  1. I am planning out our year and need to make a daily lesson plan for working through Total Health by Susan Boe. I was wondering if anyone here has already done that and would like to share them with me??/:D TIA!!
  2. Heart of Dakota does exactly what you are asking. History and Science is learned through some of the greatest living books! The kids love them and so do I. The neatest thing is that most of the books used are not common and I would never have found them on my own, but each one is a true gem. Check it out at www.heartofdakota.com
  3. We all love Heart of Dakota. It's easy. The Teacher's Guide is fabulous. It's CM. It's a 4 day plan, so that leaves a whole day for outside activities or drs. appts, etc... The living books that go with the program are some of the very best books I have ever read and I love to read -- average 1 book a week, all year, every year -- in addition to what the kids are reading. I can not say enough good about it. :D Stephanie in TN

  5. Just wanted to add that IEW has free shipping through the month of July. :) Stepanie in TN
  6. We have used Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing for all of our children. They like it and have never complained. It has a lesson with practice that is followed by a game. It's easy and inexpensive. We bought ours at Wal-Mart for about $20. 7. I agree. I have used TOG Map Aids with Year 1 Redesign and the answers are on the Teacher's Key. I had to print them all off to save my sanity! :) Stephanie married to dh for 20 years 9 children from 30 to 3 -- some are adopted, but we forgot which ones ;) HOD CTC SOS English TT Math Feed My Sheep IEW
  8. I like to start at 8am -- doesn't always happen :glare: -- The 3 oldest must have morning chores taken care of before then -- this means eating, dressing, brushing teeth, tidy bedrooms, prepare lunch (I have each child pack a lunch, drink and snacks, and bring it with them to the classroom. We were taking an hour to have lunch in the past and leaving a huge mess in the kitchen every day. They were driving me crazy with arguing about what to eat, etc...All of my oldest can cook and consider themselves very skilled at it. They tend to be a bit picky about food temps, flavors, etc...) SO...they have to figure all that out before 8am. They can keep it cold and warm it in the micro...or just bring snacky type things like cheese and crackers...I don't really care, as long as they eat healthy and quick:). 8am Scripture discussion and memory work -- everyone together 8:30-10am alternate between subjects done independantly on computer and meeting with me...each child gets 30 min of my attention (SOS English, Calvert Spelling Mastery CD, Typing, TT Math) 10-2 HOD Creation to Christ -- we just follow the boxes Kids eat while I'm reading aloud to them -- I snack while teaching 2 - 3 piano and guitar practice -- finish up any subjects on computer as needed The 4 hour block in the middle of the day also has thrown into it my rising K4ds. I am still working on what exactly that will look like. The biggest problem I have had over the years with our school day is ALL OF THE INTERRUPTIONS!:glare: Hungry kids, phone calls, emails, laundry, housework, illness, friends need things, neighbors need things, hubby needs things, drs. appts. etc.... etc...etc..... If I could just figure out how to get people (people I truly love! :)) to give me the same courtesy now that they would give me if I were teaching in a public classroom -- without disappointing them or hurting their feelings, we would actually get a lot accomplished every day....:D Does anyone else have this problem? What do you do about it? :bigear: Stephanie in TN married to great dh for 20 years 9 children....from 30yrs old to 3yrs old ...some are adopted, we forgot which ones...;) SOS English -- TT Math -- Calvert Spelling Mastery Cds -- Mavis Beacon Typing -- HOD CTC for History, Science, Bible, Dictation, Reading -- Feed My Sheep Art
  9. We have been using BJU Math for the last several years. I am thinking about switching to TT this year, just to free myself up some. Ds is rising 7th and dd is rising 5th. Both are good in math. I've heard good things about them both. Has anyone used both? What do you think? Wise decision or not? Is TT just 'as good'? Thanks in advance for your help. Stephanie in TN
  10. I am going back and forth between using Sonlight Core 5 with my 7th and 5th grader or Heart of Dakota Creation to Christ this fall. Does anyone have any thoughts or ideas about this? Pros and Cons? I am leaning towards HOD because it covers so many different subjects, but I haven't used it, so it may not be as great as I think it will be. I've only read great things about SL core 5. Many people say it is/was there favorite core, so I don't want to miss it for sure. Can I possibly combine the two by just using the readers and read alouds of Core 5 and not the history part? Thanks in advance for all your insight! Sincerely, Stephanie
  11. I have it and love it. I am saving it for my ds and dd when they will be in 6th and 4th or possibly 7th and 5th. I had not considered using it for a younger age. I love this program and only you know how much your child can take in. Noeo is very similar in some ways and you may like to check it out for 3rd gradeif you decide you want to save the BF for later. 12. I am surprised by the above posts. I had elevated liver enzymes while nursing my 3rd baby and my OBGYN said that was normal and would go back down several months after I stopped nursing. My 3rd child is now 8 years old and I have a 4th and no problems whatsoever. I am hoping with you that your daughter will recieve the same report that I did.:) Sincerely, Stephanie
  13. The first year we used TOG Redesigned Year 1 and it was GREAT. The second year we skipped and went to year 3 classic, because many of our friends were going to be using it together. Classic is much different from Redesign in my opinion. It was much harder to navigate and also we had a hard time finding any of the books at our library, so I was having to buy books for 2 levels! It got very expensive and frustrating for me. I love TOG and will go back to it when my kids are older. Right now we are using Winter Promise, and hopefully it will be a good fit for the next 5 years until we are ready for TOG again! HTH, Stephanie
  14. That does help! Thank you. And, I have never heard of Biblioplan. I am going to check it out right now. I have been homeschooling for 7 years, but we have used Abeka, Alpha Omega, and Sonlight. I am just now learning about all of these wonderful options that I never knew were available before. I have no idea what "well trained mind" actually is or means, but I do like the classical Charlotte Mason type of learning, now that I have discovered it!! :D Thanks so much, Stephanie
  15. Hi, I am looking into My Father's World, Winter Promise, or Tapestry of Grace for grades 2nd-6th. I don't know much about MFW or WP, and a litte about TOG. I would like any information you can provide. What does a day look like with each of these? How much teacher prep, time, hands on projects, etc.. is there? I would like a good balance of reading, worksheets, and hands on. Do you like the Instructor's Guide? Is it mom friendly or time intensive? Anything else you would like to add would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much in advance for all your insight! Sincerely, Stephanie:bigear:
