  1. Thank you Amy. Sounds good. I am glad someone knew about the cd-rom version. Which is what I am interested in. Another question. with the cd-rom.
  2. I am thinking of purchasing Kinetic Books Pre-Algebra - 1-Year License - CD Version [66865-8-9.IN] for my soon 8th grader next year. Is the cd the same as the online version except you get to install to the computer with the cd? Will he be able to use the curriculum without having an internet connection? Do I need to purchase anything else with it? Do your children like it? Does it go through a planned progression as for as table of contents go so my son could simply know which lessons to do next? I ask this because I got a online math curriculum before and didn't like that I still pretty much has to put everything together. It was so confusing trying to navigate through it. I know I could call them, but I like to get a homeschooler's perception of it and know how's because it's more personal. One can talk to a salesman anytime and they will always tell you it's the tops! This is very important to me, because math was the only subject that made us so stressed with frustration. He just seems to comprehend it more when he can see the concepts on the pc. than his watching his mom demonstrate with a dry erase board. I bought Teaching Textbooks and my son picked up on concepts away. I believe he would do well with Kinetic Prealgebra base on the one example that I have seen. It seems to be more informative, furthermore, I am on a budget and just can't afford the TT Pre-algebra prices this year. I like being able to go in an reinforce what he has learned with regards to math, and we both stress less. Please help. I want to do the right thing or see if I need to look elsewhere for interactive pre-algebra curriculum. Any info is appreciated and please feel free to pm and email me too. Theresa G.
  3. Because you love her very much, please pull her out now! Pull her out while you are still the voice in your relationship and stilll have an ear. If she stays then her ears may end of listening to her friends and their words will start to weigh more than yours, to her. She is still so very young and if you wanted her to be in a public school atmosphere than you would have put her there. I have seen quite a few homeschool organizations do this , and allow people recently from public school with only a few years. even month ,even, of homeschooling. They start to think about $ signs instead the interest of children who have solely been homeschool. While it is good that the children are now homeschooling , there has yet to be a process set up to permit them to leave the negative social baggage of pubic school behind, thus they incorporate it into the new environment and sadly usually on apple starts to spoil the whole bunch but when there's a barrel of bad apples , you even lose the original taste, smell ,and look of the bunch. Please take her out , but be ready to introduce her to something old from the past like( horses ect ) and something new that she can embrace that will get her mind focused in a new direction. You've read her diary there has got to be something in there that she likes which you can incorporate in her new change.
  4. I agree, since he doesn't like writing and I will do language arts 2nd. I plan to add some writing activities to easy grammar plus, so this should work out great.
  5. I see you have time for writing project., What my son dislikes most is writing projects, can you pm with tips to get him interested or if you have the time tell me what do you use for writing progects. I just went along with abeka's book but this coming year I am using easy grammar plus, it is the prior ed. without writing assignment . I forgot about that unitl I saw your schedule. Let me know more about it , if you have the time. Thanks
  6. 2:00 - 3:15 Check work and Discussion with Mom, That's good I never had a set time for that before. I thinks I will do it this year. Thanks,
  7. Good Idea to go exploring. I think will take a trip to the historical down town area for that . I am really seeing how insightful you all are. It helps to not have have all of these wonderful suggestions and scheduling information. I am starting to be able to put something together now , Thanks, :) you all are fantastic! group hug!:grouphug:
  8. Aimie, I like your idea , if he pops in , only 15 mins. with dad then back to work. I think that will do. I never know what day or time he's going to pop in or not. I always ask what is his work schedule for that day and week, but he never always says he doesn't know when he would take a break or not. I think if I make 15 min a set rule then they will know what to expect. You know sometimes when a person is in a situation , and your emotions and thoughts are so tied in to it , it tends to be difficult to think of such solutions. I think I was so frustrated about it I just couldn't think. I just felt like I was the bad guy for telling the kids to get back to work and for 2 years, he had a long commute to work and would leave in the morning hours and make it home when the children were going to bed. So I think this is one reason why he pops in, but it would wack out my plans for the day. Perhaps it was mostly me , but I didn't like have to change things I had planned, not just school but other projects too , because he popped in unnounced. I am going to ask him to at least give me a 30 min. notice if knows he is coming home , this way I have a little time to change my priorities. thanks, Theresa
  9. Thanks you guys, I am getting some idea on what I could do. Any ideas on how I can get the children to stay focused when day just pops in on a break from work and changes my days plans. Maybe , I need to come up with a back up plan for when dad pops in , but just don't know. Should , I make that time snack time or somthing so they will be more ready and willing to get back to it? Forexample, I would be schooling , then he comes home and wants me to do something for him, or the kids are excited to see him so they rush through their work," I can tell because the handwriting gets sloppier and ans. more careless" They want to spend time before he goes back to work. ect. But at the same time when he is home from work for good in the evening, He wants all the schooling to be over. Can you see my issue here? We have spoken together about this , but he says sometimes he just want to use his break to see his family and get his mind off of work. How am I to respond to that?:001_huh: I though maybe if I have our schedule mapped out differently than before maybe this will help. I want to make a big poster of it so everyone in the house knows to respect it . I will make allowances but this of course, but want to do it at my own choosing and for the best of the children's good. Theresa
  10. Has anyone use abeka daily lesson plans for English, ect. I would like to get one of the books just to take a look. I am curious about it and how it works . I know it has progress reports in them. Does, the english include vocabulary and literature information too? I hope to find a used copy somewhere to take a look at them. .
  11. I used to do all the plans and lessons myself now , things are getting busy, my two year old running all over, I would like a preset plan or to just see what others are doing. I just moved to this part of Ga not long ago, so haven't made a homeschool connection here yet. Before my husband had set hours, but now with the new job, his work schedule varies, and he pops in an out of home throughout the day. It makes me feel like I have to get homeschooling out of the way, and not schedule breaks ect. like before. I know we will start with math first as my son likes it and also likes to get it out of the way incase he gets stuck on something. In Georgia by law are required to do minimum 4/ 1/2 hours a day, can do more if need to but no less. I never had to use curriculum books and planners before but this time would like to. I am not looking for criticism of the curriculum I chose , as every child is different and this is what is suitable for us, but am trying to get an idea of how others schedule and plan their day. Here are our subjects. TT7 for math, Reading -abeka , Science SOS/Health Abeka History SOS Bible Abeka English-easy grammar plus / abeka spelling and Vocabulary PE/ Enrichment -Ymca if I can find one or a church homeschool group hopefully. We will try to at 8:00 am everymorning. So how do I break it all down into a set schedule and time for each subject. what help is outthere to get me started. I used do a college set split schedule-math and english everyday and divide the other subjects of between M-W-F -math bible science, english , history, , tues, thurs, math english, vocabulary reading , health , PE but times on subjects varied as I had the whole day to do things while husband was at work and also we had 2 cars before and now only have one so I can get out and with the children like I used to for extra curricula activities. If someone has an example of how they schedule things for their 6th, 7th or 8th grader let me know. pm me would be great or message board if nice things to say. I hate getting blasted publicly, as some do because they have a different take on things. Anyway, I figure plans and schedule subject times for this group would probably similiar.
