading it?? Really???
  10. I tried BJU and while I liked the way it taught it took too much time and really, I HATE teaching math. I'd rather chew glass. TT is better for us because I don't have to do anything but BUY IT!!! lol
  11. Does your husband mind??? Seriously??? Geez...there is something really wrong with her!! Congrats to you!!!
  12. When I got mine I read through a week at a time, then went back and re-read it. Then I got a piece of notebook paper and wrote down what I wanted them to read, then the mapwork, activities, etc. I did this one week at a time, one subject at a time. I have the DE version so I also highlighted what I wanted to do. Then I set it aside for a couple of days and went back and looked at what I wanted them to read, do, etc. to see if it was too much. This sounds like a lot of planning but now that I have done this for the first 6 weeks, it is much easier. I am not re-reading things because i understand how it works now. A lot of users say there is a confusing "TOG fog" but it didn't seem that confusing to me, I just needed to take time to understand how it works. the SAPs are for the children so they know what is expected of them. The reading assigments are for you and them. The teacher notes are for you so you can teach them. The answers for the accountability questions are in there also. I am not using the lit sections but the questions, answers, etc. are there also. TOG is not something you can use if you have to do EVERY thing that is there. For example, we are not doing mapwork but just looking at the maps that are already marked. We are not doing the lit sections or the worksheet for the specific book that they have listed. We aren't doing all of the activities or reading all the books. But we are still getting A LOT out of TOG. We just started using TOG and are using year 1 with all the levels because I have 7 kids.
  13. I looked at both and what finally decided it for was that TOG could be used again and is soooo thorough in the higher grades. I think it's better to get it while they are younger to give YOU time to learn how to teach with it. Starting now, by the time your oldest is in Rhetoric, you will have had plenty of time to teach it the right way. IMO!! lol
  14. BJU for math and history. Abeka for science. I don't like either for grammar and writing.
  15. Do you know how many pages each ink refill will get? TIA! Tammy
  16. Can you list what printer/copier you use, how much you paid for it and how much the ink is AND how many copies you can make with it? I have a HP Deskjet F2430 printer, scanner, copier. We only paid 30.00 for it BUT the ink is this wee, little bit of ink that "supposedly" prints 200 pages for 15.00. Tammy
  17. I just started using it with my 10,7,and 6 year olds. LG and UG. IMO it is worth it for them because it helps me to have a plan, but not a daily, set in stone plan. There are lots of hands-on activities. I am using YR 1 and am finding it very easy to subsitute books. Plus knowing i will be using it again and i don't have to keep looking for another curric is an added bonus! I do not do everything TOG has listed, for example, the lapbooks. We don't do them. Even my 3 and 5 yos are getting quite a bit from TOG. Tammy
