  2. Having already complete the "first grade" ETC series (1/2/3) what curriculum would you embark on next? FLL/WWE apples and pears HWOT She is NOT liking the writing portion of etc and also where there are sentences you choose from. She thinks she can't read them, but she can. She's going to be in a title one blue ribbon all sorts of awards public school. She'll be getting a very solid la program. I still have higher personal expectations, and would like to continue certain things at home, so we will be after schooling. The other programs we expect to complete this year are FLL/WWE, HWOT, Apples and Pears, but We're only going to be doing one thing at a time as my dd has ocd issues about finishing. It's my understanding that ETC is 1/2/3 1st, 4/5/6 2nd, 7/8 3rd grades, so I was wondering where to go with my first grader since we've finished the first grade etc. I don't want to delay fll/wwe or spelling/handwriting for long, so I was thinking of going into one of those subjects at a first grade level and then moving on to the second grade level. I have heard that it is best to start spelling after phonics is mastered, so should I continue the ETC series all the way before thinking about spelling? We're only going to be doing one thing at a time as my dd has ocd issues about finishing. So maybe we should do fll? do I have to do fll with wwe? Her school uses everday mathematics so I'll continue to supplement that with singapore. We also plan on continuing with the SOTW schedule for history/science at home. I'm wondering if I should move forward with the next ETC series or do FLL/WWE or apples and pears or HWOT for language arts. What do you think about this part?
  3. She's wanting to spend two or three hours doing one subject or another so we can "finish." I can't do that and cover everything so I was thinking at least for the summer we could alternate.
  4. Does anyone here (for K/1) alternate weeks of study? phonics/reading one week and math the next? What would be the downfall of this? My dd has really gotten into "finishing" workbooks/units.
  5. Ihad brain zaps. I started using biotin and they went away. I think the site the rec'd them was "the road back" or something. It's about nutritional support when weaning off meds.

  10. Bella likes to have a lot of different things to do, so on a lot of subjects, I'm doubling up on curriculum. It may seem overdone, but I'm hoping the options will help her not get bored. I think I need an extra science... any suggestions or other comments? CLE Reading CLE LA CLE Math CLE Science CLE SS ETC 1/2 or Phonics Rd Singapore 1a/1b SOTW Ancient Times HWOT My printing Book MCP Spelling Workout A WWE Level 1 FLL 1/2 HGTa "I can do all things" dvd set Pfeiffer 1st grade music Science?

  15. A little back story: DD is 6.5. She is technically kindergarten because of a late fall birthday. We were homeschooling until about 2 months ago. DH was out of town a lot and had the car. We (me, dd6 ds4 dd1) were basically hostage in our home for the winter, and I burnt out. DS was really missing his preschool friends, but for other reasons, we were not returning to that school. I called around, found a few schools with a mid year spot and went to tour. I fell in love with the kindergarten class room and teachers. They offered a spot for both kids, and we took it. So far, the experience has been ok. We'll be moving in the near future, and I'm pretty certain that if there is not an awesome sudbury school near by that we can afford, we'll be homeschooling again. To hear a 30 something year old woman argue with me about the chaos that will ensue if my dd writes her 4 like the one I just typed instead of an open square on the top like they teach in saxon just made me want to smack her. For the first half of her kindergarten year, we completed a mus primer, and ETC a/b/c as well as did a bunch of interest led science, health, history type stuff. If we end up hs'ing for 1st grade, I'm going to need something a little more structured. I was ideally hoping to find a "boxed" curriculum. I think I like the idea of oakmeadow and cle, but wanted to hear about others experiences (boxed aio or not). So, what did you do for first grade? DD is a very unique little girl, and likes to do crafts more than anything. Sh'es beginning to enjoy writing and is ok with workbook stuff a long as we do other things too.
  16. h3!! no!!! Oh my word. We all think we did it best, but I had all my brides maids pick their own dresses with the request that it be black. They all chose (separately) floor length, spaghetti strap black dresses and they each wore a shawl to cover their shoulders in church.
  17. Changes in routine really disrupt me too. Any changes. I'm weird like that though. If I were a kid today, I'd probably be "on the spectrum."
  18. I'd say you've frozen your metabolism by eating so little for so long. You may need to cut more carbs and add more protein.
